Abstract

Hypertension is one of the major public health problems with a high prevalence that can lead to various cardiovascular complications. The management of hypertension is not only carried out through pharmacological therapy but can also be supported by non-pharmacological interventions such as nostril breathing exercise, a breathing technique that alternates between the nostrils and aims to increase parasympathetic nervous system activity, thereby helping to reduce blood pressure. This study aimed to determine the effect of nostril breathing exercise on blood pressure reduction among hypertensive clients within the family context. This study used a case study approach with a nostril breathing exercise intervention conducted for three days on two hypertensive clients with family support. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention each day. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure after the intervention, with an average reduction of 10 mmHg in systolic blood pressure and 2 mmHg in diastolic blood pressure. Family involvement in reminding, accompanying, and motivating the clients to perform the exercise also contributed to the success of the intervention. In conclusion, nostril breathing exercise is a simple, safe, and economical non-pharmacological therapy that can help reduce blood pressure in hypertensive clients and can be applied in family nursing practice at home.

Abstract

Heart failure causes a decrease in the heart’s ability to pump blood, making patients prone to exercise intolerance. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) therapy on exercise tolerance in patients with heart failure. SEFT is a method that combines spiritual elements and energy psychology techniques through the application of pressure to 18 body points, consisting of 6 points on the head, 3 points in the chest area, and 9 points in the hand area. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest method with a control group. A total of 34 respondents were selected using purposive sampling at a Type B hospital. The sample size was determined based on the formula for hypothesis testing to compare the means of two independent groups, resulting in 17 respondents each for the intervention group and the control group. The respondents included in the study were patients diagnosed with heart failure who were conscious, had limited mobility, and were willing to participate in the study. SEFT was administered over three days, with each session lasting 10–15 minutes. Data analysis was performed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests. The study results indicate that there was a significant increase in exercise tolerance in the group receiving SEFT therapy compared to the control group (p < 0.005). SEFT therapy is believed to produce a relaxing effect, stimulate the release of endorphins, and help balance the body’s energy.

Abstract

Coronary heart disease often requires Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG). Postoperatively, patients frequently experience declined functional capacity due to immobilization and pain, hindering recovery. This study aims to evaluate the effect of a Phase II cardiac rehabilitation exercise program on improving functional capacity in post-CABG patients. A quantitative analytical observational approach was used with a prospective cohort design involving a single group. The sample consisted of 40 postoperative patients who completed 12 sessions of Phase II cardiac rehabilitation, including aerobic warm-ups, static cycling (25 watts for 10 minutes), and treadmill or track walking. Functional capacity was measured using the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) and Metabolic Equivalents (METs), converted via the Cahalin formula before and after the intervention. The findings showed a significant increase in METs after the intervention ($p = 0.023$; $\alpha < 0.05$), with most patients improving from the moderate category (4–6 METs) to the good (>6–8 METs) and very good (>8 METs) categories. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test yielded a Z-value of -2.271 ($p = 0.023$), indicating significant functional capacity improvement. Phase II cardiac rehabilitation is effective in enhancing functional capacity in post-CABG patients. Active participation is recommended for ongoing recovery.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition that increases the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In addition to pharmacological treatment, non-pharmacological interventions such as hypertension exercise are important components of comprehensive hypertension management. This study aimed to analyze the effect of hypertension exercise on blood pressure reduction among individuals with hypertension. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 41 participants selected through random sampling. The intervention consisted of eight hypertension exercise sessions conducted over four weeks. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention and analyzed using the Paired t-test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that mean systolic blood pressure decreased from 141.56 mmHg to 131.24 mmHg, while mean diastolic blood pressure decreased from 83.37 mmHg to 82.51 mmHg. Statistical analysis revealed a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure (p < 0.05), whereas the reduction in diastolic blood pressure was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). It can be concluded that hypertension exercise is effective in reducing blood pressure, particularly systolic blood pressure, but has not shown a significant effect on diastolic blood pressure.

Abstract

Heart failure is a chronic disease requiring long-term management through improved disease understanding, self-management abilities, and digital technology support. While digital device utilization in heart failure care continues to expand, patients’ knowledge, perceived needs, and self-management abilities remain varied. This study aimed to describe the levels of knowledge, needs related to digital device use, and self-management among patients with heart failure. A descriptive quantitative design was applied with a sample of 48 heart failure patients selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included a knowledge questionnaire adapted from the Digital Health Literacy Instrument (DHLI), a digital device needs questionnaire based on the SKF-DK-HF, and a self-management questionnaire adapted from the Self-Care of Heart Failure Index (SCHFI) version 7.2. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis with frequency distributions and percentages. The results showed that most respondents were aged 46–55 years (33.3%) and female (66.7%). The majority demonstrated good knowledge regarding digital device use (64.6%), moderate levels of digital device needs (58.3%), and more than half had adequate self-management ability (58.3%).These findings indicate that although most patients possess good knowledge and adequate self-management, optimizing digital device use and strengthening consistent self-care practices remain necessary.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is frequently accompanied by impaired sleep quality, which may worsen health conditions due to blood pressure fluctuations and increase the risk of complications. Sleep disturbances in patients with hypertension negatively affect quality of life and delay the recovery process. One non-pharmacological approach that may improve sleep quality is music relaxation therapy. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of music relaxation therapy in improving sleep quality among patients with hypertension. A pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted. The study included 47 patients with hypertension selected using a purposive sampling technique. Sleep quality was assessed before and after the intervention using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in sleep quality following the music relaxation therapy intervention, as indicated by reduced complaints of difficulty sleeping, decreased frequency of nocturnal awakenings, and increased sleep comfort. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000; p < 0.05), indicating that music relaxation therapy significantly improved sleep quality among patients with hypertension. These findings suggest that music relaxation therapy is a safe, practical, and effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention for improving sleep quality in patients with hypertension, particularly in primary healthcare settings.

Abstract

Breast cancer is a leading cause of worldwide female morbidity and mortality, making early detection through Breast Self-Examination (BSE) crucial for adolescents despite their limited awareness. This quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design evaluated the effectiveness of interactive multimedia animation video education in improving BSE knowledge among adolescent girls. Seventy participants aged 16–20 were divided into an intervention group (animated video) and a control group (standard leaflet). Knowledge was measured via a validated questionnaire ($\alpha = 0.772$) and analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney U tests ($p < 0.05$). Results showed a significant knowledge increase in the intervention group from 5.0±1.36 to 9.28±0.85 ($p < 0.001$), while the control group showed no significant improvement ($p = 0.065$). The difference between groups was highly significant ($p < 0.001$). In conclusion, interactive multimedia animation video education is more effective than conventional leaflets, offering a practical strategy to enhance adolescent reproductive health literacy.
