Abstract

This study evaluates the application of Lean Manufacturing principles using the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) methodology to systematically identify and eliminate waste in the production operations of the breeding animal feed division of PT XYZ. This issue is crucial because the high demand for feed products, especially in the breeder division of PT XYZ, requires the company to make continuous process improvements. This study aims to evaluate the application of Lean Manufacturing principles using the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Value Stream Analysis Tools (VALSAT) approaches to identify and eliminate waste in the livestock feed production line. Primary data collection included direct observation studies, structured questionnaires, and in-depth interviews with operators, supplemented by secondary data obtained through a systematic literature review. The application of Value Stream Analysis Tools (VALSAT) revealed that process inefficiencies mostly stemmed from waiting time, product defects, and excessive production output. The VSM analysis of the current condition showed a value-added ratio of 69.05%, with the mapping of the future condition after intervention showing an increase to 70.49%. [Deleted]. This study produced actionable operational recommendations, enabling PT XYZ to align its production system with contemporary industry benchmarks for optimal performance.

Abstract

The rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) has accelerated the adoption of blended learning in higher education, combining traditional classroom instruction with online participation. To support this approach, universities require hybrid classroom systems that allow synchronous interaction between on-site and remote students. This study presents the design and implementation of a hybrid classroom in Room A101 using affordable and easily accessible devices. The system was built with a webcam connected to a mini PC and monitor, a wireless clip-on microphone integrated with the lecturer’s laptop, a projector supported by an HDMI switcher, and a stable internet connection. Implementation followed five stages: needs analysis, system design, installation, workflow, and evaluation. Technical testing covered video, audio, speaker performance, and internet stability, while user surveys captured perceptions of effectiveness. Results showed the system delivered acceptable 720p video, clear audio, and stable connectivity. Survey feedback indicated satisfaction levels of 82% for video, 88% for audio, 75% for speaker performance, and 84% overall. These findings confirm that low-cost hybrid classroom solutions can enhance flexibility, inclusivity, and accessibility in higher education, while remaining practical and replicable in similar institutional contexts.

Abstract

Management of raw material supplies at the Kopi Merapi Babadan is still carried out conventionally. The purchase of raw materials made by the Kopi Merapi Babadan did not have a plan and was based on estimates only. This often causes a mismatch in the existing raw material inventory with the number of raw materials to be processed in the production process, causing the costs incurred to purchase raw materials inappropriately. The EOQ method is a method that is often used in supply chain concepts. Applying the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method can provide an estimate of the raw material requirements that will be used in the production process to balance the expenditure of raw materials and the products produced. This research aims to control the supply of coffee beans using the EOQ method. The data collected is in the form of data on the amount of raw materials needed, the number of orders for raw materials, ordering costs, and storage costs. The savings that the Company can make by implementing EOQ for optimal orders are IDR 550.000,- or 31,34%. The company saves IDR 294,020 (24.50%) by coordinating with suppliers compared to using EOQ without coordination. The company can save 48.23% or IDR 844,020 if it uses EOQ with supplier coordination, compared to the company's actual conditions.

Abstract

The design of a cassava slicing machine using the Pahl & Beitz method serves as a solution to improve production capacity and work efficiency in a cassava chips MSME located in Wonosobo, Central Java. The manual cassava slicing process often requires a long time, increases the risk of injury, and produces non-uniform slices. The Pahl & Beitz method is applied through four main stages: task clarification, concept development, form design, and design evaluation. This study presents novelty in implementing a V-belt and pulley-based transmission system with a compact dimensional configuration adapted to the limited production space of MSMEs, as well as the use of type 304 stainless steel to ensure product hygiene and machine durability. Compared to conventional slicing machines, this design demonstrates an increase in capacity of up to 70 kg/hour, along with better energy efficiency and operator safety. This research is expected to serve as a reference for the development of appropriate technology to support MSMEs in the food processing sector, enhance competitiveness, and meet the growing market demand.

Abstract

Black rice (Oryza sativa L. indica) is increasingly recognized for its nutritional benefits, including high antioxidant content, dietary fiber, and gluten-free properties. However, limited market penetration persists due to unappealing and uninformative packaging. This study aimed to design and validate a packaging sticker prototype for black rice using a human-centered approach. The research employed the design thinking framework—empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test—with active participation from 20 farmers, 2 sellers, 2 ergonomics experts, and 20 consumers. Insights from stakeholders highlighted the need for branding authenticity, nutritional claims, halal certification, cooking instructions, and visual elements that balance cultural identity with premium appeal. The resulting prototype featured the brand “Beras Hitam Klaten,” clear health claims, preparation guidance, halal and regulatory information, and a balanced color scheme of earthy brown and gold accents. Validation with the USE Questionnaire demonstrated strong usability performance, with average scores of 4.5 for usefulness, 4.6 for satisfaction, 4.4 for ease of use, and 4.7 for ease of learning. Farmers and sellers reported improved confidence in marketing, while consumers appreciated the clarity and trust cues embedded in the design. The study concludes that integrating human-centered design principles into packaging development can significantly enhance product competitiveness for smallholder agribusiness, with implications for broader adoption in local food systems and SME innovation.

Abstract

Design of Decision Support System (DSS) for final project topic recommendation for ITERA Industrial Engineering students by integrating Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) and Certainty Factor (CF) methods used to support this research. A common problem is when determining the final project research topic, where most students have difficulty finding a topic that is in accordance with their respective fields of expertise. This causes the final project to take longer than the estimated standard time for graduates, which is normally between 4-5 years. The purpose of this study is to assist final year students in determining the final project title that suits their preferences and academic needs. The CBR method is used to search and compare cases based on case similarities with data contained in the database, while the CF value is applied to handle uncertainty and provide a level of confidence in the resulting recommendations. The results show that the integration of these two methods improves the accuracy and relevance of recommendations, as well as providing better transparency through the presentation of Certainty Factor values. System evaluation shows a high level of user satisfaction and a decrease in the time required to determine the final project topic. The design and development of a decision support system for final project topic recommendations was successfully carried out by integrating the Case-based Reasoning and Certainty Factor methods implemented on web hosting, performance evaluation and the impact of system use on user satisfaction showed that users felt satisfied when using the decision support system.
