Abstract

Rice seed is considered one of the important elements in optimizing yields in rice cultivation. The increasing demand for certified rice seeds is one of the factors that facilitated the emergence of rice seed breeding partnerships between farmers and rice seed-producing companies. One of the partnerships to produce certified rice seeds is a partnership between PT Saprotan Benih Utama and the Rukun Tani Sulur Farmer Group. The partnership does not continue because there is no explicit agreement or contract farming between partner farmers and the company. This study aimed to determine the dynamics of partnerships and strategies for building partnerships to determine a sustainable partnership model in rice seed breeding farms. This research was conducted from January to June 2024 in Blimbing Village, Sambirejo District, Sragen Regency, Central Java Province. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and focus group discussions. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model, and partnership strategy was identified using SWOT analysis. The informants used in this study were seven people. The results showed that the rice seed breeding partnership dynamics that occurred between the Rukun Tani Sulur Farmer Group and PT Saprotan Benih Utama was in the form of an Agribusiness Operational Cooperation (KOA) pattern. Partner farmers provide land, inputs, and labor, while PT Saprotan Benih Utama provides costs and facilities. The strategy to build partnerships from the research results requires the application of SOPs and assistance to increase productivity and purchase price agreements for farmers. A written cooperation contract is needed to strengthen the partnership between farmers and companies so that both parties know their obligations and rights.

Abstract

This study fully reveals the role of women in rainfed rice farming in Setiris Village, Maro Sebo District. This study aimed to determine the picture of rainfed rice farming in Setiris Village, Maro Sebo District, as well as the role of women in agriculture and the variables that influence this role. A total of 25 respondents from 2 farmer groups participated in the survey conducted in January and February 2024. A total of 10 respondents came from Lopak Serapil and 15 from Tanjung Harapan. The factors studied were the number of family dependents (X1), planting area (X2), farming experience (X3), side jobs (D1), female farmer toddlers (D2), and female labor contribution (Y). Multiple Linear Regression using SPSS 26 software was the analysis instrument used. According to the research results, in Setiris Village, Maro Sebo District, rainfed rice farming activities include land preparation, planting, fertilizing, weeding, harvesting, controlling pests and plant diseases, and seeding. Female labor provides 41.69 HOK/planting season, or 81% of the total working hours, with planting area, farming experience, and family responsibilities being the main influencing factors. Based on multiple linear regression analysis, all of these factors simultaneously affect the contribution of women's work, with a significance value of f-statistic 0.000 smaller than ⁰ = 0.05 (<0.05). However, the significance values for the variables number of family dependents (0.002), planting area (0.005), and farming experience (0.021) are all smaller than ⁰ = 0.05 (<0.05). Thus, the contribution of female labor to rainfed rice farming in Setiris Village, Maro Sebo District, is influenced by these factors.

Abstract

The plantation subsector is one of the agricultural industries that contributes significantly to the national economy. Since practically every component of sugar palm plants may provide income, they have a vast economic potential. Palm sugar marketing in Margamulya Village has a central problem: the large number of marketing channels, which results in low incomes for palm sugar craftsmen. This research aims to determine marketing channels and the marketing efficiency of palm sugar in Margamulya Village, Cisompet District. This research uses a survey method and method with data collection techniques of observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis uses quantitative description by analyzing marketing channels, marketing margins, farmer's share, and marketing efficiency. The research results show five marketing channel patterns in Margamulya Village. The lowest marketing margins are in channels I and II, with a total margin of Rp. 3000. Channel I involves one marketing institution, collectors, while channel II involves retailers. The highest farmer's share is in marketing channel II, with a percentage of 83%. The most efficient marketing channel is channel II, which has an efficiency value of 1.7%. Marketing efficiency analysis shows that the five marketing channels in this research are considered efficient. This research also reveals that all marketing channels have a farmer's share value, which is at the efficient criteria with a farmer's share value of >50%, causing lower costs and more efficiency in the marketing channel.

Abstract

Dynamic price interconnections and external market influences characterize the global crude palm oil (CPO) market. As the world's largest producer, Indonesia faces challenges in stabilizing prices amidst regulatory pressures from European markets and the significant role of India as a key export destination. This study aims to analyze the integration and dynamics of Indonesian CPO prices with European and Indian markets using advanced econometric tools, including Vector Auto Regression (VAR) and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Monthly price data from January 2016 to December 2022 were sourced from reliable databases such as BAPPETI and UN Comtrade. The findings highlight significant price volatility in the Indonesian spot market (CV = 46.18%) compared to Europe (CV = 39.22%) and India (CV = 29.74%), with the latter serving as a stabilizing force. Granger causality tests reveal mutual influence between Indonesia and Europe, while India's unidirectional causality underscores its role in mitigating external shocks. Cointegration analysis confirms long-term equilibrium relationships among the markets, with European and Indian markets contributing 33.61% and 29.35%, respectively, to Indonesian price variability over 12 months. These insights emphasize the importance of establishing a domestic futures market to manage volatility and diversifying export destinations to reduce reliance on traditional markets. This study provides actionable recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders to strengthen Indonesia's resilience and competitiveness in the global CPO market.

Abstract

The dynamics of the agricultural sector's contribution to Indonesia's GDP fluctuate annually, with an increase of 13.70% in 2020 but a decrease in 2021 and 2022 13.28%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between social welfare influenced by social capital in the form of trust, networks, and norms. Research data used a mixed method, a combination of quantitative and qualitative data, conducted by primary data and analyzed each other separately. The multiple linear regression test analyzed quantitative data, while qualitative data was described in-depth. The research instrument used a questionnaire consisting of five Likert scales as a measurement for each variable and interviews to look more deeply at the relationship between social capital and social welfare. The data was determined purposively to shallot farmers in four sub-districts, Gondang, Rejoso, Sukomoro, and Bagor, considering that the highest shallot production was in that area. The data was tested for validity and reliability, and then multiple linear regression tests and classical assumption tests were continued. The results show that trust has no significant effect on farmers' welfare. The same thing also happened to the norm, which did not significantly influence farmers' welfare partially. However, it is different with networks that partially influence the welfare of shallot farmers. Simultaneously, trust, norms, and networks influence the welfare of shallot farmers. The implication of this research is designing an empowerment program that focuses on strengthening social capital among shallot farmers, such as a training program for young farmers as farmers group union (Gapoktan) facilitators and the preservation of independent field extension officers (PPL swadaya) from local farmers to provide knowledge to farmers around them.

Abstract

Fluctuations in shallot prices have a significant impact on farmers and other stakeholders. In this context, farmers are often the biggest losers due to price instability, as they have no control over the timing of their product sales, which means they cannot take advantage of more favorable prices during price spikes. On the other hand, price fluctuations affect not only farmers' income but also their farming decisions. Understanding this phenomenon is crucial for policymakers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector to mitigate risks and improve food security, especially for shallot farmers. This study aims to analyze how much price fluctuations and price disparities of shallots occur in East Java and which areas should be the primary concern due to such high fluctuations. To investigate this, disparity analysis using convergence models and price fluctuation analysis using the coefficient of variation (CV) approach were used. This study found that shallot price fluctuations in East Java are highest in the Nganjuk Regency. Interestingly, Nganjuk Regency is the center of shallot production in East Java. In addition, it was also found that areas bordering Nganjuk Regency, such as Madiun Regency, Bojonegoro Regency, Ponorogo Regency, and Pacitan Regency, experienced relatively high price fluctuations. The value of disparity based on the coefficient in the regression model of shallot price comparison in Indonesia shows a value of β < 1. This means that the level of shallot price fluctuations in East Java tends to be high, as evidenced by the CV value in most areas, which is classified as high.

Abstract

Organic vegetables are highly sought-after products due to their reputation for being free from harmful chemicals and not using pesticides or synthetic fertilizers in their cultivation process. Although organic vegetables are considered healthier and more environmentally friendly, the purchase rate by Indonesian consumers is still relatively low. One of the factors that influences the low level of purchase of a product or service by consumers in Indonesia is purchase intention. This study aimed to examine the purchase intention of Indonesian consumers using the theory of planned behavior and the theory of consumption value. The lack of integration between these two theories in analyzing the purchase intention of organic vegetables in previous studies presents a new opportunity to combine both theories for a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the purchase intention of organic vegetables in Indonesia. Data collection was conducted from June to August 2023 using accidental sampling by distributing questionnaires via Google Form, which yielded 365 respondents, all supermarket visitors in the Jabodetabek area. The collected data were then analyzed using SPSS 26 with multiple linear regression analysis. The study's results indicated that attitudes toward organic vegetables, perceived behavioral control, functional value, and novelty value significantly influence the purchase intention of organic vegetables. Meanwhile, subjective norms, emotional value, social value, and conditional value were found to have no significant impact on the purchase intention of organic vegetables.

Abstract

The production of tempe is the most prevalent small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia. The popularity of tempe among Indonesians is closely linked to its health benefits. The high consumption rate of tempe indicates significant potential for the industry, particularly for SMEs involved in its production. A home-based tempe business in Tambak Beras Village, Jombang Regency, exemplifies such an SME. Despite its considerable potential, observations reveal that the business faces several challenges, including the absence of a governing institution or agency, poor financial management, and a labor shortage. This study uses SWOT analysis to formulate an appropriate development strategy for tempe production in Tambakberas Village, Jombang Regency. The research employs descriptive and quantitative methods to analyze development strategies for tempe SMEs. The data was collected in 2024 in Jombang Regency. The purposive sampling was used to select the study sample. Data was collected by observation and interviews. Then, the data was analyzed using SWOT analysis and the EFAS and IFAS matrix. The results showed that the tempe in Tambakberas Village, Jombang Regency, holds a strong internal position with an internal key factor score of 1.10. The EFAS matrix analysis reveals an external key factor score of 1.55, indicating that the business is well-positioned to capitalize on opportunities while managing industry threats. Based on the IE matrix derived from the EFAS and IFAS matrices, the tempe business in Tambakberas Village is located in Quadrant I. This positioning suggests that an aggressive strategy is recommended to foster growth, given that the Tempe business has internal strengths that align with external opportunities. The research implies that the home industry needs to improve Human Resources competency, optimize financial management, and expand the tempe business.
