Abstract

The rapid expansion of the global tourism industry has significantly contributed to Bali’s economic growth, while simultaneously generating complex legal, ecological, and socio-cultural challenges. Tourism-driven development often neglects environmental sustainability, marginalizes indigenous communities, and deepens structural inequality in labor and land control. This article aims to examine how the reformulation of progressive legal theory can balance global economic interests with ecological protection and local cultural preservation in Bali, and to develop a sustainable tourism governance model through the integration of state law, Balinese customary law, and international legal norms. This research employs a normative juridical approach, supported by philosophical and sociological legal analysis. The findings indicate that the prevailing procedural and centralistic legal paradigm fails to adequately address Bali’s socio-cultural realities. Progressive legal theory provides a transformative framework by positioning human values, substantive justice, and local wisdom at the core of legal development and enforcement. Furthermore, the concept of legal pluralism becomes a crucial foundation for building inclusive and sustainable tourism governance. Case studies from Penglipuran Village and Junjungan Traditional Village demonstrate that effective integration of state law, customary law, and international principles can produce community-based tourism models that are equitable, environmentally responsible, and culturally resilient. The study concludes that the sustainability of Bali’s tourism sector can only be achieved through legal reform that strengthens indigenous participation, recognizes customary law as a substantive source of regulation, and fosters continuous dialogue among diverse legal systems within a collaborative and justice-oriented governance framework.

Abstract

Korean television dramas have become one of the most popular forms of popular culture enjoyed by audiences. A number of previous studies have examined mass media exposure to Korean television dramas, hyperreality in films and dramas, and the effects of such media texts on audiences, often positioning viewers as passive subjects who experience relatively uniform impacts. This article argues that audiences are not passive social actors but active ones, therefore, the hyperreality offered by Korean television dramas does not produce identical effects for every viewer. This study employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with viewers of Korean television dramas in the romance, drama, and comedy genres, supported by a review of relevant literature. The findings indicate that Korean television dramas consistently present narratives of romanticism, however, the processes of interpretation and reception vary among viewers. Some audiences develop new values and perspectives, particularly regarding romance, partnerships, friendships, and family, while others position these dramas merely as entertainment without influencing their everyday lives. These findings affirm that hyperreality in popular culture does not operate in a deterministic manner but is mediated by viewers’ experiences, preferences, and social backgrounds.

Abstract

Street children are a marginalized population group with high morbidity rates but very low access to healthcare. Although they are vulnerable to malnutrition and skin infections, the majority of street children exhibit poor health-seeking behavior, tending to rest at home rather than seek professional medical help. The purpose of this systematic literature review is to analyze structural barriers in the form of population administration on the treatment-seeking behavior of street children through the perspective of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review method. The literature identification process was conducted through academic databases covering the period 2016–2025 using Publish or Perish software. Article selection was carried out using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses protocol, resulting in 18 selected journals for synthesis. The findings show that the absence of identity documents such as a Population Registration Number/Family Card is a major obstacle in accessing BPJS Health and public facilities. Theoretically, the failure to fulfill the need for security in population administration at the second level of Maslow's Hierarchy results in the obstruction of fulfilling physiological needs in the form of medical treatment at the first level. This is exacerbated by psychosocial factors such as trust issues towards health authorities. In conclusion, there is a significant influence between population administration barriers and poor treatment behavior among street children.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) within branded thrifting practices among students at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Thrifting, which was initially driven by the need to find affordable secondhand clothing, has now developed into a consumption pattern strongly shaped by social media. This research aims to explore students’ experiences, motivations, and the meanings they construct when engaging in branded thrifting using a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations of social media content, and documentation related to thrifting activities. Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of social practice is used to understand how habitus, capital, and field influence these practices. The findings show that social media plays a significant role in encouraging students’ interest in branded thrifting through review content, fashion hauls, shop recommendations, and live shopping sessions. Continuous exposure to these trends creates a sense of urgency for some students to keep up with certain styles so as not to feel left behind by their peers. This condition fosters FOMO, which later shapes students’ decisions when selecting and purchasing branded thrift items. Ultimately, branded thrifting becomes not only an economical choice but also a medium for self-expression, identity formation, and maintaining social presence both on campus and in digital spaces.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the forms of tattoo preservation and the factors supporting tattoo preservation among the Dayak Iban sub-tribe in Batu Lintang Village, Embaloh Hulu District, Kapuas Hulu Regency. This is a qualitative study with a descriptive ethnographic approach using qualitative data collection techniques. The data analysis theory refers to Max Weber's views on social actions, which include: instrumental rational actions, value-rational actions, affective actions, and traditional actions. The results of the study show that the process of preserving Dayak Iban tattoos is carried out through four forms of social action: instrumental rational actions, value-rational actions, affective actions, and traditional actions. Tattoos, known locally as pantang, are an important part of the cultural identity of the Dayak Iban tribe and contain spiritual, social, and historical values that have been passed down from generation to generation. The community maintains the use of motifs typical of Dayak Iban tattoos, such as eggplant flowers, andu fruit, engkabang, and tumpa lengan, which represent a spiritual connection with nature. This preservation is supported by individual awareness, understanding of cultural values, and community support, which is manifested in traditional education, cultural festivals, and the use of social media and technology. Tattoos can be seen not only as an expression of art, but also as an intangible cultural heritage with deep meaning and value that is worth preserving and passing on

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the religious values and social solidarity embedded in the Tehununa tradition practiced by the community of Negeri Luhu, West Seram Regency, Maluku. Tehununa is a cultural tradition performed on the 27th night of Ramadan and plays an important role in the social and religious life of the local community. This research employs a qualitative approach using an ethnographic method to understand the meanings and practices of the tradition within the community’s cultural context. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants were selected using purposive sampling, focusing on individuals who possess knowledge and direct involvement in the implementation of the Tehununa tradition. The collected data were analyzed using the interactive data analysis model developed by Matthew B. Miles and A. Michael Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Tehununa tradition embodies several religious values, including gratitude to God, spiritual values related to the momentum of Ramadan, values of sharing and charity, and values of togetherness within the community. Furthermore, the tradition also reflects social solidarity that tends toward mechanical solidarity as proposed by Émile Durkheim, characterized by shared beliefs, collective participation, and strong communal ties among members of the community.

Abstract

The phenomenon of beauty standards on TikTok, such as fair skin, smooth faces, and ideal bodies, cannot be separated from the role of algorithms that continuously display content with certain beauty images. This study aims to describe how Sociology Education students at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, class of 2023, assess these beauty standards and how they respond to them whether by accepting, rejecting, or criticizing them from a sociological perspective. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with five students, supplemented by observation and documentation. The results show that most students view beauty standards on TikTok as a social construct that is not entirely realistic and tends to be shaped by digital media. The students' responses to this phenomenon also varied, ranging from selective acceptance, rejection of the pressure of beauty standards, to being critical in shaping their identity. This phenomenon can be understood through Berger and Luckmann's social construction theory, which explains the processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization in the formation of social meaning.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high level of diversity in terms of ethnicity, culture, religion, and language, which necessitates the strengthening of Pancasila values to maintain harmony and unity. However, in the era of globalization and digitalization, the internalization of Pancasila values still faces various challenges, including within religious institutions. This study aims to analyze the role of the Pentecostal Church in Indonesia (GPdI) El-Shaddai Purbolinggo, East Lampung, in strengthening Pancasila values within a pluralistic society. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation. The theoretical framework is based on structural functionalism, social construction, and role theory, which position the church as an agent of socialization and value transformation within society. The findings reveal that GPdI El-Shaddai Purbolinggo plays an active role as a social transformation agent by integrating Pancasila values into worship activities, sermons, faith education, and social services. The process of internalizing these values is carried out not only cognitively but also through social practices, interactions, and the exemplary conduct of church leaders in the daily lives of congregants. Sociologically, these findings indicate that the church makes a significant contribution to strengthening social cohesion, solidarity, and tolerance within a pluralistic society. The implications of this study emphasize that reinforcing Pancasila values is not solely the responsibility of the state but also requires the active involvement of religious institutions as strategic actors in fostering social integration and sustaining national unity.

Abstract

This study aims to understand healing culture as a lifestyle among Gen Z, particularly students at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with seven informants, this study analyzes the meaning of healing, its driving factors, and its impact on the daily lives of Gen Z. The results show that healing is interpreted as an effort to calm oneself from academic and social pressures through simple activities such as resting, watching, and traveling. Social media also shapes how Gen Z practices healing, shifting it into a lifestyle trend. The culture of healing has a positive impact in the form of increased psychological comfort and reduced stress, but it also has negative effects such as consumptive behavior, procrastination, and the tendency to use healing as an escape. This study confirms that healing not only functions as mental recovery, but also as an expression of the identity of the younger generation in the digital age. Furthermore, the findings indicate that the practice of healing among Gen Z cannot be separated from the influence of digital culture and social interaction in online spaces. The representation of healing activities on social media platforms also contributes to shaping new social norms and expectations regarding how young people manage stress and express their well-being. Therefore, understanding healing culture is important to see how lifestyle, media influence, and psychological needs intersect in shaping the daily experiences of Gen Z.

Abstract

Educational migration, where by students leave their home regions to pursue higher education, is a phenomenon of social mobility that involves not only geographical displacement but also social and cultural change. Migrant students often face a heterogeneous social environment with values, norms, and communication patterns that differ from those in their hometowns. This condition requires migrant students to undergo a process of cultural identity negotiation to interact and adapt. This study aims to understand how migrant students negotiate their identities and strategies in the face of a new social and cultural environment. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through narrative questionnaires distributed online to respondents who meet the research criteria. The data obtained are analyzed descriptively and inductively by identifying similarities and differences in the respondents' experiences, then interpreting the patterns that emerge. The results of the study show that migrant students still carry their original cultural identity, which is reflected in their use of language, values of politeness, and patterns of interaction. Even so, migrant students still need to make adjustments, especially in the way they communicate, such as their choice of words, speech accents, and interaction styles. The adaptation strategies employed by migrant students include active involvement in organizations, building social relationships with peers, and maintaining support from family and religious values. This process then results in a more flexible and contextual form of identity in the form of a hybrid identity, a combination of the original cultural identity and the identity developed through interaction.
