Abstract

This study was conducted to explore the creativity of English teachers in designing differentiated learning materials for senior high school students. The research was motivated by the fact that many teachers still rely on traditional methods, such as lectures, which are considered less effective in fostering students’ motivation and enthusiasm for learning. In reality, teachers are expected to be innovative in creating teaching materials that are engaging, aligned with students’ learning styles, and capable of improving their understanding of the subject matter. A descriptive qualitative method was employed in this research, utilizing interviews and documentation of teaching materials in the form of modules. The participants were two English teachers from SMAN 2 Makassar and SMAN 8 Makassar. The findings revealed that both teachers demonstrated creativity in designing differentiated learning materials by making use of Canva. Through this platform, they successfully addressed students’ varying levels of readiness and learning styles by producing visually appealing and interactive materials. In summary, the teachers involved in this study exhibited a high level of creativity in developing instructional materials. This was evident in their use of digital media during the preparation of content, as further supported by the documentation collected throughout the research.

Abstract

The study seeks to determine the effectiveness of extensive reading in increasing students' vocabulary at SMP Negeri 1 Pallangga. This research employs a pre-experimental approach utilizing a one-group pre-test and post-test design, using a vocabulary test. The participants of this study are eighth-grade students of the 2024/2025 academic year, specifically class VIII 5, consisting of 37 students selected through cluster sampling. The study employs the following instruments: a vocabulary test with four categories of questions: meaning,  word class, and word use, totaling 20 items. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test results indicate a Z value of -5.077 with a p-value (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is lower than α = 0.05. This leads to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H₀) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H₁). Thus, it can be concluded that extensive reading is effective in enhancing students' vocabulary at SMPN 1 Pallangga.

Abstract

This study aimed to discover EFL Students’ Perception of The Effectiveness of Blended Learning Environments in Higher Education. The researcher applied a descriptive qualitative method to achieve the research objective. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The subjects of the research were ten English Education Study Program students at the Faculty of Languages and Literature, Universitas Negeri Makassar. The subjects were chosen by using a random sampling technique. Based on the results of the study, the students perceived that the blended learning environment in higher education is still considered less effective in supporting their learning process. There are several reasons why they concluded that the blended learning environment is still less effective. Some of the reasons include a lack of classrooms, online learning websites that often crash, and inconsistent class scheduling. The findings imply that a variety of factors, such as teaching methodology, institutional support, and technological usability, influence students' opinions of blended learning. This study emphasizes the necessity for universities to guarantee dependable infrastructure and inclusive learning environments, as well as for instructors to enhance online involvement.

Abstract

Motivation plays a vital role in shaping students’ learning engagement and academic success in higher education. This study explores the factors influencing motivation among students in the English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM). Using Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and Achievement Goal Theory (AGT) as frameworks, a qualitative case study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with selected participants. The findings show that motivation is influenced by both intrinsic factors, such as personal interest and the desire for mastery, and extrinsic factors, including grades, recognition, and career aspirations. Peer support and lecturer teaching approaches also emerged as significant contributors to students’ motivation. These results highlight the need for educators to foster supportive learning environments that strengthen students’ motivation and engagement.

Abstract

This study is a type of correlational research that aims to determine the correlation between reading comprehension ability and students' English learning outcomes. The population in this study was all students of class VIII of SMPN 26 Makassar, with the number of samples of this study being 32 students. The data collection technique for this study was using tests and documentation as research instruments. The data analysis technique used in this study was descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Based on the data analysis, the results of the study were reading comprehension ability with a percentage of 62% in the good category and English learning outcomes with a percentage of 82% in the excellent category. The results of the inferential statistical analysis obtained r_count of 0.525 with a significance of 5% and r_table of 0.361, so that r_count (0.525) > r_table (0.361). Thus, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted; it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between reading comprehension ability and students' English learning outcomes.
