Abstract

Hypertension is a condition where systolic blood pressure is 140 mmHg or higher, and diastolic blood pressure is 90 mmHg or higher. Generally, hypertension patients use captopril and Amlodipin as treatment of hypertension. It is necessary to take various efforts to improve the obedience of hypertensive patients during drug therapy. One theory studies that obedience behavior is the Health Belief Model. The HBM theory covers perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, and barrier, along with self-efficacy. To investigate factors affecting the obedience of hypertensive patients during the antihypertensive captopril and amlodipine medications treatment in the Puskesmas Pandanwangi, Malang, this study using the approach of HBM theory and instrument. Sampling was done through a purposive and accidental sampling method. The data analysis was done through multivariate analysis, which used multiple regression to determine the effecting factors based on the HBM theory on the obedience of hypertensive patients during the antihypertensive captopril and amlodipine medications therapy. Factors of HBM theory that affect the obedience of hypertensive patients are self-efficacy, perceived severity, and perceived barrier. Whereas, the unaffected factor are perceived suspectibility and perceived benefits. Overall, factors of HBM theory affect obedience.

Abstract

The study was carried out to investigate the presence of different phytochemicals as well as to determine the total phenolic and flavonoid contents of green pear/european pear peels and yellow pear/asian pear peels. Phytochemical screening of the pear peels was carried out following standard protocols. Total phenolic content was determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method and total flavonoid contents was determined by Aluminum Chloride Colorimetric method, measured using n-hexane, etil acetate, and methanol. Phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins are present in green pear and yellow pear peels. The total phenol and flavonoid contents are highest in methanol extracts in which green pear peels have a higher concentration than yellow pear peels. In conclusion, the green and yellow pear peels are rich in phenolic compounds and have great potential as natural antioxidants. Therefore, the results of this research should be considered to provide the possibility for future developments of highly functional antioxidants.

Abstract

Isolation, identification, and structure elucidation of terpenoid compounds from an n-hexane extract of Marsilea crenata Presl., had been done. The leaves of M. crenata was extracted using n-hexane solvent. The extract then separated with vacuum column chromatography and open column chromatography to obtain the isolate. Furthermore, the isolate was identified and elucidated using UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C- NMR, and 2D-NMR (COSY, HMQC, and HMBC). The identification and elucidation of the isolated structure from an n-hexane extract of M. crenata leaves indicate the isolate was a pentacyclic triterpenoid.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a progressive metabolic disease that continues to increase every year. Treatment therapy using oral hypoglycemic drugs to treat DM has side effects, and alternative approaches must be taken. Abelmoschus esculentus has been known to be used as an alternative to DM because it has antioxidant activity due to its high flavonoid content. The purpose of this study was to determine the antidiabetic activity of 96% ethanol extract of Okra leaves against male mice of balb-c strain. Male mice were acclimatized for seven days and divided into five test groups and then fasted for 18 hours. Then the mice were induced with 150 mg / 20 g BW alloxan and measured on the 3rd day. Ethanol extract 96% okra leaves were then given in a dose of 5.6 mg / 20g BW; 11.2 mg / 20g BW; 22.4 mg / 20g BW, CMC Na 0.5% as negative control and glibenclamide 0.026 mg / 20g BBs as positive control for 14 days. The results of therapy with 96% ethanol extract of okra leaves can reduce blood glucose levels in mice so that the okra leaves contain flavonoid compounds that have antioxidant activity and can reduce blood glucose levels.

Abstract

The transdermal route has several advantages over the oral route, especially for the drugs which significantly experience the first-pass effect in the liver. Another advantage of drug administration via the transdermal route is its non-invasive way and can be used by patients themselves. Also, it allows long-term use, thereby increasing patient compliance and is generally inexpensive. The development of transdermal preparation itself is not easy because of the permeability factor of drug ingredients through the skin is relatively low compared to the gastrointestinal route or mucous membrane because the skin is part of the body's defense system and prevents foreign materials to entering the body. The biggest challenge for drug administration via the transdermal route is that the limitations of drugs can be administrated through this route. NSAIDs are drugs that are widely used in chronic conditions and can cause serious gastrointestinal side effects. Therefore the transdermal route is expected to be a promising alternative in the future. The drug-loaded nanoparticle delivered using the iontophoresis method can improve the bioavailability of NSAIDs via the transdermal route.

Abstract

Indonesia gets good sun exposure every year. Sunlight is a major source of vitamin D., but studies show that tropical countries still have a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency. Geriatrics and obesity are some of the factors that can lead to vitamin D deficiency. Lack of information and knowledge about the effects of vitamin D deficiency, concerns about skin cancer from sunburn, and some current trends that want white skin cause them to limit sun exposure. Based on the high prevalence of geriatric and obesity data in Indonesia and the decline of functional status in geriatrics, which is a person's ability to perform daily physical activity, thus limiting himself to outdoor physical activities to expose the sun. Researchers conducted research to see the knowledge of sun exposure. This study was conducted to analyze vitamin D deficiency risk factors by the cross-sectional method to 88 obesity geriatrics and 88 non-obesity geriatrics based on knowledge of sun exposure. Test the risk factor aspects of knowledge using the odds ratio. The result of the odds ratio test of the knowledge aspect is 0.725, so it can be concluded that good knowledge of sun exposure has the same risk in both groups of respondents (obesity and non-obesity).

Abstract

Self-medication is an action treat by taking its own actions from assessing complaints and symptoms and drug selection. In doing self-medication, the community must have knowledge of the symptoms and drugs obtained from several sources, for example in television advertising. So this research’s goals is to determine the relationship of cough medicine advertisements on television to self-medication attitudes in Krajan Sae Hamlet, Beji Village, Junrejo Subdistrict, Batu City. This research is a descriptive study with  quantitative approach. Using instrument validated questionnaires. The sampling technique used is incidental sampling. The number of samples used refers to the Slovin’s formula with 97 respondents. To process this research the researcher use SPSS and Ms. Excel to get the correlation between cough medicine advertisements on television with public self-medication actions, influential indicators and linear regression results. The indicator that give influence of self-medication is indicator that is not misleading because it has the largest t count value of 2,360 with t table value 1,988 (df = 95). Regression  obtained by the results of simple linear regression equations namely Y = 7.618 + 0.303x. It means that, self-medication for cough medicines advertised on television will increase by 0.303 (b) units for each addition of one drug  unit. The results of the correlation study were analyzed using Ms. Excel obtained the results of r count 0.298 (N = 97, alpha = 0.05), with r table 0.195 (N = 100, alpha = 0.05). So that the value of r count > r table so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between cough medicine self-medication and television cough drug advertisement in Krajan Sae Hamlet, Beji Village, Junrejo Subdistrict, Batu City.

Abstract

Stigma is something that unacceptable or usually condescending and degrading. Stigma and discrimination cause inhibition of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in the community, thus impacting psychologically and decreasing the quality of life of PLWHA. To find out the relationship between self-stigma and the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), a study in the AIDS Concerned Residents (ACR) District of Turen. It uses a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The number of respondents is 22 PLWHA in Turen Concerned Residents (ACR), and methods of sampling in this study are using a purposive sampling technique. From 22 respondents, the result of self-stigma on PLWHA was low, with a percentage (54.5%) and the quality of life of PLWHA living in ACR Kec. Turn is excellent, with a percentage (54.5%). The results of statistical tests show that the value of p = 0.108 and the significance level of 0.05 also obtained p > 0.05, meaning that there is no significant relationship between self-stigma and the quality of life of PLWHA. This study shows that there is no significant relationship between self-stigma and the quality of life of PLWHA. With the existence of ACR, people and HIV-AIDS sufferers in Turen District have started to eliminate existing stigma and have a good quality of life.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease that causes joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. The knee is the most affected joint in osteoarthritis. A typical therapy that often used for osteoarthritis patients is NSAIDs, but a previous study showed that satisfactory pain control could not be achieved with NSAIDs alone, so that additional analgesic therapy is needed. Some previous studies showed the extracts of Curcuma longa and Boswellia serrata were promising in reducing pain and do not cause serious side effects in osteoarthritis patients. This research aims to measure the effect of additional therapy Curcuma longa and Boswellia serrata to NSAIDs on functional activities in knee osteoarthritis patients. The type of this research is cross-sectional, involving 71 patients. This study uses secondary data taken from previous RCT studies by completing questionnaires to determine the WOMAC score of osteoarthritis patients at Bethesda Hospital and Panti Rapih Hospital in Yogyakarta. Data were analyzed statistically using the licensed SPSS program with the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. The reduction of WOMAC scores was superior in the NSAIDs group with Curcuma longa and Boswellia serrata after being given therapy for four weeks but not significant (p = 0.372). The giving of additional therapy Curcuma Longa and Boswellia serrata to NSAIDs is not superior compared to NSAIDs in increasing functional activities in osteoarthritis patients.
