Abstract

The research aims to explore the challenges Grade 8 students at KM/KM/Shams Central College face in learning English due to the influence of their mother tongue, Tamil. It seeks to identify how Tamil language structures, such as sentence order and phonetic features, interfere with English learning, and to examine sociocultural factors like attitudes, language anxiety, and exposure that affect motivation and success. The study also evaluates the impact of linguistic interference on grammar, pronunciation, sentence structure, and vocabulary. Finally, it aims to propose effective teaching strategies to minimize Tamil's influence and enhance English proficiency, with a particular focus on rural educational contexts. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative pretest and posttest assessments with qualitative data from structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with both students and teachers. The findings indicate that Tamil interference significantly contributes to challenges in English grammar and pronunciation, particularly in the misuse of articles, prepositions, and word order, as well as pronunciation errors involving sounds not found in Tamil. While the interventions implemented, such as task-based learning and pronunciation exercises, showed measurable improvements, sociocultural factors like anxiety and limited exposure to English outside the classroom remained barriers. The study concludes that effective English language acquisition requires addressing both linguistic interference and sociocultural challenges. Recommendations include incorporating communicative language teaching, increasing exposure to English in daily life, and providing professional development for teachers. Future research should explore the long-term impact of these strategies and the potential of technology in overcoming these challenges.

Abstract

This systematic review examines the ethical implications of ChatGPT in higher education, focusing on issues such as academic integrity, responsible AI use, and its impact on learning outcomes. A structured search of five major databases, following PRISMA methodology, identified 696 records, of which 44 studies met the inclusion criteria. The findings reveal that ChatGPT, while a powerful educational tool, raises significant concerns about plagiarism, reduced critical thinking, and uneven adoption across regions. Studies demonstrate that ChatGPT can enhance learning when used as a supplementary resource but poses risks when relied upon excessively. The review highlights gaps in current research, particularly the lack of longitudinal studies and limited evidence on regional variations in adoption. Limitations of the review process, such as the exclusion of gray literature and potential biases in self-reported data, are acknowledged. Despite these limitations, the review offers actionable insights, emphasizing the need for robust ethical guidelines, enhanced plagiarism detection systems, and educator training to promote responsible AI use. This paper contributes to the ongoing discourse on integrating AI in education by addressing its benefits and challenges. It calls for future research to explore long-term impacts and practical frameworks for ethical AI adoption, ensuring ChatGPT serves as a complementary tool rather than a disruptive force in higher education

Abstract

Research is a fundamental driver of academic growth, scientific innovation, and national development. However, aspiring young researchers in Bangladesh face significant barriers that hinder their engagement in scholarly activities. This study investigates the challenges encountered by high school and undergraduate students in Bangladesh in pursuing research, focusing on systemic, financial, and institutional obstacles. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from students through surveys and analyzed to identify key factors impeding research participation. The findings reveal that the primary challenges include a lack of mentorship, limited access to research resources, financial constraints, and insufficient institutional support. Furthermore, the study highlights a critical gap in students' awareness of research methodologies, academic publishing processes, and funding opportunities. A significant proportion of respondents expressed difficulty in obtaining guidance from teachers or academic institutions, with many unaware of how to publish their work in reputable journals. These barriers collectively discourage students from engaging in research, ultimately limiting the country’s academic progress. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical insights into the difficulties faced by young researchers in Bangladesh. The findings underscore the need for targeted policy interventions, including the integration of research training into curricula, financial support programs, mentorship initiatives, and improved access to academic resources. By addressing these challenges, educational institutions and policymakers can foster a research-friendly environment that nurtures the next generation of scholars.

Abstract

Guidance for prisoners is very important because the correctional system itself emphasizes reintegration where prisoners must have such good skills that when they return to society they can be well accepted by society. by having good enough skills this can be realized, one of which is by following the existing guidance program, one of which is the guidance program. To discuss the problems in this study, the information or data obtained can be adjusted to the existing theory, namely regarding the Evaluation of the Implementation of the guidance program in Prison. In the form of an effort to implement an independence guidance program, of course, an evaluation is needed to find out what obstacles make the guidance not run well. This study uses a research design in the form of a descriptive case study where all conclusions will be described in the form of a description that is linked to the theory and findings. The discussion in this study will basically discuss the results of the researcher's findings during the field to collect primary data in compiling a scientific paper in the form of a thesis. In order to conduct a discussion, the researcher briefly reviewed a problem in this study, namely the Evaluation of the Implementation of Furniture Independence Guidance for Prisoners in Manokwari Class IIB Prison. Furniture independence guidance is one form of guidance in Manokwari Class IIB Prison where the results of this guidance production can be used as income for Manokwari Class IIB Prison itself. However, in the implementation process, this furniture independence guidance program did not run well due to obstacles, so innovation is needed to make the implementation of this program run well in Manokwari Class IIB Prison.

Abstract

This study examines how cultural dimensions influence the acceptance and usage of educational technology in higher education, particularly in developing countries. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with 250 university students and qualitative interviews with 25 educators and students to explore the role of cultural factors such as power distance, collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, and digital readiness in technology adoption. The findings reveal that collectivist cultures demonstrate higher engagement with collaborative tools, while high power-distance cultures show reliance on authority figures for technology adoption. Additionally, digital literacy gaps and resistance to change hinder widespread implementation. These insights contribute to the theoretical refinement of technology acceptance models by integrating cultural variables and offer practical recommendations for policymakers and educators to design culturally responsive digital literacy programs. The study highlights the need for policies promoting inclusive and equitable access to educational technologies in diverse cultural settings. By addressing cultural barriers, this research advances the discourse on digital education and provides strategies to improve technology integration in higher education.

Abstract

Digital transformation has significantly altered the ways students in higher education engage with reading and writing, shifting from traditional practices to the widespread use of digital tools. This study investigates first-year university students’ attitudes toward literacy in the digital age, with a particular focus on the influence of technology on their reading and writing behaviors. Drawing on quantitative data from the Beginning University Survey of Student Engagement (BUSSE), the research explores how students adapt to academic demands and how digital platforms such as Learning Management Systems (LMS) and AI-based applications affect their literacy practices. The findings reveal that students increasingly prefer digital resources, including e-books, online databases, and AI-assisted writing tools, which they perceive as enhancing efficiency, accessibility, and engagement. However, the study also identifies challenges such as increased digital distractions, reduced critical reading depth, and concerns about the reliability and originality of AI-generated content. The paper concludes that while digital tools can enrich literacy experiences, there is a critical need for universities to foster a balanced approach that combines digital and traditional literacy instruction. Such integration will help students develop comprehensive reading and writing competencies suited to the evolving academic landscape.
