Jurnal Komunikasi Global (JKG) is a peer-reviewed journal organized and published by the Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Syiah Kuala University. JKG publishes research and review articles promoting various approaches in the field of communication studies limited to mass communication, marketing communication, and intercultural communication (starting from Volume 9(2) 2020). JKG publishes twice a year in June and December. Each volume contains eight research and review articles. JKG is a follow-up journal of Komunikasi Global which was firstly published in 2012. Since 2017, the journal has been published online with the first edition Volume 6(1) 2017. Starting from Volume 7(1) 2018, JKG adopted the IMRAD model for Heading Style and Writing Publication following the Indonesian Ministry of Research and Higher Education regulations. JKG was accredited by Kemenristekdikti RI (SINTA 4) from Volume 7(1) 2018. Since Volume 10 (1) 2021, JKG is accredited with SINTA 3 (SK No.158/E/KPT/2021). Since Volume 9(1) 2020, a new journal template adding article history, citation and some adjustment of font size, header, table format, article history and citation has been initiated to maintain the quality of the publication.

Abstract

The culinary business today is one of the most sought-after business alternatives in Depok. This can be seen that out of 1000 business actors in Depok in 2018, most of them are doing business in the culinary sector. Because the development of the culinary business is increasing rapidly, culinary entrepreneurs, especially women, need various information related to this business. This study aims to find out the communication channels used by women culinary entrepreneurs in Depok to meet their information needs. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The sample was chosen using a purposive sampling technique based on the characteristics of women who have culinary business, both online and offline. Data were collected by sending questionnaires online through a google form. Within two weeks, as many as 96 respondents were willing to fill out and return the questionnaire. The results of the study show that in the current technological development, the role of communication channels is crucial to support culinary business activities. Various types of culinary information are obtained very quickly when smart business actors utilize the right communication channels. The majority of women culinary entrepreneurs in Depok use communication channels through group chat and interpersonal communication channels, such as friends and family.

Abstract

The burning church in Aceh Singkil on October 13, 2015 has caught the attention of local, national and even international media. The conflict motivated by the building permit issue required the media to expose the issue as it was. This study aims to get a picture of how Waspada Daily implemented peace journalism in reporting this case. The theory used in this research is peace journalism theory by Johan Galtung. The research used a quantitative approach with content analysis method towards 17 news articles published between 12 and 26 October 2015 which were selected based on purposive sampling techniques. Data were presented in the form of statistical frequency. The research findings show that the Waspada Daily news on the church burning in Aceh Singkil applied four categories of peace journalism by Johan Galtung and met all indicators in each category.

Abstract

Weverse merupakan media sosial resmi khusus untuk meng-hosting konten media dan komunikasi antara penggemar dan idola secara langsung sehingga Weverse digunakan oleh para fandom ARMY untuk melakukan interaksi sosial. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui proses interaksi sosial yang terjadi antara sesama fandom ARMY melalui media sosial Weverse. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data melalui wawancara dengan lima narasumber yang dipilih dengan teknik purposive sampling dan dokumentasi dari penggunaan Weverse oleh fandom ARMY. Hasil analisis interaksi sosial di Weverse menunjukkan bahwa penggemar tertentu menjadi gatekeeper digital bagi penggemar yang lain. Interaksi tidak hanya untuk memberikan dukungan yang bersifat asosiatif (positif) tetapi juga berfungsi sebagai penyaring pesan dari perilaku disosiatif (negatif) penggemar lain. Weverse is the official social media specifically for hosting media content and direct communication between fans and idols, so Weverse is used by ARMY fandoms for social interaction. This study aims to determine the social interaction process between fellow ARMY fandoms through Weverse. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach using phenomenology. Data were collected through interviews with five participants selected using a purposive sampling technique and documentation of the use of Weverse by the ARMY fandom. The analysis of social interaction in Weverse showed that some fans became digital gatekeepers for other fans. Interactions were not only to provide associative (positive) support but also functioned as message filters for other fans from dissociative (negative) behaviors.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between organizational communication and workplace conflict in PT. Kimia Farma, Tbk. Makassar Branch. The paradigm in research is positivism to see the relationship between the two variables in this study. The measuring instrument in this study is the scale of organizational communication and work conflict using the Likert scale. The number of samples was 54 employees who were determined using the Slovin formula and selected using the simple random sampling method from 118 people in total. Data were collected through a survey. It was used Pearson Product Moment test to analyze data with the help of SPSS 22.0. The results of the study show that there is a negative and significant relationship between organizational communication and workplace conflict at PT. Kimia Farma Tbk. Makassar Branch. The correlation coefficient between organizational communication and work conflict is -0.781 or 78.1% with a significance value of p less than 0.000. It can be concluded that if all people in the organization have good organizational communication, the possibility for the workplace conflict will decrease, and vice versa.

Abstract

Pencitraan yang dilakukan kandidat presiden bisa terjadi dalam berbagai media. Salah satu media yang jarang dipakai tetapi unik adalah melalui video klip Goyang Jempol Jokowi Gaspol dan The Power of Emak-Emak. Penelitian ini menggunakan segitiga makna semiotika C. S. Pierce yaitu representamen, objek, dan interpretan, guna mengungkap interpretasi tersembunyi dari video klip politik tersebut. Penggunaan konsep ini dibatasi pada interpretan pada gambar dibandingkan pada lirik lagu. Jenis penelitian adalah deskriptif kualitatif agar dapat mendukung teori semiotika untuk mengungkap makna dari kedua video klip tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Jokowi direpresentasikan sebagai sosok merakyat yang selalu didukung masyarakat, dekat dengan generasi milenial, dan sosok yang tidak anti Islam. Sedangkan Prabowo direpresentasikan sebagai sosok yang dicintai para emak-emak, sosok yang dekat dengan ulama dan umat Islam, dan sosok yang bisa memberikan solusi dari masalah-masalah yang muncul sejak pemerintahan Jokowi. Video klip yang digunakan oleh Jokowi dan Prabowo memiliki penggambaran citra yang ingin ditonjolkan guna memenangkan pemilihan presiden. A presidential candidate's political imaging can take many forms. One of the unique media that is rarely used is video clips, such as Goyang Jempol Jokowi Gaspol and The Power of Emak-Emak. This study used triadic relations, from C. S. Pierce's semiotics, between representamen, objects, and interpretants, to uncover hidden interpretations of the political video clips. The research was a qualitative descriptive study to support the theory of semiotics to reveal profound meanings in the video clips. The use of this concept was limited to interpretants in images rather than song lyrics. The results of this study found that Jokowi was represented as a populist figure who was always supported by the community, close to the millennial generation, and not anti-Islam. Meanwhile, Prabowo was represented as a figure who was loved by Indonesian women, close to ulama and Muslims, and can provide solutions to problems that have emerged since Jokowi's administration. The video clips used by Jokowi and Prabowo contained highlighted images of both candidates to win the presidential election.

Abstract

Dalam pandangan masyarakat, kultur dan tafsiran agama perempuan masih lekat dengan isu ketidakadilan gender. Khususnya bagi kaum feminisme, pandangan budaya dan keagamaan yang bersifat patriarkis menjadi tantangan untuk kebebasan perempuan dan kesetaraan gender. Dengan menggunakan metode Analisis Wacana Sara Mills, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana konstruksi wacana perempuan dan Islam dalam stand up comedy Komika Santri oleh Sakdiyah Ma’ruf. Peneliti menganalisis stand up comedy Komika Santri yang dibawakan oleh Sakdiyah Ma’ruf melalui tiga tahapan level analisis yaitu level kata, kalimat, dan wacana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan masih diperbincangkan sebagai korban dalam stand up comedy Komika Santri. Sakdiyah Ma’ruf menegaskan wacana bahwa ketidakadilan terhadap perempuan yang digambarkan dengan adanya pelarangan perempuan dalam beraktivitas di luar dan pembatasan hak perempuan disebabkan oleh ideologi agama yang bersifat patriarki. Melalui wacana tersebut, Sakdiyah Ma’ruf mengesampingkan bahwa diskriminasi terhadap perempuan terjadi karena praktik budaya patriarki yang menjadikan agama sebagai justifikasi untuk melakukannya.In the view of the community, culture and the interpretation of religion is still closely related to the issue of gender injustice. Especially for feminists, patriarchal culture and religion have challenged women's liberation and gender equality. Using Sara Mills’s discourse analysis method, this study sought to understand how Muslim woman was constructed in stand up comedy Komika Santri which was delivered by Sakdiyah Ma'ruf. Researchers analyzed the stand up comedy script through three levels of analysis, including words, sentences, and discourse. The research results showed that women were mainly discussed as victims in the stand up comedy Komika Santri. Sakdiyah Ma'ruf confirms discourse that social injustices against women such as the prohibition of women to perform an outdoor activity and the restrictions of women's rights was caused by religious-based patriarchal ideology. Through such a discourse, Sakdiyah Ma'ruf ignored that discrimination against women occurred because of the practice of patriarchal culture who made religion as a justification for doing so.

Abstract

Perkembangan Social Networking Sites (SNS) telah melahirkan praktik baru dalam pengasuhan yang dinamakan sharenting. Praktik sharenting mengacu pada tindakan orang tua yang kerap membagikan foto atau video anaknya ke media sosial. Berbagai penelitian menunjukkan dampak positif dan negatif dari sharenting. Salah satu kekhawatiran dari praktik sharenting adalah permasalahan privasi anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan memaparkan sharenting yang dilakukan oleh orang tua dari kalangan biasa di Indonesia dengan menganalisis jejak digital yang ditinggalkan di Instagram melalui penggunaan tagar #anakku dan dikaitkan juga dengan permasalahan privasi anak. Metode netnografi digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mempelajari budaya dari pengguna media digital dari jejak daring. Hasil penelitian menemukan ada lima kategori unggahan sharenting di Instagram dengan tagar #anakku. Sejumlah unggahan yang ditemukan menunjukkan kurang adanya kesadaran orang tua dalam menjaga privasi anaknya dalam unggahan mereka di Instagram.The development of Social Networking Sites (SNS) has created a new practice in parenting called sharenting. Sharenting refers to the actions of parents publicizing photos or videos of their children on social media. Various studies have shown the positive and negative impacts of sharenting. One of the growing concerns of sharenting is the issue of child privacy. This study aims to describe sharenting by parents in Indonesia by analyzing digital footprints on Instagram through the #anakku hashtag and discuss it with child privacy issues. The netnography method is used in this research to study the culture of digital media users from online footprints. The results of the study found five categories of sharenting posts on Instagram with the hashtag #anakku. The results also revealed the lack of awareness of parents to protect their children's privacy on Instagram.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the use of smartphones and how these technologies allow access to pornography among junior high school girls. Using a qualitative descriptive study method, this study examines ownership of smartphones and pornographic content that may be accessed via smartphones. The informants were four students of SMP Negeri 2, Padalarang, West Java. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and observation. The results showed that junior high school students started to have regular mobile devices since they were still in elementary school. After they began to use smartphones at junior high school, they were inadvertently exposed to the pornographic content. These findings reveal that how more sophisticated technological devices have the potential to open access to pornographic content.

Abstract

Program Satu Keluarga Satu Sarjana merupakan program pembangunan pemerintah Kota Pariaman dalam upaya mengentaskan kemiskinan melalui peningkatan sumber daya manusia masyarakat di wilayahnya. Agar program dapat diterima dan mendapatkan partisipasi oleh khalayak dibutuhkan sebuah strategi komunikasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan strategi komunikasi pemerintah Kota Pariaman dalam pelaksanaan program Satu Keluarga Satu Sarjana dengan menggunakan model perencanaan strategi komunikasi lingkaran. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi non-partisipasi dan wawancara mendalam dilakukan dengan empat orang informan yang dipilih dengan metode purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi dalam pelaksanaan program dilakukan dalam bentuk sosialisasi langsung berupa dialog dan wawancara yang dilakukan petugas di lapangan, dan berkomunikasi menggunakan media luar ruang, website pemerintah, portal online serta media sosial. Sementara hambatan yang timbul di masyarakat berupa kesenjangan informasi dan tanggapan negatif terhadap program serta kurangnya sumber daya manusia dalam menciptakan komunikasi efektif.  The one-family one-degree program is a development program for the Pariaman city government to alleviate poverty by increasing the human resources of the people in the region. However, for the program to be accepted and get participation by the public, a communication strategy is needed. This study aims to describe the communication strategy of the Pariaman city government in the implementation of the one-family one-degree program using the circular communication model. This study used a qualitative method. Data were collected through non-participant observation and in-depth interviews with four informants selected by the purposive sampling method. The results showed that the implementation of the program was carried out in direct socialization in the form of dialogues and interviews conducted by officers in the field and communicating using outdoor media, government websites, online portals, and social media. Meanwhile, the obstacles that arise in the community were in the form of information gaps and negative responses to the program, and a lack of organizational human resources in creating effective communication.

Abstract

Situ Gede Tourist Site Tasikmalaya has a lot of potential as a tourist attraction, but natural it was neglected and had only a few visitors until the local Tourism Office has managed and promoted the tourist site. This study aimed to analyse the tourism promotion strategy of Situ Gede by the local Tourism Office using the concept of the promotion mix. This research is qualitative research in which data were collected through interviews with four key informants from the local Tourism Office. Informants were selected using purposive sampling technique. The results of the study show that the marketing strategy carried out by the Tourism Office including advertising, direct marketing, sales promotion, personal sales, interactive marketing, public relations, has succeeded in increasing the number of tourists.
