Abstract

Language plays a vital role in facilitating communication within diverse communities, enabling speakers to enhance their understanding and articulate insights, perspectives, and ideas effectively. In multilingual societies, individuals frequently alternate between languages to meet communicative demands—a phenomenon known as code switching. This study investigates: (1) the types of code switching utilized by the characters Anna and Kate in the film Melodylan, and (2) the underlying factors motivating such language alternation. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, this research examines the dialogue between the two characters. The findings reveal three types of code switching: inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and tag switching. Furthermore, six key motivations for code switching were identified: addressing specific topics, expressing empathy, using interjections, repetition for clarification, clarifying messages for the listener, and asserting group identity.

Abstract

The difference in language between one person and another is called variety. Variations in linguistic items include dialect, register and style. The register is various languages that depend on the occasion and social setting. Registers are usually known only to the people who use the words. Register relates to specific occupations and vocabulary. Therefore, this study aims to determine the terms categorized as registers used within the community, the linguistic forms used, and the motives used by army soldiers. This research utilizes a descriptive qualitative approach as it studies sociolinguistics, which deals with investigating linguistic forms (proposed by Morley) and motives (proposed by Hockett) of registers used in conversation. The study reveals that the Air Force army troops in the Serigala Langit Movie categorize several words and compound words as registers. Categorize the words as nouns and verbs for grammatical categories, and let them function as subjects, predicates, and objects in utterances. These registers are based on prestige motives and need fulfilment motives. Therefore, there will always be a motive behind the speakers' registers, depending on the occasion and the social setting

Abstract

The occurrence of chronic diseases is a predominant challenge in global public health. Chronic diseases have a high incidence; according to the 2021 study conducted by the Global Burden of Disease, chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes are included in the top five death risks in the world and are responsible for approximately 20% of global deaths. SBAR communication technique is the prioritized indicator for effective communication quality in patient safety goal (IPSG 2). Patient safety highly depends on the medical team’s action in decreasing unwanted incidence, which can be prevented by increasing effective communication through socializing SBAR communication. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of implementing SBAR communication in interprofessional collaboration (IPC) between doctors and nurses on patient safety. The research used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The respondents were 35 nurses and 35 doctor specialists according to the inclusion criteria with purposive sampling. The research instruments were SBAR communication questionnaires, with a validity value of CVI=0.87 and a reliability value of Cronbach’s Alpha=0.62. Data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Test. The results showed a significant difference in pre-post SBAR implementation scores between doctors and nurses (p=0.04; p<0.05). The research results showed that the Mean Rank was 18.00 for both doctor specialists and nurses, indicating that socializing SBAR communication could significantly change the mean rank value.
