Abstract

This research is motivated by the researcher’s interest in EFL teachers at SMA N 1 Pemangkat using Hybrid Learning model. The purpose of this study is to describe the challenges faced by English teachers at SMAN 1 Pemangkat in the practice of hybrid learning in the 21st century. This research method uses descriptive qualitative. Interview and documentation are research tools used in this study. Interview as the main tool to collect data and information from informants. After that, documentation is concrete evidence used by the researcher to support data collections are RPP, Schedule of subjects, recordings, and photographs. The technique of sample selected is Saturation Sampling. The subjects of this study were English teachers at SMAN 1 Pemangkat. The result of this research is that there are challenges faced by English teachers in the hybrid learning model, namely; (1) The learning information does not arrive from the teacher to the students, (2) the teacher has difficulty in building the character and abilities of the students, and (3) the learning targets expected by the teacher are not achieved.Keywords: Hybrid Learning, Challenges of English Teacher, 21st Century

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan buat mengetahui peningkatan dominasi kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa memakai teka-teki silang serta buat mengetahui impak penggunaan teka-teki silang pada proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini memakai metode penelitian tindakan kelas. Peneliti melakukan penelitian di sebuah SMP di Kota Pontianak dan subjek dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari 36 siswa. Untuk pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan daftar periksa observasi, catatan lapangan dan tes kosa kata, untuk mengetahui apakah ada kemajuan dari siswa dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris mereka. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada dua siklus. waktu siklus 1 rata-homogen nilai peserta didik 77,22 dan  dikategorikan rendah atau kurang. lalu peneliti melanjutkan ke daur kedua dengan memakai langkah penelitian tindakan kelas serta peneliti lebih memfokuskan pada menarik perhatian peserta didik buat fokus di pembelajaran serta menyebutkan petunjuk pengerjaan teka teki silang. oleh sebab itu di siklus 2 nilai homogen-rata siswa semakin tinggi menjadi 80,69 dan  berada pada kategori baik. Hal ini membagikan peningkatan penguasaan kosa istilah bahasa Inggris setelah menerapkan permainan teka-teki silang dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas. akibat penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan dominasi kosa istilah peserta didik. keterlibatan siswa selama pelaksanaan teka-teki silang berjalan dengan baik, penerapan teka-teki silang serta tindakan pelengkap berhasil membantu peserta didik tahu kata-istilah baru dan  belajar bahasa Inggris dengan lebih baik. Kesimpulannya, penguasaan kosa istilah peserta didik ditingkatkan melalui penerapan teka-teki silang.Kata Kunci: Teka Teki Silang, Peningkatan Kosakata, Penelitian Tindakan di Kelas

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to clarify what reading difficulties are in TKJ Class X students majoring in SMKN 1 Rasau Jaya and what factors cause students' reading difficulties. I. Researchers used a quantitative descriptive analysis method. The subject of this study was a class X student majoring in her TKJ at SMKN 1 Rasau Jaya. Researchers used reading tests and questionnaires as data collection techniques. The population consisted of 34 X-class students majoring in TKJ SMKN 1 Rasau Jaya, and the sample consisted of all X-class students majoring in TKJ SMKN 1 Rasau Jaya.The results of this survey show that the main difficulties faced by students are:: first, identifying references; second, identify conclusions; third, identify actual information; fourth, vocabulary; And finally show that the main idea is to understand. By using the results of a questionnaire, the researcher found that the factors that influenced students' reading difficulties were unfamiliarity with reading material, difficulties in implementing reading strategies, and limited vocabulary knowledge. The researcher concluded that students of SMKN 1 Rasau Jaya had reading comprehension difficulties due to ignorance of the material, difficulties in implementing reading strategies, and limited vocabulary knowledge. Researchers encourage teachers to develop better and more creative ways to apply technology to teach reading comprehension. This helps students overcome difficulties in understanding the material they are reading and long sentences, as well as increasing their understanding of the material being taught.Keywords: Students’Difficulties, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims to determine teacher strategies in increasing students' English learning motivation during the era of the new normal and find out whether the strategies applied by teachers can increase students' English learning motivation during the era of the new normal at SMP Negeri 4 Sajingan Besar for the academic year of 2021/2022. This research is in the form of a qualitative descriptive. The data collection technique is a combination of direct and indirect methods. The participants of this research were 2 English teachers and 15 students. Data was collected using interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed that the teacher used several strategies to increase students' English learning motivation during the era of the new normal and found out whether the strategies applied by the teacher could increase students' learning motivation during the era of new normal, the teacher used demonstration, small group discussion, blended learning, and games. The most increasing motivation with the strategy used is extrinsic motivation.

Abstract

This research aimed to find how the implementation of podcast for informative public speaking skill and to find out the students responses toward the implementation of podcast in informative public speaking skill of English Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. This research used a case study approach. To obtain the data, the researcher used observation technique and direct commmunication technique, they were observation checklist and interview as tools of data collection. The subject of this research was the second semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak. To analyze the data, researcher used in this research was descriptive narrative. This technique is determined through three steps, Data Reduction, Data Display, and Conclussion (Miles and Huberman, 1984) from the results of observation checklist and interview.Implementing the podcast have advantages to students, one of them when the practice students of podcast can help improve students' english skills, especially in the speaking. The activities by video live podcast support the advantages of the implementation of podcast in public speaking course, and implementation of podcast in public speaking course is important to speak more fluently and comfortably, practice public speaking, train self-confidence, and can be useful for public speaking in the future, so students can get a more personal learning experience and confidence in doing public speaking. It could be the reason that using podcast to teach students how to speak English would improve their speaking skill.Keywords: Podcast, Public Speaking Skill, Informative, Second 2nd Semester.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a model to improve the quality of StL schools this is to ensure that it can be applied at schools in Sambas Regency under the challenging needs and potentials they have, based on the school perspective. The result of this study is expected to provide description of the How far has the activities included in StL model been applied by school, what challenges did rural schools face in implementing the activities of StL model, how is StL model which could be apply in rural schools locally and contextually. This research was multiple case study conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach involving 4 schools spread across Sambas Regency, namely in rural areas. In this case, the 4 schools are middle schools which include 2 different districts, namely Sebawi District and Tebas District. Tool of data collection was interview guidance, and the data analysis using thematic analysis and cross case analysis techniques. The result of this study is recommendation for improving the application of StL model been applied by considering which StL model that could be apply locally, contextually and the challenges found by schools in implementing StL model.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to describe the implementation of teaching assistance program and the challenges in implementing teaching assitance program at SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak. This study used a descriptive study. The techniques of data collection were direct communication technique and direct observation technique. The tools of data collection were observation, and interview. The subject of this research were 7th semester students of IKIP PGRI Pontianak and the students in grade 10 and 11 of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak.The results of the research showed that the implementation of teaching assisstance program was succesfully regarded. All of participants carried out all the activities that have been previously arranged by the lecturers who guide them in implementing this program, even though there was one aspect of activity that all of participants could not implement because of learning at school was still limited due to the pandemic. As for challenges during the program, all of participants faced various challenges such as, in management or administration of education, in making lesson plans (RPP), students' network when online learning, the passive student when learning process, and one of participant who was still stiff in teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to execute the implementation of classroom management in English from non-native English speaking teachers at SMK Bina Bangsa Meliau. The subjects in this study were two English teachers at the school, where the two teachers taught English using different methods. Researchers used interviews and also observations in this study, interviews were conducted by the two research language teachers, and observations were made by involving the teacher and students in the class when the learning took place. This study uses qualitative data analysis techniques from Ary, et al. (2010: 481). From the results of interviews and observations, it can be seen that the problem-solving method used by the teacher has advantages and disadvantages based on circumstances and environmental situations and usage. The results of the observations prove the teacher's statement in the previous interview.

Abstract

This research was aimed to provide supplementary English Language modul for students English village in Parit Nanas village who do not have experience learning English at school. This study used development of the ADDIE model which includes 5 stages, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects were school students in Parit Nanas. There are 22 students who take part in the English Village program. The sampling technique used was a purposeful sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were student worksheets, student response questionnaires and expert validation sheets. The results of the study based on the data collection showed that the level of validation of the LKS from the material and graphic aspects was with an average value of 68,75 % with feasibility including criteria. While the practicality of the Genre-Based LKS on the English Village Parit Nanas student material is with an average value of 79,4 % which is included in the practical criteria. From the results of the study, it was concluded that the use of teaching materials in the form of worksheets can help students to be able to develop basic English skills so that they can be applied in their social context.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate online learning practices carried out by schools during the Covid-19 pandemic in SintangRegency. The research implemented a descriptive qualitative approach involving 4 schools spread across Sintang Regency, namely in rural and urban areas. In  thiscase, the 4 schools include 2 Junior High Schools and 2 Senior High Schools. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive qualitative, using Thematic Analysis and Cross-case Analysis techniques. The proposed applied direct communication techniques were utilized such tools as interview guidance (open-ended), interview. The results of this study are expected to provide descriptions of the implementation of online learning, the challenges teachers face in designing online learning, and potential improvements that can be made in the future. The research findings indicated that implementation of online learning in Sintangregency have differences, that are in rural schools apply blended learning and urban schools apply fully online learning. In implementing online learning, teachers and students face various challenges, that are teachers are having difficulties in implementing online learning, limited facilities and infrastructure, differences in students' understanding, difficulties of collaboration between parents and students, and issues of motivation in online learners. In further analysis regarding online learning in Sintang Regency, the findings found that the findings found that the potential for future improvements that schools wanted was an evaluation of learning, providing seminar of technology mastery, and synergy of school committees and governments.
