Abstract

Students who are working on their final thesis tend to experience anxiety; as the final project is considered a determinant of graduation within a limited timeframe. Concerns about not being able to complete the thesis on time, limited references, and fear of criticism from lecturers can increase anxiety among students. The level of anxiety felt also varies. One essential skill that final-year students must have to manage anxiety is maintaining a strong belief in their ability to accomplish tasks, this belief is known as self-efficacy. The higher a student’s level of self-efficacy, the lower their level of anxiety will be. This study aims to analyze the anxiety experienced by students and the efforts that can be made to improve self-efficacy. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with six respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that final-year students experience symptoms of anxiety such as sleep disorders, eating disorders, nausea, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, emotional instability, negative thoughts, overthinking, lack of motivation, and procrastination. Efforts that can be made to increase students’ self-efficacy in overcoming the anxiety of completing their thesis include: recalling past successful experiences, managing emotions effectively, maintaining motivation, observing the success of peers, and increasing worship to Allah SWT to gain inner peace.

Abstract

Conceptual and procedural errors are still frequently found among prospective mathematics teachers when solving mathematical problems. However, the questions commonly used to assess conceptual and procedural understanding tend to be routine in nature, which may not adequately reflect students’ mastery of the material. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the conceptual and procedural errors made by prospective mathematics teachers when solving a non-routine problem related to the topic of reflection. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, involving 16 students from the Mathematics Education program at UIN Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar. The research instrument consisted of a single non-routine problem administered after the students had studied the topic of reflection. The results showed that 11 students were able to solve the problem correctly, while the remaining 5 made errors. The identified conceptual errors included a lack of understanding of the concepts of reflection and linear equations, as well as incorrect use of mathematical notation. Procedural errors involved computational mistakes and carelessness in forming equations. These findings indicate that strengthening students' conceptual and procedural understanding is still necessary before directing them toward developing higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

Learning strategies and media are two essential and interrelated components within the learning system. A common problem that often arises is the mismatch between strategies and media with students’ characteristics and learning objectives. This study aims to analyze the role of learning strategies and media in supporting instruction as a unified system. The research method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from various relevant literature sources and analyzed to describe the relationship between strategies, media, and other learning components. The results show that the appropriate and mutually supportive selection of learning strategies and media can enhance learning effectiveness, encourage active student participation, and strengthen the achievement of learning goals. Therefore, teachers need to consider strategies and media in an integrated manner in every stage of lesson planning.

Abstract

This study aimed to document and analyze best practices in the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka at MTsN 2 Bener Meriah, focusing on initial challenges and adaptive strategies employed. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, the research involved the school principal, 25 teachers, and 88 students through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using a thematic approach with triangulation from multiple sources. Results indicate that the implementation was effectively supported by community-based training conducted by Balai Diklat Keagamaan Aceh, which enhanced teachers’ understanding and skills. A series of workshops on learning objectives, lesson planning, assessment, and module development contributed to a paradigm shift from teacher-centered to student-centered learning. Classroom implementation, accompanied by collaborative reflection with academic supervisors, improved both the quality of teaching and student engagement by up to 70%. Additionally, P5RA projects, namely, Anti-Bullying Seminar, Pottery Making, and Voice of Democracy, successfully integrated Pancasila and Islamic values into meaningful learning experiences. Key supporting factors included transformative leadership by the school principal and robust teacher collaboration, while challenges such as limited infrastructure and varied teacher readiness were mitigated through resource optimization and peer mentoring. The study concludes that community-based training and collaborative reflection are critical to the successful implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka and offers important implications for similar strategies in other Islamic education institutions.

Abstract

Introducing letters to early childhood is an essential stage in developing early literacy skills and reading readiness. However, children often experience difficulties in distinguishing similar letter shapes, such as ‘b’ and ‘d’ or ‘m’ and ‘w’. This study aims to describe the improvement of letter recognition skills through the use of magnetic letter board media. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with data collection techniques including observation, interview, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed a significant improvement in children’s letter recognition ability after implementing the magnetic board media. In the first cycle, there were 3 children categorized as Very Well Developed (BSB), 4 children as Developing as Expected (BSH), 5 children as Beginning to Develop (MB), and 3 children as Not Yet Developed (BB). In the second cycle, the categories improved to 9 children (BSB), 3 children (BSH), 2 children (MB), and 1 child (BB). These findings indicate that the use of magnetic letter board media is effective in enhancing children’s letter recognition skills and in creating a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment.

Abstract

Critical attitude is an important 21st-century competency that supports analytical and decision-making skills. Observations show that students are still passive in learning, such as being reluctant to ask and answer questions, indicating that critical attitude is still low. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of improving critical attitude using worksheets web-based Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) that have been developed previously on environmental pollution. The research method uses a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest and posttest experimental design. The study was conducted on eighth-grade junior high school students on environmental pollution material. The study was conducted at SMP 1 Suruh Trenggalek. The data analysis technique used was the N-gain test. The critical attitude instrument includes four indicators: truth-seeking, open-mindedness, confidence in reasoning, and cognitive maturity. The results showed an n-gain value of 0.32 (moderate category). The highest sub-indicator was cognitive maturity, while confidence in reasoning was the lowest. These findings prove that the use of worksheets web-based SSI-based is effective in improving students' critical attitude, although optimization is needed in the confidence in reasoning aspect.
