Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that remains prevalent in Indonesia and poses a risk to children's long-term quality of life. A mother's lack of knowledge about her child's nutritional needs is suspected to contribute to the incidence of stunting. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge of child nutrition and the incidence of stunting among toddlers at Posyandu Anggrek, Dusun Petunggulung, Watupatok Village, Bandar Sub-district, Pacitan Regency. This quantitative study employed a descriptive correlational design with a total of 20 respondents selected using total sampling. Data were collected through a knowledge questionnaire and measurements of children's Body Mass Index (BMI). The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most mothers had a moderate level of knowledge (80%), and 65% of toddlers were identified as stunted. The Chi-Square test yielded a p-value of 0.108, indicating no statistically significant relationship between maternal knowledge and stunting. Although the relationship was not statistically significant, the findings suggest that maternal nutritional knowledge remains an important factor to consider in stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

Underweight remains a nutritional problem commonly found among children under five and may be influenced by various factors, including dietary intake patterns and infectious diseases. This study aimed to determine the association between dietary intake patterns and infectious diseases with the incidence of Underweight among children under five in the working area of Martapura Barat Public Health Center, Banjar Regency. This study employed an analytic observational design with a case control approach. The sample consisted of 92 children under five, including 41 Underweight children and 51 non-Underweight children. Dietary intake data were collected using a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (Semi-FFQ), while infectious disease data were obtained through interviews using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most children had deficient energy and carbohydrate intake, excessive protein intake, and normal fat intake. Most children had also experienced infectious diseases. Statistical analysis revealed no significant association between energy intake (p=0.191), protein intake (p=0.454), fat intake (p=0.207), carbohydrate intake (p=0.552), or infectious diseases (p=0.381) and the incidence of Underweight among children under five. Health workers are encouraged to enhance nutrition education for parents regarding balanced nutrient intake and to conduct regular growth monitoring through integrated health service posts.

Abstract

Lower back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints experienced by third-trimester pregnant women due to physiological and biomechanical changes during pregnancy. This complaint can interfere with daily activities, sleep quality, and the mother’s comfort, thus requiring safe and effective nonpharmacological interventions. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Herbal Therapy Compress Ball on lower back pain in third-trimester pregnant women at the Akelamo Community Health Center. The study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 30 third-trimester pregnant women selected using total sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention and was then analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test with a 95% significance level. The results showed that before the intervention, most participants experienced moderate to severe pain, whereas after receiving the Herbal Therapy Compress Ball, all participants experienced a reduction in pain intensity to the “no pain” to “mild pain” categories. Statistical analysis revealed a significant effect of the Herbal Therapy Compress Ball on reducing lower back pain in third-trimester pregnant women (p=0.000). These findings indicate that the Herbal Therapy Compress Ball is an effective, safe, and easy-to-apply complementary therapy as a nonpharmacological approach to reducing lower back pain and improving maternal comfort during pregnancy.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common complaint among adolescent girls and can interfere with their academic performance, productivity, and quality of life. One nonpharmacological approach that can be used to reduce menstrual pain is the consumption of pineapple juice, which contains the enzyme bromelain with anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. This study aimed to analyze the effect of pineapple juice administration on menstrual pain among adolescent girls at the Kalumpang Ternate Community Health Center. The study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 adolescent girls selected using purposive sampling. Pain levels were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the administration of pineapple juice, then analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with a significance level of 5%. The results showed that before the intervention, most respondents experienced moderate pain (66.7%), whereas after the intervention, the majority experienced mild pain (66.7%), and no respondents experienced severe pain. The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant effect of pineapple juice administration on reducing the intensity of menstrual pain (p=0.000). It can be concluded that pineapple juice is effective as a complementary therapy based on local food in reducing menstrual pain in adolescent girls. The use of pineapple juice can be considered as part of reproductive health education and services for adolescents in schools and health care facilities.

Abstract

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants and plays a crucial role in improving the health status of both mothers and infants. However, the success of exclusive breastfeeding is still influenced by low maternal motivation to prepare for the breastfeeding process starting from pregnancy. Antenatal education is one strategy that can enhance mothers’ readiness and confidence to breastfeed optimally. This study aimed to analyze the effect of education on the importance of breast milk on the motivation of pregnant women in preparing for breastfeeding at the Siko Community Health Center. The study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 40 pregnant women selected using total sampling. Motivation data were collected via questionnaires administered before and after the educational session, then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Wilcoxon test at a 95% significance level. The results showed that prior to the intervention, the majority of respondents had “moderate” (47.5%) or “low” (35.0%) motivation levels. After receiving the education, the proportion with “good” motivation increased to 47.5%, while the proportion with “low” motivation decreased to 7.5%. Statistical analysis revealed a significant effect of education on the importance of breastfeeding on the motivation of pregnant women in preparing for breastfeeding (p=0.000), with a strong correlation (r=0.757). These findings indicate that antenatal education is effective in increasing mothers’ motivation to prepare for the breastfeeding process; therefore, it should be continuously integrated into antenatal care to support the success of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a health issue that contributes to an increased risk of complications for both the mother and the fetus. Efforts to prevent anemia are influenced by various factors, one of which is the level of knowledge among pregnant women regarding the causes, effects, and prevention methods. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge and efforts to prevent anemia among pregnant women at the Sulamadaha Community Health Center. The study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 35 pregnant women selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and documentation forms, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Spearman Rank test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a “sufficient” level of knowledge (42.9%) and engaged in “sufficient” anemia prevention efforts (45.7%). Bivariate analysis revealed no significant association between knowledge levels and anemia prevention efforts among pregnant women (p=0.654; r=0.133). These findings suggest that anemia prevention behaviors are influenced not only by knowledge but also by other factors such as adherence to iron supplement intake, dietary patterns, family support, and access to health care services. Therefore, anemia prevention efforts should be implemented through a comprehensive approach that integrates education, family support, and strengthened antenatal care to promote behavioral changes in pregnant women.
