Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at the elementary school level plays a strategic role in shaping students’ moderate character and tolerance toward diversity. This study aims to describe the efforts of IRE teachers in fostering religious moderation and tolerance among students at SDN Cluring, Kalitengah Subdistrict, Lamongan Regency. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that IRE teachers implemented various strategies such as exemplary behavior, integration of tolerance values into lesson content, open class discussions, and habituation through routine school activities. These strategies proved effective in cultivating mutual respect and acceptance of differences among students. The results highlight the importance of strengthening the role of IRE teachers in building character education based on moderate Islamic values from an early age.

Abstract

Digitalization has brought a significant impact on education, particularly in shaping the character of elementary school students. Islamic Education (PAI) teachers face moral challenges arising from the uncontrolled use of digital media. This study aims to explore the strategies employed by PAI teachers at SDN PasirBaru in fostering students’ character amid the wave of digitalization. The research applies a literature review method with thematic analysis of relevant national and international studies published between 2014 and 2024. The findings reveal that several effective strategies can be implemented, namely: (1) integrating Islamic values into students’ digital lives, (2) utilizing appropriate character-based learning media, (3) teachers’ role modeling as behavioral exemplars, and (4) close collaboration with parents in monitoring technology use. These strategies are proven relevant in addressing moral challenges in the digital era, particularly in preventing value degradation and deviant behavior among elementary students. The implications of this study highlight the urgency of strengthening digital literacy among PAI teachers, developing contextual Islamic character education models, and fostering collaborative support between schools, families, and policymakers. Thus, this research provides both theoretical contributions to enrich the discourse on character education in the digital era and practical guidance for teachers and schools in shaping religious and virtuous young generations.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the concept of character education in Ta’lim al-Muta’allim by Sheikh Az-Zarnuji and its relevance to strengthening the Profil Pelajar Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin (PPRA). The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis techniques, focusing on an in-depth examination of Sheikh Az-Zarnuji’s narrative on character education in Ta’lim al-Muta’allim. The findings indicate the presence of thirteen core character education concepts presented in the book. These concepts hold significant urgency in an era marked by rapid change and complex moral challenges, where moral degradation poses a serious threat to character formation. The internalization of such character education serves as a moral stronghold, capable of reinforcing character development and fostering a generation that is not only intellectually intelligent but also creative and spiritually resilient. This study emphasizes that the revitalization of character education in Ta’lim al-Muta’allim is highly relevant as a strategy for character formation grounded in moral and spiritual values, resilience, and integrity. It is expected that these findings can serve as a practical reference for strengthening character education.

Abstract

The Islamic Education (PAI) teachers play a crucial role in fostering students’ spiritual intelligence at SMP Negeri 1 Tikung, which helps them understand the meaning of life, distinguish between right and wrong, and develop positive behaviors. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, focusing primarily on PAI teachers as the main subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with sources including teachers, the school principal, students, as well as references from books and journals. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study revealed several key findings: (1) supporting factors for the teachers’ roles include collaboration with the principal and fellow teachers, as well as support from regulations and the school’s vision and mission. Conversely, inhibiting factors consist of low parental awareness and limited school programs focused on developing students’ spiritual intelligence; (2) students’ spiritual intelligence is relatively high in terms of socializing and adapting, yet remains low in self-awareness and in formulating personal vision and mission; (3) PAI teachers perform various functions, including as instructors, class leaders, mentors, classroom managers, motivators, and evaluators. However, students’ awareness in applying the learning to daily life still requires improvement. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
