Abstract

Citation metrics have become pivotal in evaluating academic research and influencing funding, promotions, and institutional prestige. However, the increasing emphasis on these metrics has given rise to unethical practices, notably citation cartels, which artificially inflate citation counts through collusive agreements among researchers or journals. This study investigates the prevalence and impact of citation cartels by analysing citation patterns in recent papers. Using a systematic approach, we examined citation data across five papers to identify patterns of collusion and the extent of citation inflation. The results reveal that Author 1 was cited in every reference across four out of five papers, either as a sole author or co-author, with a direct or indirect responsibility for 100% of the citations. Similarly, Authors 2 and 3 demonstrated substantial influence, with median citation shares of 36% and 35%, respectively. These findings highlight the significant role of key authors in shaping citation distributions and raise concerns about the integrity of citation metrics. The study concludes with recommendations for addressing citation cartels, including implementing detection systems, enhanced peer review processes, and a more balanced approach to evaluating research impact.

Abstract

Retail trade is a very strategic trade in Indonesia because it is able to absorb labor after the agricultural sector. There are two types of retail trade, namely traditional retail which is directly represented by small traders or grocery traders in traditional markets and in housing and modern retail which is represented by supermarkets and minimarkets such as Alfamart and Indomaret. This proves that there is quite high economic growth and creates investment, but on the other hand, this can cause lethargy for traditional kiosk traders, even killing their businesses. Yuki Mart is one of the modern shops (minimarkets) in Gunungsitoli City. This research aims to find out how much influence consumer behavior has on purchasing decisions at Yuki Mart, Gunungsitoli City. This research uses quantitative methods. Respondents were 57 consumers who shopped at Yuki Mart, Gunungsitoli City in July, where researchers collected data using a questionnaire, then carried out data validity tests, data reliability tests, classical assumption tests (normality tests), coefficient of determination, and hypothesis tests (t tests). The results of the research show that the influence of consumer behavior on purchasing decisions at Yuki Mart, Gunungsitoli City, is 16.3% and the other 83.7% is influenced by other variables not included in this research.

Abstract

Based on the observations, it was found that a significant number of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Alasa demonstrate low academic achievement, as evidenced by their test scores not meeting the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM). Additionally, many students in this grade frequently fail to complete homework and exhibit a lack of motivation during the learning process. This study aims to analyze the influence of Character building and parental economic conditions on the academic performance of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Alasa in 2024. The research employed a quantitative methodology. The findings indicate that Character building, in isolation, has a significant impact on the academic performance of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Alasa, with a t-value of 2.231, which exceeds the critical t-value of 1.673. On the other hand, parental economic conditions do not have a significant effect on students' academic achievement when considered independently. This is evidenced by a t-value of -0.084, which is below the critical t-value of 1.673. Thus, students can achieve academic success regardless of their parents' lower economic status, and wealthier parents do not necessarily guarantee improved academic performance in their children.
