Abstract

Anesthesia is used in several studies to reduce or eliminate pain and suffering in experimental animals. One of the most widely used experimental animal species in research is rat (Rattus norvegicus). Ketamine-xylazine (KX) is a combination that is often used for injection anesthesia in rats. The properties of the KX combination ideally can induce the desired effect, such as analgesics, muscle relaxation, and sedation. However, the KX combination can cause side effects that affects the physiological function in rat’s body. This literature study discusses the variety of ketamine-xylazine combination doses that can be used as anesthesia in rats, their effect on cardiorespiratory parameters and body temperature in rats. It can be concluded that the combination of ketamine-xylazine provides a variety of doses that produce a fast onset of action and a duration of action that can be adjusted according to needs.

Abstract

Bengkalis District is one of largest peatlands in Riau. However, peatlands in Bengkalis have been degraded by 57% due to careless logging plantations, so there is rapid subsidence, land draying, and more flammability. One of method to recover the peatland is by utilizing local plant such as geronggang tree (Cratoxylum arborescens (Vahl.) Blume). The benefit of ecological aspect from Geronggang trees was to maintaining peatland moisture, storage a lot of water and the same as many benefits for Bengkalis' citizen. This study aimed to provide information regarding the conservation of geronggang trees by local Bengkalis' people support the restoration of peatland. Primary and secondary data collected by observation and interview to local citizen. The results show that the Bengkalis cityzen has its own way for conserving geronggang trees, it is geronggang seeds are planted with mixed cropping system and the harvesting with thinning cutting system, cutting hallway (track) system, and cutting the embroidery. This is done for the sustainability of peat moisture on one side and maintaining of geronggang trees. Its means, the conservation efforts made by the local people of Bengkalis can maintain the existence of geronggang trees in the region and can help restoration of the degraded peatland.

Abstract

In addition to plant treatment in the field, the processing method also effects to the quality of chili seeds. Information on this matter is still limited. This research was conducted to determine the effects of chili type and processing method on chili seed quality. The treatments of three types of chillies (big, curly and cayenne) with two processing methods (manual wet and by machine) was carried out at the Vegetables Crops Research Institute from February to May 2018. Seed quality observations were carried out using the ISTA method for parameters of seed moisture content and germination. The result showed that the seed water content was affected by the type of chili and the processing method. Manual processing of chili seeds produces seeds with lower seed moisture content (7.86%) compared to machine processing (8.44%). Seed moisture content from the lowest to the highest was successively produced by curly chili, big chili and cayenne chili at 7.39%, 8.01%, and 9.05%. The germination of seeds from manual processing was significantly higher than that from machine processing (39.83%). The germination of curly chili seeds (53.13%) was not significantly different from that of big chili (49.63%) but significantly different from that of cayenne pepper (33.00%).

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the biodiversity countries, Indonesia ranks the second largest biodiversity in the world after Brazil. Around 8500 fish species are in Indonesian waters, as many as 1300 fish species occupy the fresh waters of western Indonesia. This is inseparable from the role of the community who strives to protect and preserve the environment. One of the efforts to conserve freshwater fish by the community is the existence of a prohibition pit. The purpose of this study was to explore the biodiversity of fish species in the river basin and its management. The method in this study is a survey method with a qualitative descriptive approach. Collecting data in the form of primary data, through observation and interviews. Sampling of fish is through sampling directly to the location. The research was conducted from April 2021 to July 2021. From the results of the study found 9 species of fish, namely: Sebarau (Hampala sp), Lampam (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii), Selais (Kryptopterus cryptopterus), Gabus (Channa striata), Baung (Mystus temarus), Limbat (Clarias nieuhofii), Seluang Juo (Luciosoma trinema), Nila (Oreochromis niloticus), and Toman (Channa micropletes). The most widely used fish by the community are lampam, sebarau and cork fish. While the rare fish are toman fish and limbat fish. To maintain the preservation of fish, people are not allowed to take fish before the harvest period and can only take large fish. The harvest is done the day before the month of Ramadhan. The regulation aims to maintain the existence of local fish.

Abstract

Turtle is one of the biodiversity found in the thousand islands whose existence needs to be maintained because it has a vital role in maintaining the marine ecosystem balance. Apart from being a conservation area, the Thousand Islands is a strategic area for national tourism. Tourism activities will indirectly affect the environmental conditions of the turtle habitat. In this study, we want to know the number of turtle eggs collected during 2018-2021, the distribution of spawning locations, and the percentage rate of hatching success. The method used is descriptive quantitative. The data studied are related to the number of turtle eggs that have survived, the location of the discovery of turtle nests, and the month of discovery obtained from reports on monitoring activities of wild plants and animals at the Thousand Islands National Park Center. This data calculates the percentage of hatching success of semi-natural turtle hatching in three locations. Based on the data, 21 islands have been identified as nesting sites for turtles over the last four years. The turtle nesting locations were found on six islands in the core zone. The rest are in the tourism use zone, and one of them is on a residential island. Based on the study results, the island which is the nesting location for turtles is an island with relatively flat topography, tends to be quiet from human disturbances, is small in size with medium vegetation density, and has a reasonably vast coastline. The percentage of successful semi-natural turtle eggs hatching in the Thousand Islands National Park for the last four years is 69.8%. It is still inadequate, so it is necessary to evaluate the management of the translocation of the hawksbill nest (Eretmochelys imbricata) activity.

Abstract

Seeds are one of the factors that support the success of plant cultivation. This study aims to obtain information on seed production of 17 shallot varieties in the highlands during the rainy season. Research was conducted to find out the production of shallot seeds in Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute (IVEGRI) Lembang (1,250 m above sea level) from October to December 2020. The material used is in the form of 17 varieties of shallot from the IVEGRI, namely: Sembrani, Katumi, Maja Cipanas, Bima Brebes, Kuning, Pikatan, Trisula, Pancasona, Mentes, Kramat 1, Kramat 2, TSS Agrihort 1, TSS Agrihort 2, Violetta 1 Agrihorti, Violetta 2 Agrihorti, Violetta 3 Agrihorti, Ambassador 1 Agrihorti. Wet weight, dry weight of askip and seed weight per plot (15.4 m2) obtained range from 26.9 kg -58.4 kg, 18.0 kg -36.5 kg, and 10.0 kg -26.3 kg. Violetta 2 Agrihorti is the variety that produces the highest wet weight per plot, and Sembrani is the variety that produces the dry weight of askip and the highest seed weight. The ratio between the weight of the seeds planted with the seeds produced in this rainy season planting ranges from 2.6 (Sembrani) – 11.0 times (Violetta 3 Agrihorti) on average 7.1 times. The production of onion seeds can be carried out in the rainy season and is influenced by the variety.
