Abstract

Tuwed Village, located in Melaya District, Jembrana Regency, is known for its mekepung tradition, a daily activity of Subak Tamansari Puspa farmers. Buffaloes are used as the primary source of power for plowing rice fields and transporting crops. This study aims to formulate strategies, the role of the local community, and the implications for developing Mekepung as a sustainable, local wisdom-based tourist attraction in Tuwed Village, Jembrana. The Mekepung tradition, rooted in the Subak Tamansari Puspa agricultural system, originally served as a means of transporting crops and providing post-harvest entertainment, with buffalo having functional, social, and ritual value (Tumpek Kandang). The background of this study is the significant decline in the buffalo population and the potential erosion of this tradition due to agricultural modernization (the use of tractors). This necessitates strategic conservation efforts through ecotourism, including strategies for developing tourist attractions, community roles, and implications for the socio-cultural, economic, and environmental aspects of Tuwed Village. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, collecting data through direct field observation, in-depth interviews with Subak farmers, traditional leaders, and tourism stakeholders, and documentation studies. The research data indicates that the majority of Subak farmers revere buffalo, but are now shifting to modern technology. The study concluded that ecotourism development strategies should center on integrating Mekepung with the Subak system, organizing scheduled events, and developing derivative products. The key to sustainability is the active participation of the community as key actors. The implications of this development are positive, namely preserving the cultural and spiritual values of buffalo, diversifying incomes for farmers, and encouraging the conservation of buffalo populations and the Subak environment. Mekepung is transforming from a work tool into a sustainable cultural asset.

Abstract

River Tubing ecotourism is one of the tourist attractions at the Gatep Lawas destination managed by KUPS. River Tubing ecotourism is a tourist attraction that offers activities that are not usually carried out by tourists in general or tourism that requires courage or special interest to do it. As time went by, the Covid-19 pandemic hit Indonesia in 2020, so the River Tubing ecotourism attraction stopped and after the pandemic it started to be developed again. The analysis shows the potential for river tubing ecotourism at Gatep Lawas, which is categorized into three types: natural and man-made. Community participation in river tubing ecotourism development, from planning, implementation, management, and evaluation, has involved the local community, inviting them to participate in the management of Gatep Lawas. However, public awareness campaigns are still lacking, as only a small portion of the community understands the emerging tourism landscape. Analysis with the SWOT matrix produces SO (strength opportunity) strategy, namely optimizing the River Tubing ecotourism attraction, ST (strength threats) strategy, namely developing human resources, increasing the competitiveness of attractions, WO (weakness opportunity) strategy, namely providing education, training counseling on ecotourism or the tourism sector to the community, WT (weakness threats) strategy conducting comparative studies to attractions that have developed ecotourism in collaboration with travel agents and regional tourism offices. Key words: ecotourism, River Tubing, community

Abstract

Liang Bangkai Cave, located in Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, is a natural and cultural site with important historical and archaeological value for the development of sustainable tourism in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the potential, roles of the government and community, and development strategies for Liang Bangkai Cave as a local cultural heritage site and conservation-based educational tourism destination. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through field observations, in-depth interviews with the community, tourism managers, and the local government, as well as documentation studies from various related literature and archives. The results show that Liang Bangkai Cave has great geological and archaeological potential, such as natural stalactite and stalagmite formations and findings of ancient human artifacts that show traces of prehistoric life. However, this potential has not been optimized due to limited infrastructure, lack of promotion, and low community participation in tourism management. Therefore, the development strategy is directed at implementing the concept of eco-cultural tourism that emphasizes a balance between environmental conservation, cultural education, and local community empowerment. The government plays a role in policy, supervision, and infrastructure development, while the community is involved as the main actor in tourism management and promotion. With a well-planned and collaborative strategy, Liang Bangkai Cave has the potential to become a cultural tourism icon in South Kalimantan, not only improving the community's well-being but also preserving the nation's historical and cultural heritage.

Abstract

Pesarean Gunung Kawi offers a unique religious tourism experience that blends Javanese and Chinese culture. This place is known as a pilgrimage site not only for Muslims but also for the Chinese community. The long history of Pesarean Gunung Kawi has made it a tourist destination with a high level of religious tolerance. The cultural construction of this tourist destination is inevitable given the need to attract tourists. The dialectic between religious elements, imagination, and the active role of the local community has contributed to the survival of this tourist location until now. Using qualitative methods, this study began with participant observation of several cultural activities there. It was also supported by in-depth interviews with three key informants to strengthen the data to be explored. The results of the study show that traditions are not only preserved but can also be dynamically constructed into tourist attractions. The religious values embraced by the local community are combined with mystical narratives that shape the collective imagination. This imagination is manifested in rituals such as ngalap berkah. Rituals and imagination then become tourist commodities that attract pilgrims to come. The local community also plays an active role in creating a space for negotiation where spiritual values are related to the logic of tourism. This is not only to satisfy the imagination of tourists but also to sustain the local economy. The results of the study are expected to provide new dynamics on how culture is not a fixed relic but a process that is continuously negotiated by the community without diminishing the meaning or value of the culture itself.

Abstract

TripAdvisor is a widely used digital application for tourists to access information on destinations, accommodations, and travel experiences. User reviews on the Google Play Store reflect direct perceptions of the application, making them a valuable source for evaluating user satisfaction. This study analyzes 493 tourism-related reviews using a text mining approach, including text preprocessing and sentiment classification. The results show a dominance of positive sentiment, primarily related to ease of use, completeness of information, and the effectiveness of search features. Negative sentiment appears less frequently and is mainly associated with account issues, transactions, and refund processes. These findings indicate that user satisfaction is more influenced by the quality of service and application features than by the tourism destinations themselves. The study provides insights for application developers and offers a systematic understanding of tourist perceptions toward digital tourism applications.

Abstract

The global shift towards slow tourism demands destinations to offer authentic and meaningful experiences. Gorontalo Province holds immense potential for spiritual tourism, yet its management lacks optimal integration. This study aims to analyze the influence of integrating religious rituals and local tradition values on spiritual tourism attraction. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-method design, a survey was conducted on 200 tourists and analyzed using multiple linear regression, complemented by in-depth interviews with customary leaders. Empirical results demonstrate that religious rituals and local traditions have a positive and significant effect on spiritual tourism attraction, both partially and simultaneously. These findings imply that integrating spiritual values is a core element to strengthen tourism branding, increase the length of stay, and ensure the sustainability of Gorontalo's cultural heritage amidst modernization

Abstract

Indonesia, as an archipelagic country, possesses abundant intangible cultural heritage, including folklore transmitted orally across generations. This study aims to analyse the existence of the Jayaprana Layonsari folklore and its contribution to enhancing cultural tourism in West Buleleng, Bali. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through literature review, observation, interviews, and documentation at the Jayaprana Shrine in Teluk Terima. The findings reveal that the Jayaprana Layonsari folklore remains embedded in the collective memory of Balinese society and has undergone a transformation from oral tradition into a structured cultural tourism attraction. The narrative embodies local wisdom values such as loyalty (satya), sacrifice, moral integrity, social criticism toward abuse of power, and the concept of cosmic balance in Balinese Hinduism. The transformation of folklore into a tourism asset is manifested through the sacralization of space, interpretative storytelling, and cultural performances. Furthermore, this folklore contributes to strengthening destination identity, diversifying tourism products, empowering local communities, and supporting sustainable tourism development. Therefore, the Jayaprana Layonsari folklore functions not only as intangible cultural heritage but also as a strategic foundation for identity-based tourism development in West Buleleng.
