ThThe community service program through the Student Community Service (KKN) in Luwuk Bunter Village, Cempaga District, East Kotawaringin Regency, focused on enhancing religious values among children. Abstract

Terawan is a village located in Seruyan Raya District, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Terawan Village is renowned for its abundant natural resources, particularly palm oil plantations and a variety of dried fish, which are marketed locally and for export. Therefore, the local population relies primarily on palm oil company employees and fishermen for their livelihoods. Banana plants are also widely cultivated by the local community. However, only the fruit and leaves are used, resulting in underutilization as the banana stems are often discarded. Banana stems can be utilized with a little innovation to create products with high economic value. It is hoped that this training will equip the community with skills in enhancing the benefits of banana plants, fostering entrepreneurial interest and generating creative business ideas that can be used as alternative livelihoods. The training methods used in this training include lectures, discussions, and live demonstrations on how to process banana stem chips, followed by a question and answer session. This training is aimed at women in the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) in Terawan Village. The activity, held on August 30, 2023, achieved significant results, including improving the skills and understanding of women on how to process banana stem waste into economically valuable banana stem chips. The activity went well and met expectations, thanks to strong cooperation and the high level of enthusiasm shown by the 23 participants.

Abstract

The ability to write scientific papers is essential for students, especially those in pesantren. However, challenges such as a lack of understanding of academic standards, finding credible references, and managing citations are still major obstacles. Therefore, Pondok Pesantren Griya Santri Mahabbah conducted training on using Mendeley and Publish or Perish applications to improve the quality of students' scientific work. This activity aims to strengthen technical competence in scientific writing while instilling a culture of literacy based on pesantren values. The training was held on 11 November 2024, with a ‘Participant Active Learning’ approach that involved the active participation of participants. The training stages included application installation, function introduction, and hands-on practice of using both applications. Mendeley is used for reference and citation management, while Publish or Perish helps search scientific literature efficiently. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of the use of both applications. Students were better able to search for credible references and manage citations systematically, supporting faster and more structured completion of scientific papers. In addition, this training increases the opportunity for students to publish their work in national and international online journals. With the high enthusiasm of the participants, this activity is expected to encourage the development of scientific writing skills sustainably and support Santri to become a superior intellectual at the global level.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve understanding of Muslim-friendly tourism village management in Indonesia through socialization and education. Muslim-friendly tourism villages have great potential in the halal tourism industry but still face challenges, such as limited understanding of halal standards, lack of supporting facilities, and lack of digital-based marketing strategies. To overcome these problems, this program adopts socialization, education, and mentoring methods involving local stakeholders. Socialization is conducted through interactive discussions and seminars, while education includes technical training for tourism actors related to halal service management and digital marketing. The program evaluation showed a significant increase in community understanding of halal tourism, readiness for Muslim-friendly accommodation, and the number of businesses applying for halal certification. The program contributes to strengthening the capacity of tourism village managers to provide Sharia-based services and increase attractiveness for Muslim tourists. Continuous assistance is needed to ensure the sustainability of the implementation of the halal tourism concept in various tourism villages in Indonesia.
