Abstract

The objectives of the research were to find out the main cause of Dissociative Identity Disorder of the main character in a movie called The Secret Window, the symptoms of Dissociative Identity Disorder of the main character, and the effects of Dissociative Identity Disorder on the main character. The data were taken from the main character in the Secret Window movie, characterization, dialogue, plot, and the movie itself. The method used by the researchers in this research was the descriptive qualitative method. The results of this research showed that: 1) the cause of the Dissociative Identity Disorder of the main character, Morton Rainey, was when he found his wife was cheating on him, 2) there were two symptoms that appeared in Morton Rainey’s disorder: heard voices and amnesia, 3) the effects of Dissociative Identity Disorder on Morton Rainey was he murdered his wife, Amy Morton and Amy’s affair, Ted Milner.

Abstract

This study aimed to discover the students’ motivations, students’ perceptions, and students’ strategies of the inclusion of Indonesian subtitles in English language movie as a tool for improving English vocabulary and to find out the challenges in the inclusion of Indonesian subtitles on English language movies in enhancing students' new vocabulary. This research uses a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach to describe the research subject. Data collection techniques using interview. The results of this study discover that student perceived that using Indonesian subtitles while watching English language movies emerges as a significant tool for enhancing students' English vocabulary. But some student also contends that, using Indonesian subtitles while watching English language movies as a tool for vocabulary enhancement presents challenges and limitation that impact its effectiveness as a vocabulary enhancement tool.

Abstract

This study investigates the emergence of pragmatic competence in early childhood through the analysis of speech acts performed by two children aged 2 years and 3 months (Child 1) and 2 years and 5 months (Child 2). Through the lens of Austin’s and Searle’s speech act theory, the qualitative study focuses on spontaneous utterances that are collected during natural interactions, such as play and daily routines. The findings reveal that even at a very young age, children are capable of performing various speech acts, including asserting, requesting, refusing, and expressing ownership which indicate their growing ability to use language intentionally and effectively. The analysis highlights the presence of locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts in the children’s speech, promoting the view that pragmatic competence begins to develop well before formal schooling. These results contribute to a deeper understanding of early language development and provide insight into the cognitive and communicative abilities of young children.

Abstract

This study explores the strategies employed by English language teachers in developing writing instructional materials within digitally enriched learning environments. Using a qualitative multiple case study design, six teachers from junior high, senior high, and vocational schools were observed and interviewed. Findings reveal that while all teachers perceive themselves as active material developers, their approaches vary based on their digital literacy, pedagogical beliefs, and access to technological infrastructure. A process-based writing approach is commonly applied, with digital tools such as Google Docs, Grammarly, Padlet, and Canva supporting different stages of instruction. Teachers selected tools based on usability, relevance to student needs, and contextual constraints. However, challenges such as limited preparation time, uneven student digital literacy, and lack of institutional support persist. The study affirms the relevance of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. It highlights the need for professional development that equips teachers with skills to design pedagogically meaningful digital writing tasks.

Abstract

Public speaking is a vital skill for students, particularly those majoring in English. However, many students still experience obstacles in terms of self-confidence and the courage to speak in public. This community service activity aims to improve public speaking skills through practice and feedback-based training. The training involved 25 students from various English study programs at Makassar State University with an experiential learning approach that included theory sessions, impromptu speech practice, and reflection. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in three main aspects: awareness of the importance of speaking skills, increased self-confidence, and courage to appear in public speaking. As many as 90% of participants stated that this training helped them be more prepared to speak in public. This activity shows that the practice and feedback approach is effective in building students' soft communication skills and is worthy of being integrated into self-development programs in higher education.

Abstract

Abstrak – Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat Kecamatan Pattallasang, Kabupaten Takalar, dalam memanfaatkan bahan alam sebagai obat tradisional. Potensi tanaman obat di wilayah ini cukup melimpah, namun pemanfaatannya masih terbatas dan belum berbasis pengetahuan ilmiah. Program dilaksanakan melalui sosialisasi, pelatihan berbasis ceramah–diskusi–demonstrasi, dan pendampingan praktik pengolahan tanaman obat. Selain itu, digunakan media digital berupa video tutorial dan forum diskusi daring untuk pembelajaran berkelanjutan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam identifikasi dan pengolahan tanaman obat lokal secara aman dan higienis. Evaluasi menunjukkan masyarakat mulai mempraktikkan pengolahan herbal di rumah dan berminat mengembangkan usaha berbasis herbal. Program ini berkontribusi dalam pemberdayaan masyarakat serta mendukung kemandirian kesehatan berbasis potensi lokal.Kata kunci: pengabdian masyarakat, tanaman obat, obat tradisional, Pattallasang, edukasi herbal

Abstract

This study aims to identify and determine the transactional communication model using Shockley-Zalabak’s Organizational Communication Process Model used by the employees in delivering transactional utterances in workplace management. The research method was qualitative with a descriptive design. The subjects of this study are employees in the academic and broadcasting workplaces. Data on the transactional communication model were collected through transcripts of observations accompanied by audio recordings. The findings of the study reveal that communication within organizational settings is fundamentally transactional, interactive, and context-dependent. Across all extracts, communication emerges not as a simple transmission of information but as a co-created process shaped by hierarchical roles, organizational procedures, feedback loops, and interpersonal dynamics.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesiapan akademik mahasiswa baru melalui program capacity building yang berfokus pada strategi belajar efektif dan pemahaman kode etik penggunaan kecerdasan buatan (AI) di perguruan tinggi. Fenomena meningkatnya penggunaan AI dalam konteks akademik menuntut mahasiswa untuk memiliki literasi digital yang disertai kesadaran etis agar tidak terjadi penyalahgunaan teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Sastra, Universitas Negeri Makassar dengan peserta sebanyak 78 mahasiswa baru angkatan 2025. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi pre-test dan post-tes, penyampaian materi interaktif, simulasi strategi belajar aktif, diskusi kasus etika AI, dan refleksi kelompok. Materi kegiatan mencakup manajemen waktu belajar, teknik membaca dan mencatat efektif, strategi menghadapi ujian, serta prinsip etis penggunaan alat bantu berbasis AI seperti chatGPT dan Grammarly. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap strategi belajar mandiri dan kesadaran etis dalam menggunakan AI, yang tercermin dari peningkatan skor rata-rata dari 61,5 pada pre-test menjadi 87,1 pada post-test. Selain itu, peserta menunjukkan perubahan sikap positif terhadap pembelajaran mandiri dan tanggung jawab akademik. Dengan demikian, kegiatan capacity building ini berhasil memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam membangun budaya belajar yang produktif dan etis di lingkungan perguruan tinggi.

Abstract

: Guru memiliki peran penting dalam menciptakan pembelajaran yang efektif, namun banyak di antara mereka menghadapi tekanan emosional dan kesulitan dalam mengelola dinamika kelas. Kondisi ini berdampak pada kesejahteraan guru dan suasana belajar siswa. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan untuk memperkuat kapasitas guru Kimia tingkat SMP, SMA, dan SMK di Kabupaten Takalar dalam mengelola keseimbangan emosional dan menciptakan dinamika kelas yang inklusif melalui pelatihan berbasis komunitas guru. Tujuan utama kegiatan adalah membangun kemampuan guru dalam mengelola emosi, meningkatkan empati, dan memperkuat kolaborasi profesional antarpendidik. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 1 Takalar pada tanggal 21 Juni 2025 dan diikuti oleh 25 guru Kimia yang dibagi ke dalam tiga kelompok komunitas. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi empat tahapan, yaitu persiapan kebutuhan pelatihan, pelaksanaan pelatihan interaktif, pendampingan reflektif berbasis komunitas, dan evaluasi hasil melalui pre-test, post-test, serta observasi praktik lapangan.Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan pada aspek pemahaman guru mengenai pengelolaan emosi (dari 56% menjadi 91%), penerapan strategi dinamika kelas inklusif (dari 61% menjadi 88%), dan keterampilan refleksi sejawat dalam komunitas (dari 48% menjadi 85%). Setiap kelompok komunitas menunjukkan kemajuan dalam kolaborasi profesional dan saling dukung secara emosional. Guru memperoleh manfaat nyata berupa peningkatan kesejahteraan psikologis, kemampuan reflektif, dan motivasi untuk melanjutkan praktik komunitas secara mandiri di lingkungan MGMP Kimia.Kegiatan ini menghasilkan model pengembangan profesional guru berbasis komunitas yang menekankan keseimbangan emosional dan kerja kolaboratif. Pendekatan ini menjadi kontribusi baru dalam pemberdayaan guru melalui keterlibatan langsung masyarakat pendidikan dalam pembelajaran sejawat yang berkelanjutan.
