Abstract

The use of chemical preservatives in animal food products can cause health problems. So it needs natural preservatives that can be used as an alternative to prevent food product’s damage. Kombucha fermentation produces acetic acid which can inhibit microbial growth so it can used as natural preservatives of food product. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of kombucha tea to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi in animal food products. This research is an experimental study using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were P1 (kombucha fermentation for 6 days), P2 (kombucha fermentation for 12 days), P3 (kombucha fermentation for 18 days), and P4 (22 days kombucha fermentation). The research data were analyzed using One Way Annova and further tested using Least Significant Different (LSD). The results showed that fermented kombucha tea can inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi in animal foods. The treatment that shows most strongly inhibited the growth of bacteria and fungi was kombucha tea which was fermented for 22 days.

Abstract

Imidacloprid is a synthetic chemical compound used as an insecticide product. Despite the benefits that insecticides provided in controlling plant pests and increasing crop yields, the use of insecticides was associated with side effects in humans The purpose of this study was to evaluate the active ingredient of imidacloprid 200 g/l in an insecticide formulation to ensure the safety of the pesticide for the applicator. This study was conducted based on appropriate toxicological tests and assessment based on pre-clinical tests in the form of evaluation of irritation and sensitization. The method used was descriptive quantitative based on the OECD 404, 405, and 406 guidelines for albino New Zealand rabbits and adult Dunkin Hartley albino guinea pigs. The results showed that the imidacloprid compound did not cause irritation symptoms in the eyes (cornea, iris, conjunctiva, and chemosis) and skin (erythema and edema) with a score of zero (0). In addition, the results of the sensitization test at a concentration of 12.5 - 100% did not show the formation of erythema which was indicated by a score of zero (0). In conclusion, imidacloprid 200 g/l did not caused irritation and sensitivity reactions in test animals so this compound is safe to use as an insecticide.

Abstract

Quail (Coturnix-coturnix japonica) is a type of poultry that can be cultivated commercially because it has relatively fast growth and high productivity. Black Soldier Fly (BSF) is an insect that can be used as an alternative feed for quail in the form of flour because it contains high protein and fat which is friendly too for the environment. This study aims to determine the differences in the proximate content of each treatment; determine the difference in growth speed performance through the parameters of Initial Weight (IBW) and Final (FBW), Average Weight Gain (ABWG), and Body Length, determine differences in feed consumption parameters and feed conversion ratio (FCR) to weight gain; and determine which treatment yields the best performance for quail growth. This study used 80 quail with a feed composition of treatment A (100% commercial), B (25% BSF + 75% commercial), C (50% BSF + 50% commercial), D (75% BSF + 25% commercial), and E (100% BSF). The data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 software. The results showed that the highest proximate characteristics of water content, crude protein, crude fat, ash, fiber, calcium, and phosphorus were obtained in treatment E (100% BSF). The results of statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference due to the provision of BSF flour to the growth speed parameters, that is the Final Body Weight (FBW) and the Feed Consumption parameter with the optimal treatment, that is treatment B (25% BSF + 75% commercial). The treatment that produced the best performance on quail growth speed was the provision of a feed mixture of 25% BSF flour and 75% commercial feed.

Abstract

Food of animal origin, which is generally relatively expensive. Animal proteins that are cheap enough for the public to buy include quail meat and eggs (Coturnix-coturnix japonica). Quail is one of the poultry that produces animal protein for humans because its body contains protein that comes from its food. Black Soldier Fly larvae (BSF) is one of the insects that can be used as animal feed because of its high protein and fat content. This study aimed to determine the effect of the mixture of BSF larvae meal with SP-22 commercial feed on the production performance and quality of quail eggs and determine which treatment produced similar performance to the reference treatment (treatment A). This study used 80 quail with ration formulations A (100% commercial feed (CF)), B (25% BSF + 75% CF), C (50% BSF + 50% CF), D (75% BSF + 25% CF), and E (100% BSF). The results showed that there were only significant differences in Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Production Egg, Haugh Unit (HU), Yolk Index (YI), and organoleptic (flavor, taste, and egg yolk color) and rations that produced similar performance to the reference treatment (treatment A) is treatment D.

Abstract

The existence of rats often causes losses in various areas of human life, such as in agriculture, plantations, and communities. Chemical rat control is effective both indoors and outdoors, with toxic baits such as rodenticides. However, rodenticides are considered ineffective by the community and pest control services. This experiment aimed to obtain the differences in metabolism and behavior of rats due to consuming rodenticides with several types of active ingredients. The experiment was carried out from January 2020 to March 2020 at the Plant Pest Laboratory, Vertebrate Division, Department of Plant Pests, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University. The study used a randomized block design (RBD) experimental method with 5 treatments, there were treatments without active ingredients (control), Coumatetralyl, Brodifacoum, Bromadiolone, and Warfarin rodenticide, with 6 replications. The parameters tested were rat metabolisms i.e., changes in body weight, feed and drinking consumption, feces and urine production, and rat behavior. The results showed that there were differences in metabolic effects and rat behavior due to consuming rodenticides with Coumatetralyl, Brodifacoum, Bromadiolone, and Warfarin. Four active ingredients affected decreasing body weight, feed and drink consumption, as well as the production of feces and urine, but Coumatetralyl rodenticide causes an increased drink consumption and urine production on the first day. The effect of four active ingredients in the rodenticide formulation has almost the same symptoms, and has a mechanism as an anticoagulant and an inhibitor of the central nervous system. The differences in rats behavior lie in the timing of symptoms of poisoning.

Abstract

Rice seed quality can be decreased during in storage. High quality seeds has high viability and vigor. The experiment was aimed to know the effect of seed storage duration on rice seed quality and to determine the variety that has a longer shelf life. The experiment was conducted in the Laboratory of Seed, Tungro Disease Research Center Lanrang, Sidrap, South Sulawesi, from July 2019 until January 2020. The experiment was arranged in the completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors. Each treatment combination consisted of 4 replications. The first factors was storage duration that consisted of four levels: 3 months, 5 months, 7 months, and 9 months. The second factors were variety that consisted of five varieties: Tukad Balian, Tukad Petanu, Situ Patenggang, Cigeulis, and Towuti. Variables observed were seed moisture content and maximum growth potential. The results showed that storage duration influenced the seed moisture content and maximum growth potential. Increasing storage periods of rice seed from 5, 7, and 9 months after harvesting decreased the seed moisture content of Tukad Balian and Situ Patenggang but it increased the seed moisture content of Tukad Petanu. Increasing storage periods of rice also decreased maximum growth potential of Tukad Balian, Situ Patenggang, and Tukad Petanu. Meanwhile, Cigeulis and Towuti can maintain their seed moisture content and maximum growth potential up to 9 months.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the takhrij and syarah hadith related to fever as originating from evil vapors. This study uses a qualitative approach that emphasizes literature review through the takhrij and syarah hadith methods with contemporary analysis. The results of this study indicate that the quality status of the hadith about fever comes from the steam of hell with authentic quality because it has met the criteria for authenticity of sanad and authenticity of matan hadith. This hadith is considered authentic because all the narrators are dzabit and adl (tsiqot). Meanwhile, the hadith syarah shows that the treatment of fever can be done using water or better known as a compress, which is one of the methods of treatment that was used by the Prophet Saw and is still effective. This study concludes that the hadith about fever as coming from the steam of hell is acceptable (maqbul) so that it can be used as evidence for Islamic practice.
