Jurnal Komunikasi Global (JKG) is a peer-reviewed journal organized and published by the Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Syiah Kuala University. JKG publishes research and review articles promoting various approaches in the field of communication studies limited to mass communication, marketing communication, and intercultural communication (starting from Volume 9(2) 2020). JKG publishes twice a year in June and December. Each volume contains eight research and review articles. JKG is a follow-up journal of Komunikasi Global which was firstly published in 2012. Since 2017, the journal has been published online with the first edition Volume 6(1) 2017. Starting from Volume 7(1) 2018, JKG adopted the IMRAD model for Heading Style and Writing Publication following the Indonesian Ministry of Research and Higher Education regulations. JKG was accredited by Kemenristekdikti RI (SINTA 4) from Volume 7(1) 2018. Since Volume 10 (1) 2021, JKG is accredited with SINTA 3 (SK No.158/E/KPT/2021). Since Volume 9(1) 2020, a new journal template adding article history, citation and some adjustment of font size, header, table format, article history and citation has been initiated to maintain the quality of the publication.

Abstract

This research examines the effect of interpersonal communication of external debt collector service to customer satisfaction level at PT. Clipan Finance Indonesia Surabaya Branch. The research used a simple correlational method in which the variable x is interpersonal communication external debt collector service and variable y is level of customers’ satisfaction. Researchers use survey by distributing questionnaire as data collecting technique. In the processing stage, researchers used editing, coding and tabulating. The data analysis technique used correlation analysis and simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that there was insignificant influence between interpersonal communication variables external debt collector service to the level of customer satisfaction of bad credit at PT. Clipan Finance Indonesia Surabaya Branch.

Abstract

Praktik kebijakan pemerintah mengenai Covid-19 yang dinilai tumpang tindih menyebabkan tenaga medis di Indonesia bereaksi dengan menggunakan #IndonesiaTerserah di Twitter dalam bentuk video meme. Ini merupakan bentuk kekecewaan tenaga medis yang sebelumnya dielukan sebagai pahlawan yang berada di garda depan pada saat pandemi Covid-19. Reaksi tersebut mendapat dukungan oleh para netizen yang meunggah ulang sebagai konsekuensi tindakan subversif. Artikel ini bertujuan mengkaji praktik, pesan dan ideologi video kreator #IndonesiaTerserah dengan metode analisis meme Limor Shifman melalui tiga dimensi teks asli yaitu content, form dan stance. Penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa ungkapan “terserah” menjadi sebuah kalimat satire yang umumnya diungkapkan dalam protes akal sehat. Pesan subversif yang terkandung disampaikan dengan logis dan emosional demi membangun kerjasama dan rasa kemanusiaan. Kreator menghasilkan karya video dengan kualitas semi-profesional didukung teks guna mempertegas narasi tokoh. Ideologi perjuangan tenaga kesehatan mempertegas bahwa mereka masih berada di garda terdepan, profesi yang tak mudah tergantikan dengan sekejap namun mudah hilang bila tak terjaga. The overlapping government policy on Covid-19 caused medical personnel in Indonesia to react by using #IndonesiaTerserah on Twitter in the form of meme videos. This is a form of disappointment for those who were previously hailed as heroes who were at the forefront during the Covid-19 pandemic. This reaction received support from netizens who posted it as an act of subversion. This article aims to examine the practices, messages, and ideology of #IndonesiaTerserah video creators using the meme analysis method of Limor Shifman through 3 dimensions of the original text, content, form, and stance. This research showed that the expression "whatever" becomes a satirical sentence consisting of commonsense applications. Subversive messages were delivered logically and emotionally in order to build cooperation and a sense of humanity. The creator produced semi-professional quality videos supported by text to emphasize the narratives of characters. The ideology of health workers emphasized that they were still at the forefront, a profession that cannot be easily replaced but can easily be lost if unprotected.

Abstract

Penggunaan Instagram di kalangan anak remaja di daerah kecil seperti Rejang Lebong akan memberikan pengalaman baru dalam kehidupan mereka. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman remaja kelas menengah bawah dalam menggunakan media sosial Instagram di Rejang Lebong. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dengan delapan informan dan observasi di media sosial dengan menjadi follower Instagram informan. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa para informan yang menjadi subjek penelitian mempunyai pengalaman yang menyenangkan dan tidak menyenangkan ketika menggunakan Instagram. Mereka juga terlibat secara aktif dalam mengelola kesan, baik secara fisik maupun sosial. Pengelolaan kesan ini dilakukan untuk menutupi kelemahan dan kekurangan mereka.  The use of Instagram among teenagers in small areas such as Rejang Lebong has provided new experiences in their lives. This research was conducted to explore the experiences of lower-class teenagers in Rejang Lebong in using Instagram. This study used a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Data were collected through interviews with eight participants and observations on social media by following their Instagram accounts. This study found that the informants who were the study subjects had pleasant and unpleasant experiences when using Instagram. They are also actively involved in managing impressions, both physically and socially. This impression management is done to cover their weaknesses and shortcomings.

Abstract

Online games have become one of the most popular entertainments among adolescents. Instead of being used as a form of entertainment, sometimes online games become a medium of verbal violence or better known as cyberbullying. This study sought to find out whether adolescents who play online games have a greater tendency to become victims of cyberbullying, compared to adolescents who do not play online games. A survey is used by distributing questionnaires to 299 high school students. The results of this study indicate that there is an association between online games exposure and the tendency to become victims of cyberbullying. Adolescents who play online games have a greater tendency to become cyberbullying victims. This finding has implications for prevention and intervention efforts aimed at reducing cyberbullying.

Abstract

The development program has three components namely development communications, development programs containing ideas about development programs, and the community. This research focused on community empowerment in the health area through Desa Siaga program. Desa Siaga is the state of a region that is ready to implement health empowerment independently. The purpose of this research was to find out the development communication strategy of the Health Promotion Team, the Community Health Care of Polokarto, through Desa Siaga program in Bulu Village, Polokarto, Sukoharjo. It used a descriptive qualitative method. This study used in-depth interviews with three informants and observation. Informants were selected using snowball sampling technique. The findings demonstrated that the team successfully implemented Desa Siaga program using the 5P technique (Possibility, Reinforcement, Protection, Support, and Maintenance). The findings also indicated that Desa Siaga program as a program introduced by Puskesmas Promotion team Polokarto received a positive response from the community by forming an organization to launch the program that is Village Health Forum.

Abstract

Komunikasi orang tua dan anak memegang peran penting untuk penanaman nilai-nilai moral dalam menghindari perilaku negatif, seperti perilaku seks bebas pranikah pada anak. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menganalisis sejauh mana edukasi dan penerapan aturan-aturan oleh orang tua untuk mencegah seks pranikah. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif, dengan wawancara mendalam terhadap empat orang ibu dan empat orang anak. Pemilihan informan dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Teori yang digunakan adalah rules theory dengan spesifikasi rule-governing yang dikemukakan oleh Shimanoff. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesadaran dari pentingnya edukasi tentang seks serta bahaya seks pranikah oleh ibu selaku orang tua masih sangat minim, karena dianggap masih terlalu tabu dan belum pantas diberikan dengan usia remaja. Akibatnya, banyak dari remaja yang memperoleh informasi terkait dengan seks dari sumber lain, seperti teman sebaya dan internet. Hal ini mengakibatkan para remaja salah memaknai informasi bahkan menggunakan informasi itu untuk melakukan hal-hal buruk seperti perilaku seks pranikah tanpa ada aturan dari orang tua yang bersifat mengikat. Communication between parents and their children plays an important role in instilling moral values in avoiding negative behaviours, such as premarital sexual behaviour. This study aims to determine the extent of education and application of the rules by parents to prevent premarital sex. This research employed a descriptive qualitative study through an in-depth interview with four mothers and four children. The selection of informants is done by purposive sampling. The theory used was the rules theory with the rule-governing specification, purposed by Shimanoff. The results showed that awareness of the importance of sex education and the dangers of premarital sex was relatively low because it was considered inappropriate to discuss it with their children. As a result, their children obtained sex-related information mostly from other sources, such as peers and the internet. This resulted in the misinterpretation of information which encouraged negative behaviours which have intensified without any binding rules from parents.

Abstract

Animasi tidak lagi sekedar menampilkan karikatur lucu berteknologi 3D, tapi juga karakter yang biasanya sulit dilihat kasat mata, yakni Emotional Intelligence atau kecerdasan emosional yang digambarkan di film animasi Inside Out dan drama Korea Selatan Yumi’s Cells. Karakter animasi kecerdasan emosional yang menghuni otak manusia mampu divisualisasikan saling berkomunikasi dan berinteraksi sehingga merepresentasikan konsep teori Interaksionisme Simbolik. Penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis percakapan ini menawarkan hal baru tentang hubungan dan urutan proses terbentuknya komunikasi interaksionisme simbolik dari tiga konsep dalam teori interaksionisme simbolik dari dua versi yakni George Herbert Mead dan Herbert Blummer melalui interaksi karakter animasi dalam film Inside Out dan drama Yumi’s Cells. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakter animasi sel kecerdasan emosional yang digambarkan pada film Inside Out dan drama Yumi’s Cells mampu mendominasi representasi konsep interaksionis simbolik dengan memberikan visualisasi perasan dan emosi.Animation is not only about the presentation of 3D caricatures but also about something beyond the scope of aesthetics, such as Emotional Intelligence which is portrayed in the animated film Inside Out and South Korean drama series Yumi’s Cells. The animated emotional intelligence characters who ‘lives inside the human brain’ are visualized as communicating and interacting with each other, representing the concept of Symbolic Interactionism Theory. This qualitative research, with a conversation analysis approach, offered a new point about the relationship and sequence process in the formation of three concepts in symbolic interactionism theory from George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blummer through the interactions of the animated characters in the film Inside Out and drama Yumi’s Cells. The results of the study showed that the characters of animated cells with emotional intelligence in the animated films Inside Out and Yumi's Cells could dominate the representation of the symbolic interactionist concepts by visualizing emotions and feelings.

Abstract

Media relations penting bagi berbagai jenis perusahaan guna dapat memperoleh publisitas positif melalui media massa, utamanya bagi perusahaan yang baru merintis. Walau peran Public Relations merupakan aspek penting dalam pertumbuhan perusahaan yang baru merintis (startup), penelitian holistik tentang bagaimana startup dapat memanfaatkan Public Relations masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas secara lebih rinci tentang bagaimana konsultan Public Relations Kennedy, Voice Berliner (KVB) dapat berperan dalam aktivitas media relations sebuah startup properti-teknologi bernama Cove. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan merujuk pada konsep ilmiah media relations yang meliputi pengelolaan relasi, pengembangan strategi, serta pengembangan jaringan. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui hasil observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumen yang dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsultan Public Relations KVB berperan untuk melakukan follow-up rutin terhadap jurnalis dalam rangka mengelola relasi. Konsultan juga melakukan pengembangan strategi dengan menyusun pedoman komunikasi serta taktik berupa pemetaan media, siaran pers, konferensi pers, serta pemantauan media. Selain itu, konsultan juga turut memanfaatkan jaringan di organisasi usaha dan kehumasan internasional dalam menjalankan aktivitas media relations Cove. Media relations are essential for various companies to gain positive publicity through the mass media, especially for startups. Although the role of Public Relations is a crucial aspect amidst the growth of startups, holistic research on how startups can optimize the use of Public Relations remains limited. This study aims to discuss how Public Relations consultants from KVB (Kennedy, Voice Berliner) can manage the media relations activities of a property-technology startup called Cove. The research uses the qualitative method, referring to the three concepts of media relations; relationship management, strategy development, and network expansion. All data were obtained through observations, interviews, and document studies which were also descriptively analyzed. The study results indicate that the Public Relations consultants of KVB have a role in carrying out the routine follow-up of journalists to manage relations. The consultants also develop strategies by initiating communication guidelines and tactics. Moreover, consultants utilize KVB’s networks in business and international public relations organizations to implement Cove’s media relations activities.

Abstract

The discourse of the Sharia implementation in Aceh in the context of media places women as the most reported group. Serambi Indonesia is one of the local print media that has intensively covered the enforcement of Sharia in Aceh. This study aims to look at the discourse of Sharia enforcement in local media and how the female audiences as active audiences interpret the discourse conveyed by the media. The theoretical approach used in this study is Reception Analysis. This study is descriptive qualitative research. Data were collected using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotics on six news articles of Serambi Indonesia throughout 2014 and in-depth interviews with eight female informants who were selected by purposive sampling technique. The results of the study illustrated that the dominant discourse in the media was women in Aceh were prone to violate Sharia. Findings also documented the tendency of informants to occupy oppositional reading positions that the way Serambi Indonesia covered Shariain Aceh was more likely to discriminate against women.

Abstract

The concept of a smart city has an agenda to strengthen urban management through the use of information and communication technology. Related to that, the Malang City Government continues to be innovative and creative to support smart city program. One of the breakthroughs of the Office of Communication and Informatics of Malang City to support Malang Smart City program is by forming Forum of Public Information Group (KIM). The forum consists of people who are active in information sectors ranging from urban village to city levels. This study looks at the development of community human resources in the forum of KIM Kota Malang by using SWOT analysis, namely internal analysis (strengths and weaknesses) and external (opportunities and threats). The result of the research shows that KIM Forum of Malang City is an asset of Malang City Government that must be developed because it has a strategic role in bridging information from the city government to the urban community through effective communication skills. Human resource development strategy is needed to support Malang Smart City program.
