Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of the policy of Dr. Rubini's biography as a source of learning history on the critical thinking skills of class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Tebas. The method used was an experiment with a Pre-Experimental Design design and data analysis using the swimmer test and the dependent sample t-test. The data sources in this study were history teachers, class XI students, and learning media. The results showed that the average pretest score of 54.83 was in the moderate category, while the average posttest score increased to 65.32 in the good category. The low initial ability of students was due to the low exploration of local values in history learning. After the application of Dr. Rubini's biography, there was a significant increase in critical thinking skills. The results of the t-test showed a significance value of 0.001 <0.05, which means that there is a significant influence of the application of the biography on students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

During the period of 1999-2019, the Nadran tradition in the Gunung Jati sub-district, Cirebon Regency, underwent various changes. This tradition, which comprises three processions Sedekah Laut, Sedekah Bumi, and Arak-arakan was the focus of a historical study aimed at understanding its meaning for the local community and its development over time. The research, which utilized primary and secondary sources along with historical methodology (heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography), found that the tradition faced several challenges, including disputes among participants, a lack of security, and limited funding. Despite these difficulties, the community continued to hold the Nadran tradition as a means of cultural preservation and an expression of gratitude.

Abstract

The teaching of history in Indonesia remains predominantly centered on national narratives, often disconnected from the lived cultural realities of students. This article introduces the “SEJARAH-HIDUP” model (Students Explore, Record, Aspire), pedagogical framework developed to revitalize history education through contextual, reflective, and community-based learning. Situated within the flexibility of the Kurikulum Merdeka, this model seeks to integrate local cultural heritage as a primary medium for historical inquiry and identity formation. This study employs a qualitative design based on an extensive literature review and triangulation of theories and sources. Findings indicate that the SEJARAH-HIDUP model not only bridges the gap between national curriculum design and students’ sociocultural contexts but also enhances historical consciousness and active citizenship. The model offers both theoretical advancement and practical guidance for integrating local narratives into transformative history education. This work contributes to the growing body of literature advocating for decolonized, place-responsive curricula in postcolonial education systems.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of hotels in Medan during the colonial period, not only as places of accommodation but also as centers of social and cultural activities. The research uses a qualitative method with a content analysis approach, intended to draw conclusions based on historical data while considering the socio-cultural context of the time. The findings reveal that colonial-era hotels in Medan played a significant role in social life, serving as venues for gatherings, parties, and events attended by various elite groups such as colonial officials, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. Although many of these hotels no longer exist, their architectural and historical legacy continues to influence the development of the hospitality industry in Medan today.

Abstract

Teachers as those in control of the learning process should implement an approach that fully supports students. However, learning is often teacher-centered leaving students passive, especially in advanced history subjects. This study aims to analyze the planning, implementation and assessment of advanced history learning at SMAN 1 Alalak using a constructivist approach. The research method is a qualitative case study with data collection techniques including interviews, observations and documents. The results show that teachers design plans that can make students active in learning. During the learning process, teachers act as facilitators and students construct knowledge based on their cognitive abilities and through social interactions with teachers and peers. Assessment of the learning process is carried out using formative and summative assessments to identify students' needs, development and learning outcomes. Based on this, the implementation of the learning process at SMAN 1 Alalak using a constructivist approach is running very well.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the activities and contributions of Abdul Muis in strengthening the Sarekat Islam, to describe the political landscape of Bandung during that period, and to explore its impact on the development of the organization as well as the local community. This research employs the historical method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through the stages of heuristics (source collection), criticism (source evaluation), interpretation (data analysis), and historiography (historical writing). The findings show that Abdul Muis played a central role in advancing Sarekat Islam in Bandung through his charismatic and strategic leadership. He succeeded in strengthening the organization by building networks, mobilizing the masses, and voicing resistance against Dutch colonial rule. Moreover, Abdul Muis’s contributions had a significant influence on raising nationalist awareness among the local community and shaping the political dynamics of Bandung during that period. This study is expected to enrich the understanding of the early history of Indonesia’s national movement and the role of key figures such as Abdul Muis in shaping socio-political dynamics.

Abstract

This study aims to explore forms of cultural acculturation between Hindu (Nyama Bali) and Muslim (Nyama Selam) communities in Tegallinggah Village, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency, Bali. The research employed a descriptive-historical qualitative approach through literature study, documentation of village archives, and narrative analysis. The findings reveal three main points. First, the arrival of Islam in Tegallinggah began in the 17th century when Bugis groups came to support Panji Sakti’s expedition and later settled in the area. Second, Subak Wingin serves as a functional example of acculturation in natural resource management by combining the Tri Hita Karana principles with Muslim social practices, fostering interfaith solidarity in irrigation governance. Third, Muslim marriage traditions in Tegallinggah integrate local Balinese vocabulary, symbols, and practices, such as the use of Malay pantun during courtship, the base tampin ritual during engagement, and the mepacar and metangas ceremonies. These practices reflect values of tolerance and respect for local customs passed down through generations. The study underscores that cultural acculturation in Tegallinggah is not merely passive tolerance but an active, everyday practice that shapes a unique hybrid cultural identity. The results are expected to contribute to the development of local history learning materials that promote pluralism and social harmony among students.

Abstract

The hot air balloon tradition in Wonosobo has evolved from a local pastime to a world-class cultural tourism festival, yet the Kretek District’s central role as a pioneer and guardian of this tradition remains largely unknown. This study aims to identify and analyze the history of Kretek in the development of the Wonosobo hot air balloon festival, describe the evolution of balloon flying practices over time, and document the individuals and communities who preserve the tradition. This study uses historical research methods. Although these methods generally rely on archives and written documents, this study gained important information from in-depth interviews with balloon flyers from the 1990s to 2008. These interviews not only serve as a complement to archival data but also serve as a primary source for understanding experiences, motivations, challenges, and innovations not formally recorded. The research reveals that Kretek has deep roots dating back to the Dutch era, inspired by the 1915 balloon landing, with Atmo Goper as a pioneer. This tradition has evolved significantly in materials, design (thanks to Mr. Kasuri and the “pendulum”), and ignition technique (the transition to coconut shells). Informal communities in Kretek preserve hereditary skills through collaboration.  At its peak, the 2005-2006 Wonosobo Balloon Festival was officially held, winning two MURI awards in 2006, confirming national recognition of this Kretek cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model using Pop-Up Book media in enhancing students' creativity in history learning at SMA Negeri 1 Gebog Kudus. The research is motivated by the need to create learning experiences that encourage active student engagement and the development of 21st-century skills, particularly creativity. A descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach was employed, involving a history teacher and students from class XI F-8 as the research subjects. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed using data triangulation techniques. The findings indicate that the implementation of PjBL with Pop-Up Book media effectively enhances the four indicators of student creativity: fluency in thinking, flexibility, originality, and idea elaboration. This suggests that the use of Pop-Up Book-based PjBL is a relevant and adaptable creative learning alternative across various educational levels and subjects.
