Abstract

This research aims to examine the evolving dynamics of language ethics among Generation Z, focusing on their communication behaviors on the "X" platform. Through a combination of case studies and discursive analysis, the study investigates emerging trends such as the increasing preference for informal expressions, the heightened use of abbreviations and emojis, and the shift toward a more expressive and casual digital communication style. Furthermore, the research delves into the broader implications of these linguistic trends, including their impact on social interactions, the shaping of public opinion, and the potential for misunderstandings in digital conversations. By exploring these phenomena, the study seeks to shed light on the underlying principles of digital communication among youth and how these behaviors influence their social lives, cultural norms, and the broader societal discourse. Ultimately, the findings aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the interplay between digital language practices and the evolving nature of human connectivity in a digitally mediated world.

Abstract

This paper examines the impact of media representation on public perception and legal outcomes in the high-profile criminal case of Jessica Wongso, who was accused of murdering her friend, Wayan Mirna Salihin. It explores how gendered stereotypes and societal expectations shaped both the media's portrayal of Wongso and the public's perception of her guilt. Traditional media coverage sensationalized her femininity and emotional responses, reinforcing negative stereotypes about women in criminal cases. However, the 2023 documentary Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee, and Jessica Wongso offered a more nuanced perspective, challenging these portrayals and questioning the fairness of the legal proceedings. Through a feminist lens and Émile Durkheim's Mass Society Theory, the paper highlights the intersection of gender, media influence, and legal systems, urging for a more critical and equitable approach to both media coverage and legal treatment of women accused of crimes. It calls for a reassessment of how gender and media shape justice.

Abstract

The poem Kepada Kawan by Chairil Anwar is a work rich in emotion, philosophical depth, and life values, making it a timeless piece in Indonesian literature. In this poem, Chairil Anwar masterfully explores universal themes such as courage, friendship, and death, presenting them through powerful and evocative language. The poem does more than convey feelings; it invites readers into the intimate space of the poet's inner world, where existential struggles and profound reflections intertwine. This study employs an expressive approach to analyze how Chairil Anwar's emotions, thoughts, and personal experiences shape the poem, revealing the depths of his personality and worldview. The analysis delves into the connection between the poet’s emotions and his language style, uncovering how his choice of words and imagery conveys defiance against fear and regret. It also reflects the poet's existential perspective, emphasizing resilience in the face of mortality and the transient nature of life. This defiance is not merely a literary device but a reflection of Chairil's inner conflict and his pursuit of meaning and authenticity in life. The study thus offers a richer understanding of Kepada Kawan as not only a poetic masterpiece but also a window into Chairil Anwar's soul, capturing his rejection of despair and his celebration of life’s courage amidst its inevitabilities.

Abstract

This research analyzes the lyrics of the song "Kisah Seudeh Gempa di Pidie Jaya" by Joel Keudah using a mimetic approach. This approach views literary works as dynamic representations of reality, reflecting the close relationship between works of art and real life. This song describes the tragic event of the earthquake that hit Pidie Jaya, Aceh, in 2016. Through its lyrics, this song voices the collective experience of the Acehnese people, including suffering, loss, resilience, solidarity and hope to rise again. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, with mimetic analysis steps, such as understanding, marking and evaluating the lyrics to reveal the social and emotional values contained therein. Analysis by verse shows that this song reflects the physical, psychological, social and spiritual realities of the affected communities. The first stanza describes the chronology of the earthquake events in detail, while the second stanza expresses the emotional trauma and religiosity of the community. The third stanza highlights the physical destruction caused by the disaster, and the fourth stanza reveals the social impact in the form of the destruction of places of worship and the separation of families. The fifth and sixth stanzas convey a moral message, motivation to rise up, and spiritual introspection. The research results show that this song is not only a documentation of historical events, but also functions as a medium for cultural reflection, solidarity and empathy towards disaster victims. This song successfully describes the dynamic relationship between art, reality and human experience.

Abstract

The song is a part of musical art that combines lyrical texts with melody and rhythm. Song lyrics are expressions of thoughts and feelings, crafted into messages or meanings the musician intends to convey. One song that holds deep meaning is "Bulan Dikekang Malam" (The Moon Bound by Night), performed by Rossa. This song highlights the theme of love hindered by circumstances, delivered through poetic symbolism of the moon and night. This study aims to explore the meaning embedded in the lyrics of "Bulan Dikekang Malam" using an objective approach. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. Qualitative descriptive research involves data collection techniques utilizing library studies to provide a comprehensive description of the findings (Cahya et al., 2021). The qualitative method is employed because the data aligns with actual circumstances, consisting of text that is then analyzed and interpreted objectively. After the analysis, the findings are articulated in written words and language. The steps involved include selecting the song, analyzing the lyrics, dividing the lyrics into stanzas, interpreting the lyrics using the objective approach theory, identifying signifiers and signified, and describing the findings in writing according to the data analysis results. The study reveals that the lyrics of "Bulan Dikekang Malam" convey a universal message about the struggle of love that cannot be fulfilled due to limitations. The moon symbolizes hope or love, while the night represents obstacles or restrictive situations. Through the objective approach, this meaning is thoroughly uncovered without being influenced by external contexts. This research demonstrates how the song blends lyrical aesthetics with musical harmony to create a profound emotional experience for its listeners.
