Abstract

Cover crops, especially legume cover crop (LCC) are ground cover plants used for protecting the soil from erosion and preventing loss of nutrients, furthermore they can improve soil quality physically, chemically, and biologically. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of soaking seeds, light exposure and media on the seed germination of four species of LCC (Calopogonium mucunoides, Centrosema pubescens, Mucuna bracteata, and Pueraria javanica). This study was conducted using a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which was divided into two experiments i.e., the effect of seed soaking and light exposure on seed germination. Based on the statistical analysis, the first experiment showed that there was no interaction between LCC species and soaking treatment. In the other experiment, the light factor only had a significant effect on the increase of sprout length, length of 14 days old sprouts, and growth of plumules. Germination media, namely paper and sand, had an effect on two types of LCC. Paper media significantly affected the germination percentage of M. bracteata as well as the vigor index and germination rate of Ce. pubescens, while the sand medium had a significant effect on the germination rate of Ce. pubescens. It can be concluded that seed germination of LCC species was not affected by add soaking treatment but was more influenced by light exposure and media in which each species showed a different germination response.

Abstract

Tungro disease is an important disease in rice plants that can cause puso. One of the effective efforts to prevent the outbreak of tungro disease is to plant tungro resistant varieties. The tungro-resistant varieties are still limited, while the tungro virus continues to change, so that the resistance of varieties can be broken. Therefore, it is necessary to assemble a new variety. The aim of the study was to determine the yield potential of 10 tungro-resistant early paddy rice lines. The research was conducted at IP2TP Lolittungro in the second planting season in 2021, June to December. The comparison varieties used were Inpari 36 and Inpari 33. The experiment was arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RAK) using 3 replications. The data were tested by analysis of variance with the F test and if they were significantly different, they continued with the LSD test. The yield potential obtained from the comparison varieties Inpari 33 is 6.17 tons/ha and Inpari 36 is 7.97 tons/ha. The results of the analysis showed that 7 (seven) lines were more mature than the comparison. As for the potential yield obtained, there are 2 lines that exceed one of the comparison varieties, namely BP20420b-2-0-2-3-LR-2-1-1 and BP14880e-1-Kn-3-0-LR-1-1-1 with production of 6.36 tons/ha and 6.86 tons/ha, respectively. The two lines were also supported by the highest percentage of filled grain, namely 75.53% and 86.27%.

Abstract

The Javan gibbon (Hylobates moloch) is one of the endemic primates that are protected on the island of Java. The results of research and surveys show that the Javan gibbon population in its natural habitat has a declining trend. Conservation efforts that can be done to rebuild the Javan gibbon population in the wild are by releasing them. For release, careful preparation and consideration is needed because the Javan gibbon has a high level of sensitivity to disturbance. This research was conducted at the Javan Primate Rehabilitation Center (JPRC) The Aspinall Foundation with the aim of knowing the release readiness status of the Javan gibbon pair based on 4 release criteria consisting of permanent partner readiness, daily activity readiness, health readiness and ability to consume natural food. The study was conducted on two pairs of Javan gibbons targeted for release, namely Udin-Lola and Joy-Bobby. Observations were made from January to February 2022 using the ad libitum method and scan sampling with an interval of 5 minutes . The results showed that based on 4 criteria for release, both partners were declared to have met the criteria for release, except for the status of the ability to consume natural food. During the observation, copulation activity was not observed, but the Udin-Lola pair was seen several times carrying out pre-copulation activities. Based on the value of readiness for release, the Udin-Lola pair were categorized as ready to be released into the wild with scores of 74.2. Meanwhile, the Joy-Bobby couple is not ready to be released with a score of 68.6.

Abstract

One of the main diseases in chili (Capsicum annuum) that can attack the fruit is anthracnose. The cause of this disease is caused by the fungus Colletotrichum spp. which can reduce production. In chili plants centers, farmers often intercrop it with shallots. Therefore, shallots can also be affected by anthracnose disease. This study aims to determine the pathogenicity of anthracnose isolates from shallots against infection by chili on a laboratory scale. The study was conducted at the Mycology Laboratory of the Indonesian Vegetables Research Institute (IVEGRI) in January 2020. The experiment used three shallot anthracnose isolates from Cipanas, Rancaekek and Lembang, also using three varieties of chili namely Kencana, Pilar, and Castillo. The results of the pathogenicity test showed that the Colletotrichum sp. isolate from shallots from Lembang, Cipanas, and Rancaekek could potentially cause anthracnose symptoms in chili with the highest lesions in Pilar varieties (1.61 cm) and the lowest in Kencana varieties (0.78 cm). Meanwhile, from the three sources of shallot isolates, whose incubation period is the fastest and the symptoms are always present in the inoculated chilies is Colletotrichum sp. isolate from Rancaekek.

Abstract

Fusarium sp is a type of fungus that is pathogenic especially on plants. This fungus attacks the pith tissue of the stem through the injured root. Yellow leaf color is an early indication of this fungal infection. An alternative in controlling this fungus could be to use Bacillus sp because these bacteria have growth inhibitory compounds. This study aims to determine the effect of Bacillus sp from Liwa Botanical Garden on Fusarium sp. Antagonist testing using dual culture method on media Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) with 3 bacterial isolates was tested. The results of the antagonist test showed that the isolate Bacillus sp.TSR 6 had an inhibitory capacity of 19.7 mm with a strong inhibitory category against the fungus Fusarium sp.

Abstract

The heavy metals of Lead (Pb), Chrom (Cr), and Merkuri (Hg) are widely substances used in the industrial sectors including textile, manufacturing, printing, pharmacy, pesticide, painting, heavy equipment and leather. This industrial activities generally caused to the heavy metals pollution have been found located around of Ciliwung River. Basically, the waste water coming from that industrial activities discharge in stream without treatment causing the seriously River Pollution. That industrial waste water production continuously causing accumulation of heavy metals in the sediment and aquatic organism such as plankton, benthos. The goal of this study was to know the relationship between the heavy metal content of Pb, Cr, and Hg at the sediment and the content of Pb, Cr, and Hg in the organs and meat of Demersal fish and Pelagic fish that live in Ciliwung River waters. The results showed that Pb, Cr, and Hg were found in the sediments Ciliwung River. Concentrations Pb, Cr, and Hg at sediments were different significant (P<0.05) according to the location of observation, while according to the replication (observation time) only Hg was significantly different (P<0.05). Observations of heavy metals in fish showed that only Hg in the organs of Demersal fish were significantly different according to the location of observation and replication (time of observation). In general, the content of Pb, Cr, and Hg in the organs of Demersal fish and Pelagic fish is higher than that in meat. The relationship between heavy metal content in sediment and heavy metal content in fish showed that only the relationship between Cr content in sediment and Cr content in Demersal fish meat and the relationship between Hg content in sediment and Hg content in Pelagic fish meat was significantly different (P<0.05).

Abstract

North Dulamayo Forest is one of the forests that are rich in both biological and non-biological natural resources. This natural wealth is used as a source of life for the local community to meet their daily needs. As a result of the conversion of forest functions into agricultural land, the surrounding community, animals, plants, and the environment as a whole. This study aims to obtain information on the physical condition and impact of land conversion in the North Dulamayo Forest area, Telaga Biru District, Gorontalo Regency, and Gorontalo Province. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were people living around the forest. Collecting data using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results of the study found that the people around the Dulamayo Forest chose to convert the forest into agricultural land to meet their daily needs. The transfer of function has an impact on forest destruction, reducing the number of flora and habitats of various animals in the North Dulamayo Forest. Another impact that often occurs is the cause of landslides in the rainy season.
