Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of multimedia in improving the writing skills of descriptive texts of seventh grade students of SMPN 18 Makassar. The research used Classroom Action Research method.   The research subjects were the seventh grade students of SMPN 18 Makassar, totalling 32 students. The research data were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively to measure the effectiveness of the application of multimedia in improving students' writing skills. Qualitative analysis was used to understand the learning process and students' responses, while quantitative analysis was used to evaluate the improvement of students' learning outcomes through the comparison of scores between cycles. The results showed a significant improvement in students' description text writing skills from the first cycle to the second cycle. This improvement shows that the use of multimedia is effective in improving students' description text writing skills. Based on the results of the study, the use of multimedia is recommended to be widely applied in writing learning at junior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect of the application of image streaming method on the ability to write short stories of students in class IX SMP Negeri 13 Makassar. The type of research used in this study is pre-experiment. In this study, a pre experimental design model of one group pretest and postest design was used. The research sample was class IX A students totalling 30 students. The instrument used in this study was a short story writing ability test. The data collection techniques used by researchers were observation and short story writing tests on pretest and posttest. The research data analysis used descriptive statistics and inferential statistics which were analysed with the help of the SPSS version 29 application. The results showed that there was a significant effect in the use of image streaming method on the ability to write short stories of class IX students of SMP Negeri 13 Makassar. This is because the use of image streaming method is able to foster students' interest and creativity in writing short stories. The ability to write short stories of students before and after applying the image streaming method has increased significantly, namely the average student score before using the field trip method is 58.46 and after using the field trip method is 79.1.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write poetry with a contextual approach of class IX students of SMP Negeri 1 Makassar. This research is a Classroom Action research. The research subjects consisted of 40 students of class IX.2 SMP Negeri 1 Makassar. Data were collected through a poetry writing test, observation of student engagement, and interviews to find out students' responses to learning. Data were analysed quantitatively to measure the improvement of students' scores and qualitatively to understand changes in students' motivation and participation. The results showed that students in class IX.2 of SMP Negeri 1 Makassar could write poetry better with contextual learning method. This method successfully increased students' motivation and engagement. Their average score increased from 75 in cycle I to 85 in cycle II. By linking the learning materials with real world situations, students became more confident and creative in writing poetry.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Field Trip method on short story writing skills of grade IX students of MTs Hasan Yamani. The type of research used in this study is pre-experimental design. The sample taken was one class, namely class IX C MTs Hasan Yamani consisting of 24 students. The research instrument used in this study was a short story writing test. The data collection technique used was a test technique to obtain data on the effect of the Field Trip method on the short story writing skills of class IX students of MTs Hasan Yamani. The test of student learning outcomes is in the form of a test which includes a pretest and posttest. Data analysis in this study used two techniques, namely descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results showed that the Field Trip method significantly affected the short story writing skills of ninth grade students of MTs Hasan Yamani. This is because the application of the Field Trip method is able to foster students' interest and creativity in writing short stories. Students' short story writing skills before and after applying the Field Trip method experienced a significant increase. This is evidenced from the average student score before using the Field Trip method in learning to write short stories, which is 71.13 and after using the Field Trip method which is 80.17.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of learning outcomes in writing argumentation texts of SMA Negeri 5 Makassar students by using Kahoot gamification. This research is included in class action research. The data collected in the form of process data, including student activities and student argumentation text learning outcomes through the use of the Kahoot platform. The sample of this study were students of class IX.12 SMA Negeri 5 Makassar totalling 38 students.  The instruments used in this study included observation sheets of teacher and student activities, as well as student writing assignments. Data were collected at each stage of the research through tests, observations, and documentation. The data obtained were analysed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results of the research in cycle 1 were only 18.4%, namely 7 out of 38 students included in the complete category with a score of 75 and as many as 81.6% or 31 out of 38 students included in the incomplete category. Whereas in cycle II, the percentage of students and the percentage of students who were not complete decreased to 11 students or 19.5% while the percentage of students who were complete increased by 68.9%. This shows that the use of Kahoot gamification succeeded in creating a more interactive, competitive, and fun learning atmosphere. So that it can increase student involvement in learning to write argumentation text.

Abstract

This study aims to increase students' activeness in analysing the structure of observation report text through the application of Discovery Learning model at SMA Negeri 21 Makassar. The method used is Classroom Action Research with two cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collected from cycle I and II will be analysed using qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results showed that students' activeness increased significantly, seen from the percentage of aspects of asking questions (50% to 75%) and expressing opinions (33.3% to 66.7%). The average score of students' learning outcomes also increased from 68 in the first cycle to 80 in the second cycle, with the level of learning completeness reaching 83.3%. Reflection on each cycle showed that strategies such as the use of interactive media and reinforcement of instructions were effective in increasing learner activeness. Thus, the Discovery Learning model was proven effective in improving learner engagement and learning outcomes, and is relevant to be applied in 21st century learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse cultural structures in novels using Lévi-Strauss's structural anthropology theory, particularly the concept of binary oppositions such as life versus death, tradition versus modernity, and social obligations versus individual freedom. Using qualitative descriptive research methods, the analysis shows that tradition in this novel is not merely a tradition, but also a structure of thinking that is inherited and continuously negotiated. The results of the study show that custom and culture have an influence on an individual's personal life, as well as how social status can be influenced by custom and culture. The results also reveal several binary oppositions, ranging from the relationship between life and death, as well as custom and modernisation. Thus, this novel illustrates how culture is not static but continues to evolve within social dynamics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze news texts about the 2024 Election published by the Tempo.co Instagram account through Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis approach. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, focusing on experiential, relational, and expressive value in the text displayed. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques, and the validity of the data was tested through triangulation. The study results show that experiential value is evident from frequently repeated ideological vocabulary, metaphors, and lexical terms that convey complex meanings. Relational value is seen through formal and informal words, which indicate the social relationship between political actors and the audience. Meanwhile, expressive value is reflected in the positive and negative evaluations used in the text, describing the social and political identity of the figures reported. Through the process of text production and consumption, news on Tempo.co Instagram is interpreted differently by the audience, allowing for the formation of various perspectives in understanding current political issues. This study shows how election discourse on social media can create critical interpretations in society and shape public opinion.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the problematic reading literacy culture of SMPN 1 South Bontonompo students. The method used in this research is the field research method. This research utilizes qualitative data obtained from interviews with students. The data analysis technique in this research is Miles and Huberman's qualitative data analysis with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion and verification. The results of this study show that the problematic of literacy culture in the family environment is divided into 3 indicators, namely: Parents' education and economy are supporting and inhibiting factors. Reading material is one of the things needed in reading activities. Meanwhile, the problems of literacy culture in the school environment are divided into 4 indicators, namely infrastructure, reading materials, the role of teachers, and school policies.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of review text writing skills by using movie media of X SMA 21 Makassar students. The type of research used in this study is the Classroom Action Research method. The research subjects amounted to 36 students. The research instruments used included observation, interviews, and tests. The results showed an increase in each cycle. The percentage of completeness of learning outcomes in writing review texts in the pre-cycle value of 46% increased to 56% in cycle I. Meanwhile, in cycle II, the completeness of learning outcomes in writing review texts in the pre-cycle value was 46%. While in cycle II, the completeness of learning outcomes increased to 84%. This shows that the application of movie media improves review text writing skills in class X.10 SMA Negeri 21 Makassar students.
