Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning activity of Grade X PBS students at SMK Bastren Nurussalam in history lessons through the use of Canva-based animated video media. Initial observations indicated that students showed low learning engagement, such as lack of attention, minimal participation in discussions, and weak analytical skills. Using Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted over two cycles, animated video media was implemented as an instructional innovation. The results revealed a significant increase in students' learning activity, marked by greater enthusiasm, active participation, and improved understanding of the material. Canva-based videos proved effective in presenting historical content in a more engaging and contextual way, aligning with the digital-native characteristics of today's students. Therefore, the use of Canva-based animated video media is recommended as an effective strategy to enhance the quality of history teaching in schools.

Abstract

This article discusses the Impact of Sugarcane Plantations on the Socio-Economic Life of the Community in Sungai Asam Village, Kerinci Regency 2000-2023. This article was written to analyze the Development of Sugarcane Plantations in Sungai Asam Village in 2000-2023 and its Impact on the socio-economic life of the community. This article uses a socio-economic history approach and uses the theory of agricultural involution developed by Clifford Geertz as an analytical tool to explain the subject matter. Then to analyze the problems in this thesis, historical research methods are used, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results of this study indicate that sugarcane plantations as the economy of the community in Sungai Asam Village and are the largest sugarcane plantations in Kerinci Regency, but have not been able to provide welfare for the lives of sugarcane farmers. The welfare of farmers depends on fluctuations in the price of sugarcane. This then creates the dynamics of farmers' lives in the community which is reflected in the level of community consumption.

Abstract

The need for transportation in the Cirebon region in the early twentieth century was primarily driven by the limited means of transporting plantation products, particularly sugarcane, to the port as the center of export distribution. At that time, the dominant mode of transport was the railway. Interestingly, since the 1900s Cirebon had two types of rail services, namely conventional trains and trams. Their existence not only accelerated the mobilization of plantation products but also reduced transportation costs, which had previously relied on traditional overland means. The role of the railway was highly significant for the sugar industry, as Cirebon was one of the key regions in the sugarcane plantation network in Java. However, the use of railways was not limited to sugar entrepreneurs. Over time, the railway network also served the mobility needs of the general population, both in terms of passenger transport and the shipment of other trade commodities. This study employs the historical method, which includes the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. This approach allows for a systematic examination of archival records, company reports, and colonial documents related to the dynamics of transportation in Cirebon. The findings reveal that the railway system in Cirebon was not only a vital infrastructure supporting the colonial plantation economy but also transformed into a public facility that accelerated urbanization, expanded local trade networks, and enhanced socio-economic mobility. Therefore, the railway in Cirebon played a dual role: as a key driver of the colonial plantation-based economy and as an instrument of transportation modernization that connected Cirebon with other regions in Java.

Abstract

The regional autonomy of Reformasi has given rise to regional identity issues, including restorations of historical sultanates. This paper aims to explain the use of Siak Sultanate legacy, from identity of Siak Regency to claims of new sultan of Siak. This research was conducted based on historical methods through literature exploration and interview. We found that the regency goverment of Siak has successfully utilize some of the sultanate legacy for identity and tourism, while the situation is more complex for the ‘Sultan’ of Siak. Kekerabatan Resam as ‘official representative’ of Siak sultanate has no declared restoration, while claims to a new sultan have emerged. The controversy centres on the ambiguity of lineage, power of Kekerabatan Resam, knowledge of traditions, and certain motives driving the restoration.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe a new learning model for teaching environmental history based on a sociocultural approach. This research employs a qualitative design, in which questionnaires were distributed to history teachers to collect data. The analysis process was conducted in three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result of this study is the development of a new learning model referred to as Environment Cultural Learning. This model has a syntax consisting of five stages: exploration, contextualization, application, collaboration, and reflection. The findings indicate that no specific model has previously outlined environmental history along with sociocultural values. Therefore, this study aims to provide an innovative learning model to support teachers. The Environment Cultural Learning model can be applied in the teaching of environmental history by exploring the environment and identifying sociocultural values that can be taught to students. This model consists of five stages: exploration, contextualization, application, collaboration, and reflection.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dynamics of transmigrant life in Ujung Batu Village IV, as well as the patterns of social interaction and economic changes experienced by these transmigrants. The method used in this study is a historical method through four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that the transmigration program in Ujung Batu Village IV, which began in 1982, was an effort to address overpopulation on Java Island and ensure equitable development. Despite facing various challenges such as a lack of initial information, minimal basic infrastructure, and difficulties in social and cultural adaptation, the program showed significant progress, especially after the implementation of the PIR-KKPA pattern. This pattern encouraged partnerships with plantation companies, opened access to productive land, provided training, and marketed crops, which directly improved the economic welfare of transmigrants. Furthermore, harmonious social integration occurs between ethnic groups through social interaction, education, and intermarriage, creating an independent and competitive community.

Abstract

This study examines the 1927 Silungkang Rebellion in a Historiographical Review. The historiographical review was conducted on three works specifically discussing the Silungkang Rebellion written by Indonesians. This study uses a content analysis method. This method is used to identify the content of an event. The results of this study from the three works studied show differences in the background and education of the authors. Some are academic writers and amateur writers, while in terms of education, some are elementary school graduates, Doctorates (S3), and high school. Based on these differences, they influence the resulting works, especially in writing and how the authors provide their views and interpretations of the work. In addition, in the work there are two eras: the author's era (the New Order and Reformation eras) and the war era, when the event occurred, which was the colonial era.
