Abstract

A hedonistic lifestyle that develops through social media and an algorithm-based digital system that encourages repeated consumption. This research aims to analyse how consumption practices in the digital economy can be categorised as isrāf and how Islamic consumption ethics can serve as an evaluative framework in responding to this phenomenon. This research uses a qualitative approach based on normative literature review with content analysis techniques and a hermeneutic approach. Data were obtained from scientific journal articles, academic books, as well as classical and contemporary Islamic literature from the period 2019–2025 that are relevant to digital consumption, hedonism, and Islamic consumption ethics. The research results show that digital consumption tends to be impulsive, symbolic, and influenced by algorithms, thus exceeding the limits of rational needs. This practice meets the characteristics of isrāf, both in terms of motives, patterns, and impacts. Furthermore, it was found that isrāf in the digital economy is not only individual in nature but is also influenced by social constructs and the structure of the digital system. This research concludes that Islamic consumption ethics, through the principle of moderation (wasathiyyah) and the framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, offer a relevant normative approach to controlling excessive consumption and building a more just and sustainable consumption pattern in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to examine cardless cash withdrawal transactions through mobile  banking and their role in increasing transaction intention in Islamic banking. Specifically, the research investigates the effects of perceived ease of use and perceived benefit on users’ intentions to conduct cardless cash withdrawal transactions using BSI Mobile among students at UIN Ar-Raniry in Banda Aceh. A quantitative research approach with an associative design was employed. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to 100 student BSI Mobile users, selected using a non-probability sampling technique with purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression method to test the proposed hypotheses. The results reveal that perceived usefulness has a positive and significant effect on users’ intention to conduct cardless cash withdrawal transactions via BSI Mobile. In contrast, perceived ease of use has no effect on transaction intention. These results provide valuable insights into the determinants of digital banking service adoption among university students, particularly in the context of Islamic banking.

Abstract

Not many studies systematically explain the combined impact of waqf and zakat on sustainable growth in the context of the halal creative economy, especially from the socio-economic side such as poverty alleviation, equal opportunity distribution, empowerment of halal creative SMEs, and their long-term impact. This research aims to synthesise empirical evidence from the literature regarding the influence of waqf and zakat on the socio-economics of the halal creative economy, as well as to identify the factors that strengthen or hinder their role in achieving sustainable growth. The method used is a literature review or systematic mapping. About 30 journal articles were selected based on inclusion criteria: publications between 2020–2025, containing discussions on waqf, zakat, halal creative economy, or sustainable growth. The results show that productive waqf and productive zakat can enhance the capacity of the halal creative economy through the provision of capital, access to financing, training and mentoring, and regulatory support. Digitalisation and institutional integration also emerged as important factors. As a main finding, it produces an integrative zakat-waqf model that maps the flow of resources from collection (nazhir/amil), productive distribution, to strengthening the capacity of halal creative economy actors (SMEs). This article is expected to contribute to theory and practice by offering a framework on how waqf and zakat can be maximised as instruments for inclusive and sustainable halal creative economy growth, as well as policy recommendations to overcome major obstacles.

Abstract

In predominantly Muslim areas like Mindanao, universities have failed to institutionalise the zakat system in their institutional processes. Based on the construction of Islamic social finance and institutional trust that connects religious awareness and clear governance with donor willingness, this paper measures the feasibility of implementing zakat funds at Mindanao State University (MSU). This need is very urgent because a large number of students require financial assistance and a significant number of community members are eligible to distribute zakat. Meeting the descriptive survey research design with 314 respondents through stratified random sampling via Google Forms and analysed using descriptive statistics and weighted mean. This study assesses the level of knowledge among MSU stakeholders regarding the level of knowledge of the beneficiaries and their willingness to receive that knowledge, leading to the identification of key factors for success. The researchers established the university community has a high awareness of the religious value of zakat, a religious attitude towards that value, and trust in the institution. Three key elements highlighted by respondents who support the idea of a zakat fund at MSU are that the fund manages the use of discretionary funds in Islamic banking responsibly, integrates digital technology, and collaborates with Islamic scholars. Finally, the research paper recommends that MSU needs to adopt a Sharia-compliant zakat management system with a high level of transparency to set an example for other government organisations, thereby generating programs that can help student welfare and advance Islamic giving practices towards educational equity across the Philippines.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the contribution of State Sukuk (SBSN) to the financing of sustainable development in Indonesia within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. The study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review and content analysis of academic literature and official government reports. The results of the study indicate that State Sukuk, as stipulated in Law No. 19 of 2008 on SBSN, has become a strategic instrument in financing the State Budget. Through the Project-Based Sukuk scheme, funds are allocated to tangible assets and real projects such as educational infrastructure, transport, and public facilities that support the achievement of the SDGs, particularly SDG 4, SDG 7, and SDG 13. The issuance of Green Sukuk since 2018 has further strengthened the commitment to a green economy and low-carbon development. Furthermore, from an economic perspective, State Sukuk contribute to capital formation and the expansion of the investor base, whilst socially they improve access to basic services and promote equitable development. The implications of this research suggest that strengthening regulations, governance and Islamic financial literacy is necessary to optimise the use of Government Sukuk as an instrument of sustainable development in Indonesia.

Abstract

The expansion of digital technology has revolutionized investment patterns, especially among millennials, who are known to be adaptable to innovation. Ease of access to investment also carries risks for those who do not yet understand financial products. The main factors influencing millennial investment behavior include financial literacy, digital education, religiosity, and risk perception. This study aims to analyze the influence of financial literacy, digital education, religiosity, and risk perception on millennial investment behavior in the digital era. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach with an associative explanation method. The study sample consisted of 150 millennial student respondents in Langsa City, Participants were chosen using purposive sampling. The data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed with multiple regression methods. The results showed that financial literacy and digital education had a positive but insignificant effect on investment behavior, suggesting that increased financial knowledge and access to digital education were not sufficient to significantly encourage investment decisions. Conversely, religiosity and risk perception were shown to have a positive and significant effect, meaning that the higher the level of religiosity and the better the understanding of risk, the greater the tendency of millennials to invest. Simultaneously, all four variables significantly influenced investment behavior. Research findings indicate that millennials' investment behavior is influenced not only by financial literacy and digital education, but also by religiosity and risk perception. Therefore, improving literacy, implementing digital education, and strengthening religious values and risk management are crucial for developing wise and sustainable investment behavior.
