Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to describe the implementation of teaching assistance program and the challenges in implementing teaching assitance program at SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak. This study used a descriptive study. The techniques of data collection were direct communication technique and direct observation technique. The tools of data collection were observation, and interview. The subject of this research were 7th semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak and the students in grade 10 and 11 of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak.The results of the research showed that the implementation of teaching assisstance program was succesfully regarded. All of participants carried out all the activities that have been previously arranged by the lecturers who guide them in implementing this program, even though there was one aspect of activity that all of participants could not implement because of learning at school was still limited due to the pandemic. As for challenges during the program, all of participants faced various challenges such as, in management or administration of education, in making lesson plans (RPP), students' network when online learning, the passive student when learning process, and one of participant who was still stiff in teaching.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the learning need analysis and validity level of supplementary learning module to teach students of English village in Sungai Deras. This research uses Research and Development with ADDIE model, which consists of 5 main stage, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of this research were student at English Village in Sungai Deras. The technique of data collection is indirect communication techniques. The data collection tools applied in this research were validation expert sheet and questionnaires. Validation expert sheet was used to get the data validity, meanwhile questionnaires was used to get data the practicality of learning need analysis. The result of this research based on the data collected showed that the level of validation of supplementary learning module from the material, language, presentation, and graphic aspects is white an average value of 76.04% including feasibility criteria. This mean that using supplementary learning module to teach students of English Village in Sungai Deras village classified as feasibility and practical to use. Meanwhile, need analysis of the Sungai Deras English village’s needs based on the results of the data need analysis questionnaire, there are 2 themes namely, the needs of the Sungai Deras English village and the planning of Sungai Deras English village.

Abstract

This descriptive quantitative study was conducted to analyze students' anxiety when speaking English. The subjects in this study were class A students in the second semester of IKIP PGRI Pontianak for the academic year 2021/2022. This sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques applied in this study were indirect communication using PSCAS questionnaires and direct communication using interviews. Questionnaires are used to determine the level of students' anxiety when speaking. Meanwhile, interviews were used to find out the causes of students' anxiety when speaking. Based on the results of the PSCAS questionnaire, the level of speaking anxiety in class A Morning in the second semester is divided into three levels, namely; 52% at moderate level, 27% at high level and 21% at low level. It can be concluded that the level of anxiety speaking English in class A Morning in the second semester is at a moderate level with 52%. Based on the results of the interviews, it can also be concluded that the causes of anxiety experienced by students when speaking are due to lack of preparation, shyness, lack of self-confidence, embarrassment, lack of vocabulary, friends/classmates, and fear of making mistakes.Keyword: Speaking Anxiety, Analysis Anxiety, PSCAS Questionnaire

Abstract

Abstract This descriptive study aims to determine the occurrence of learning losses in addition to learning aspects such as knowledge, skills, and attitudes of students from learning during the pandemic period taken from SMPN 05 Toba and SMAN 1 Toba. This study used descriptive qualitative method. This study involved 4 students and 4 teachers from 1 school. This study uses semi-structured interviews and interview guides as data collection tools. Data collection using interview guides related to learning during the pandemic.The results showed that it was true that there was a learning loss. This learning loss has occurred since the pandemic period where schools closed and made all schools have to do learning from home, so students are required to learn independently from their respective homes while in reality a learning process really needs interaction between students and teachers. The influence of learning loss occurs in the cognitive aspect, namely knowledge and skills and also in the non-cognitive aspect, namely attitude, where the pandemic period currently faced by schools is experiencing learning loss in students.

Abstract

This research aimed to find how the implementation of podcast for informative public speaking skill and to find out the students responses toward the implementation of podcast in informative public speaking skill of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. This research used a case study approach. To obtain the data, the researcher used observation technique and direct commmunication technique, they were observation checklist and interview as tools of data collection. The subject of this research was the second semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. To analyze the data, researcher used in this research was descriptive narrative. This technique is determined through three steps, Data Reduction, Data Display, and Conclussion (Miles and Huberman, 1984) from the results of observation checklist and interview.Implementing the podcast have advantages to students, one of them when the practice students of podcast can help improve students' english skills, especially in the speaking. The activities by video live podcast support the advantages of the implementation of podcast in public speaking course, and implementation of podcast in public speaking course is important to speak more fluently and comfortably, practice public speaking, train self-confidence, and can be useful for public speaking in the future, so students can get a more personal learning experience and confidence in doing public speaking. It could be the reason that using podcast to teach students how to speak English would improve their speaking skill.Keywords: Podcast, Public Speaking Skill, Informative, Second 2nd Semester.

Abstract

The a study conducted to find out how LRD works how the LRD strategy improves the student's reading comprehension of the spoken text. This study was conducted using a classroom behavioral survey. Conducted for her Grade 10 students at SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Raya for the academic year 2021/2022. The subject of this study was an IPA 3 science class, which consisted of 36 students. Field notes and reading comprehension tests served as means of data collection. To analyze the data, researchers used qualitative and quantitative data. For qualitative data, researchers used data reduction, data display, and inference to analyze the data. For quantitative data.Based on the result of qualitative data, the finding of this research showed that in the process of teaching and learning at Listen-Read-Discuss, the student’s behavior and activity in were classrooms were improved. The field note showed that the student’s performance improvement from the first round to the second round. Furthermore, quantitative data results showed that students get average marks of reading comprehension in the first cycle was 75,14 and in the second cycle was 80,14.Furthermore, the factor also influences improving students reading comprehension with the Listen-Read-Discuss strategy is an internal factor consisting of difficulties to understand main ideas, factual information, vocabulary, identifying references, and identifying inferences. Based on research results, in this case, the authors recommends to teachers that teachers should make better and more creative ways in applying techniques to teach reading skills. It can overcome students' difficulties in understanding longer reading materials and texts and improve students' understanding of the material being taught.Key words: Reading comprehension, listen-read-discuss, classroom action research in the classroom.

Abstract

In order to teach vocabulary mastery through the dominos card game to eight students in grade eight at SMP Negeri 03 Sungai Raya for the academic year 2022/2023, the purpose of this study is to determine how the domino card game can improve students' vocabulary mastery and the classroom environment when playing dominoes is applied. Class action research was used to carry out this study (CAR). The eighth grade of SMP Negeri 03 Sungai Raya, which had 33 pupils, was the focus of this study. Techniques for gathering data for this study included measurement and observation. Measurement approaches use language exams, while observation techniques use observation checklists and field notes. The study's data analysis then employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, depending on the type of data being analyzed The researcher measured students' vocabulary mastery through domino card games using two methods of assessment: individual scores and average scores. With the help of domino card games, the children were more engaged in the vocabulary acquisition process. They then showed greater enthusiasm for learning vocabulary through domino card games. The usage of domino card games can raise student results on the vocabulary test, as seen by cycle 1's low student scores (average score: 75.36) and cycle 2's higher student scores (average score: 81.36). The researcher advises other teachers to use domino card games while instructing pupils in vocabulary proficiency. The domino card game is a fun way to engage kids in the teaching and learning process while also helping to increase their vocabulary proficiency.  Keywords: Classroom Action Research, Vocabulary Mastery, Domino Card Game

Abstract

AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini bermaksud untuk melihat hasil minat baca siswa bahasa Inggris program studi pendidikan di IKIP PGRI Pontianak dan menemukan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya minat baca siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini bermaksud untuk melihat hasil minat baca siswa bahasa Inggris program studi pendidikan di IKIP PGRI Pontianak dan menemukan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya minat baca siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa memiliki minat membaca. Hal ini juga berkenaan dengan hasil wawancara. Hal ini terlihat dari aspek kesenangan yaitu mereka mengaku senang membaca, dibuktikan dengan siswa setuju bahwa membaca merupakan salah satu kegiatan yang paling menyenangkan, bahkan menurut tabel penelitian siswa memilih Tidak setuju jika mengatakan tidak suka membaca dan dari kebiasaan mereka yang masih menggunakan waktu luangnya untuk membaca sekitar 10-15 menit per hari, meskipun hampir semuanya lebih suka membaca buku-buku bergenre hiburan. Sebagian kecil dari mereka yang membaca buku pelajaran yang memiliki banyak manfaat. Namun, mereka akan membaca jika dosen memberikan tugas dan beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi minat baca mereka adalah: kesadaran akan pentingnya membaca, motivasi membaca, bahasa, ketersediaan buku di perpustakaan, intensitas waktu membaca, persepsi, lingkungan, internet, dan sistem pembelajaran. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa siswa harus meningkatkan minat membaca mereka. Selain itu, dosen bisa membantu mereka untuk menumbuhkan minat membaca dengan memberikan mereka beberapa tugas yang membutuhkan banyak referensi dan banyak membaca, meminta mereka untuk membuat rangkuman, dan lain-lain.

Abstract

This study examines perceptions of Duolingo as a tool for learning English. In this study, an experimental sample was taken from 5th grade elementary school, using the pre-test and post-test groups in the study. The researcher found that the students had difficulties in mastering English vocabulary. Some of the factors include, the lack of teacher motivation in developing class vocabulary and mastering student vocabulary, the teacher only takes vocabulary from books, English is not a compulsory subject so there are only 2 (two) hours a week and the tendency for children to be older to play. Based on the problems above, the researchers interes t in choosing the Duolingo application is that the application uses game techniques that make its use easy and fun. Gamification is a game-based learning and aesthetic mechanism that stimulates people to think, play, motivate and solve problems (Kapp, 2012). This study found that the Duolingo app can be used as a teaching tool to improve students skills. in grade 5 elementary school in class to improve their English. This means that the hypothesis is accepted and Duolingo can be used to expand vocabulary. The researcher recommends that English teachers use the Duolingo application to teach English vocabulary, because this application can stimulate students interest in learning processes and activities .

Abstract

This study aims to find out and get information about the strategies used by teachers in teaching speaking English. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative study. The subjects in this study were 2 English teachers at SMA Karya Sekadau. In collecting data, researchers used observation blueprints, and field notes to record observations in research, and in data collection techniques researchers used, observation, questionnaires, and tryouts to obtain more valid information regarding the steps and strategies used by teachers in teaching speaking. English. Researchers also use thematic analysis to determine the meaning and theme of the research subject and can interpret it in the text. Based on the data, it was found that the strategies that were often used by teachers when teaching English Speaking in class includes role-playing, talking about games and graphics, and discussing strategies. Teachers employ this tactic more frequently to encourage student participation in class discussions. The approach is applicable to learning to speak English, thus that is the conclusion that may be reached. Students can converse more fluently in English as a result.
