Abstract

In this study, the healthy impacts of environmental and emitted pollutants from the recycling plastics factories in the Right Bank district of Mosul City were investigated. Urine and blood samples were collected from workers who exposed to these pollutants. Some of physiological and biochemical tests have been achieved which including Blood Pressure, Hb (Hemoglobin), PCV, ESR, blood urea, serum total protein, serum total cholesterol, serum triglycerides, ALT (GPT) and AST (GOT). Also, General Urine Examination has been performed. All results were compared with 20 unaffected persons as a control group. The results of the current study showed significant differences in some testes compared with the control group. Hemoglobin increased to ‏17.00 g/dl in the workers which had >20 years-work compared with the control (14.00 g/dl). Furthermore, PCV have a significant increase ranging from 55.53% to 90.53% in workers who have <10, 11-20 and >20 years-work. Blood Urea recorded highest value ‏50 g/dl for workers >20 years-work, while declined to the lowest value 37 g/dl in case <10 years-work. Also, liver enzymes (Aspartate Transaminase and Alanine Transaminase) were recorded slight increase reached to 13.3 and 6.6 IU/dl respectively. In addition, General Urine Examination exhibited various kinds of cells besides highest percentages of Calcium Oxalate, pus cells, amorphous and RBC (Red Blood Cells) reached to 40.85%, 13.85%, 8.71% and 3.85% respectively.Keyword: Emitted pollutants; Plastics wastes; Biological & chemical effects; Damage enzymes.

Abstract

Introduction: Dermatophytes fungi are the predominant source of skin, hair, and nails infection. The present study was carried out to identify and characterize the species of dermatophytes. Material and Methods: Predicated upon the convectional methods such as morphological and microscopic features, culture and biochemical techniques along with growth comparison on Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA). Two species of fungi belonging to genera Trichophyton and Microsporum were culled to pursue ITS predicated PCR amplification of their genetic profile.  Results: The results of PCR amplification have shown that the ITS region, including 5.8S was successfully amplified by utilizing ITS1 and ITS4 as a primers. The amplicon size of dermatophytes species appeared in between 680-720bp, four isolates of T. rubrum and one isolate of M. gypseum were recorded in various regions of the patients bodies. Other fungi (non dermatophytes) such as Geotrichium candidaus, Candida albicans, Pencillium nutatum, Alternaria alternata, Aspergilus niger and Fusarium sp. were also observed on the infected human body with amplicon size in the range of 350-590 bp. Conclusion: These results have suggested not only a valuable baseline to identify pathogenic fungi but additionally emphasizes on future efforts toward the obviation of dermatophytic infections in our region.Keywords:  Identification, Trichophyton, Macrosporu   m, Dermatophyte mycosis.

Abstract

The current study was conducted to estimate the chemical composition of the muscles of different regions in the body of the studied fish to assess the nutritional value of their muscles .The fish studied included two species of teleosts fish belonging to the Mugilidea family ; Greenback mullet , Planiliza subviridis (Valeneciennes , 1836) and Abu mullet , Planiliza abu (Heckel, 1843).The components of the chemical composition of the muscles included: protein, fat, moisture and ash as well as to estimate the nutritional value (energy) of both protein and fat content. Samples were collected from the Qurna market - north of Basra - Iraq in August / 2018.The results showed differences in the values of the chemical composition of the muscles of the two studied species. The values of protein content ranged between 20.54 - 20.10% and 19.53-18.32% in P. subviridis and P. abu respectively, while the lipid content values ranged between 3.76-5.76% P .subviridis while ranged between 5.43- 7.72% in P. abu. The moisture content had higher values ranging between 71.08 - 70.17% and 71.84 - 70.17% in P. subviridis and P.abu respectively while the ash content ranged between 2.57 - 2.30% and 2.80 - 2.55% in P. subviridis and P. abu Respectively. The results showed that total energy value in P. subviridis were 124.12KCal / g compared to P. abu which recorded 134.9 kcal / g .The statistical results indicated positive relationship between fish weight and protein , lipid and ash content in the studied fish, while there was an inverse relationship between moisture content and fish weight in the studied species. The statistical results showed no significant differences P>0.05 between the protein, moisture and ash content in two body regions in the studied species, while revealed significant differences P<0.05 in lipid content in the studied fish.Keywords: Planiliza subviridis, Planiliza abu, Fish muscles, Chemical composition.

Abstract

PMMA films with various content of MnCl2 additive (1, 3%) are prepared by casting method. Amorphous films of PMMA-Mn are examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD). UV-Visible spectrophotometer is used to record the transmittance spectra, which decreased with the increasing of MnCl2. Energy gap value decreased from 3.91 eV for PMMA to 3.39 eV for film with 3% additive of MnCl2, while the Urbach energy are increased from 555 meV to 741 meV for the same additives. Dispersion parameters are determined using Wemple and DiDomenico model. The Ed, Eo, and So increased with the increasing of MnCl2 additive, while n (0), λo, and M-1, M-3 are decreased.Keywords: PMMA, Dispersion parameters, Composite, Optical properties.

Abstract

Children are characterized as healthy when they grow and develop adequately. This is determined through age-appropriate ideal height and weight measurements. This study aimed to quantify the prevalence of stunting among 10-year old children. This observational study had a cross-sectional design. This descriptive research was conducted from October to November 2019 using a total sample of 392 children obtained through the multistage proportional sampling to select participants from the student in 19 first elementary school in the study area. The anthropometric measurements of height were taken using a microtoice. The measurement results were compared with the World Health Organization (WHO) AntroPlus 2007 standards for 10-year old children. Height was measured using standard methods and height for age and the z-score was computed to assess stunting. The hypothesis test was done using ANOVA. The prevalence of stunting among 10-year old children in central Sulawesi, Indonesia is 24.7%. Poso's district has the highest percentage at around 35.9%, Donggala district is around 35.7%, Sigi district is around 16.5% and Palu City is around 12.5%. The highest mean for height was found in Palu City at 135,7 cm and the lowest was in Donggala district at 129,9cm. ANOVA showed a significant value of <0.001 with z-scores of -0.72, -1.63, -1.45 and -1.09 in Palu City, Donggala District, Poso and Sigi respectively. The prevalence of stunting in Central Sulawesi for children aged 10 years old is 24.7%. Donggala and Poso district have the highest prevalence of stunting. Some strategies need to be executed in order to improve the level of nutrition of elementary school children. This can be done by providing safe and hygienic school canteens, promoting healthy food diversity, encouraging more fish consumption and other healthy protein ingredients.Keywords: Children, South Sulawesi, stunting.

Abstract

Manpower is considered as one of the basic and important resources of organizations. In order to reach their goals, organizations need specialized and committed human force to achieve their goals. Therefore, one of the most important duties of organizations regarding the management of human resources is manpower maintenance. To this end, the present study has aimed to investigate the effect of organizational justice and its dimensions on manpower maintenance in Birjand University of Medical Sciences. The present study is an applied research in terms of its objective and it is a descriptive survey in terms of its data collection method. The statistical population of this research has been composed of the employees of Birjand University of Medical Sciences. 150 of these employees were selected as the research sample using the judgmental sampling method. In order to test the hypotheses, the Pearson correlation coefficient and the multivariate regression analysis were used. The results obtained from the Pearson correlation coefficient showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between organizational justice and manpower maintenance (r=79.3). Also, the results of multivariate regression analysis have shown that interactive justice, procedural justice and distributive justice variables have been able to separately explain 50.3, 30.5 and 20.6 percent of the scores of the maintenance system, respectively. In other words, among the components of organizational justice, interactive justice has had the most substantial impact on manpower maintenance and distributive justice had the least substantial effect on it in the population under study.Keywords: Organizational justice, Procedural justice, Distributive justice, Interactive justice, Man power management.

Abstract

One type of the liver poisoning is poisoning with carbon tetrachloride. Carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage is related to the toxic agent which is metabolized by the NADPH-cytochrome P450 enzyme system to reactive radicals including trikler and methyl- o- proxyler. One of the available remedies to protect liver is the use of medicinal plants. Since in Iran liver protective drugs are less available, then the use of available natural remedies that have fewer toxic side effects than chemical drugs seems necessary. In the present study, medicinal plants native to Iran have been reviewed and reported which have liver protective effect against toxicity induced by carbon tetrachloride as a factor causing human poisoning. In this review study, literatures were searched with key words including liver toxicity, carbon tetrachloride, herbs, extracts, and essential oils. The papers were searched from databases inside and outside Iran including Google Scholar, SID, MegaIran databases, and a number of other databases. Based on the results, medicinal herbs such as grape, oak, Aucheri, pistachio, Fumaria, and milk thistle are anti-poisoning plamts against carbon tetrachloride. Since the active ingredients of the mentioned plants have been specified in the phytochemical studies, then catechin, epi-catechins, epi-3-gallate catechin, mucilage, calheritrin, fumaric acid and an alkaloid called fumarinkoerist, and nitrose amine are probably the active ingredients against carbon tetrachloride poisoning.Keywords: liver, Poisoning, Carbon tetrachloride, Herbs, Iran
Divergent Genetic Selection for Body Weight at Four Weeks Age in Japanese Quail M. A. Fadhil

Abstract

Objective: The study conducted to measure the selection response of divergent genetic selection for body weight at four weeks age and its effects on other traits. Materials and methods: The experimental flock consist of 300 one day old chicks of black Japanese quail variety which divided into two groups, the first group (100 chicks) represents the control, and the second group (200 chicks) represents the base population for divergent selection. The selection procedure performed by select 30 females and 15 males for each of highest body weight (HBW) and lowest body weight (LBW) at four weeks of age, and the control line (CL) leaved without selection. The eggs of each line incubated to get the first generation, and the hatching procedure replicated three times. Results: The results showed that the average body weight at four weeks of age of unsexed birds, males and females for the base population 124.52, 129.89 and 127.21 gm. respectively. The average body weight at four weeks of age in the first generation for unsexed birds, males and females in the HBW line 147.60, 145.29 and 150.59 gm. respectively, and for LBW line 122.42, 120.26 and 125.25 gm. respectively. The selection response in the HBW group for unsexed birds, males and females 20.39, 20.77 and 20.70 gm. respectively, and for LBW line -4.80, -4.27 and -4.64 gm. respectively. There is significant difference between HBW and LBW in the body weight at six weeks of age while there is no significant difference between HBW and CL. Conclusion: There is significant improvement in HBW at six weeks can be achieved by selection for HBW at four weeks, and the natural selection assist the selection for HBW.Keywords: Japanese quail, Divergent selection, Body weight, Selection response, Realized heritability.

Abstract

Objective: Baldness (Alopecia) is a serious problem at this time because it is caused by stress, genetic factors, pregnancy, inadequate hair care, and less balanced nutrition. Previous studies have shown that ethanol extracts of Wera leaves (Malvaviscus arboreus) have anti-baldness properties. Research study was undertaken to investigate the potential of chemical compounds contained in the leaves of Wera as hair growers using androgen receptors with comparative drugs Minoxidil. Methods: This type of research is in silico where the results obtained are free energy values and hydrogen bonds that connect ligands with receptors. Results: From the 7 compounds contained in the Wera leaf, the results showed that trifolin compounds gave the lowest energy -7.08 kcal/mol and amino acids that were bound were Thr (877), Asn (705), and Phe (764) where more than the comparative drug Minoxidil namely Leu (873) and Asn (705) with free energy is -5.81 kcal/mol. In predicting pharmacokinetic properties and toxicity tests, compounds that are predicted as candidates for hair growth drugs do not meet pharmacokinetic parameters and are non-mutagenic and not carcinogenic so they cannot be administered orally. Conclusion: It is found that molecules with compounds 2- [2- (5-methyl-2-propane-2-ylphenoxy) ethoxy] naphthalene-1-carboxylate provides the lowest energy, which is -9.47 kcal/mol so that it has the potential to be a candidate for a new drug in the treatment of hair growth, namely alopecia either oral or topical usedKeywords: Wera leaves, In-Silico, Hair growers, Androgen receptors, Malvaviscus arboreus.

Abstract

Introduction: Many previous studies have shown that noise intensity in weaving of the textile industry exceeds TLV (> 85dBA) which is difficult to avoid and impossible to reduce. Employees who are exposed to noise and do not use PPE with a long duration of exposure will get an effect in terms of both physical and psychological health. This results in a decline in their performance. This study aims to examine the social aspects of the workplace (social capital), social aspects of the family (family support), and the attitude of employees towards PPE to the performance of those working in weaving exposed to high intensity noise for a long time through work stress. Methods: This study used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The location of this research was the textile industry of PT Dan Liris in Banaran, Grogol, Sukoharjo, Central Java. The population of this study was 343 employees working in the weaving department of PT Dan Liris, who met the criteria. The sample size was 170, taken by proportional simple random sampling technique. Exogenous variables in this study included: social capital, family support, employee attitudes toward PPE, and work stress. Endogenous variables in this study included: employee performance, social capital variables, family support, employee attitude towards PPE, work stress, and performance which were measured using a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using path analysis. Results: There was a positive direct effect between social capital and employee attitudes towards PPE on employee performance, meaning that the social environment of employees who had good social capital could improve their performance by 0.085 points. In addition, good employee attitude towards PPEcould also improve their performance by 0.376 points. Keywords: Social capital, Employee Attitude towards PPE, Performance
