Abstract

ABSTRACT ENGLISHFilm is a discursive sphere where cultural meanings are constructed and debated through visual storytelling. Therefore, it is significant to expose binary contradictions in neoliberal gender ideology and reveal structural violence against women hidden behind narratives of social mobility in film. This study, thus, aims to unravel the complexity of gender and class representations in Anora (2024) through a critical analysis of “Neoliberal Cinderella” discourse, which frames labour relations as romance and shifts the costs of social reproduction onto women's bodies. This research employs interpretive qualitative study with two mutually reinforcing analytical frameworks. First, Derrida's Deconstruction to identify and dismantle dominant binary oppositions (love versus money, spontaneity versus strategy, reality versus fantasy) through an in-depth reading of mise-en-scène, dialogue and material markers. Second, Marxist-feminist perspective is utilised to map the political economy of affective labor, the mechanisms of commodification through gifts and access, and the unequal distribution of risks and costs affecting the main character, Ani. The results show that Anora both produces and disrupts the neoliberal Cinderella myth by revealing the hidden costs behind the promise of social mobility (social climbing): fragmented time, exploited emotions, and commodified security. The movie reveals that social mobility is a lease, not a right, and that love is used to glorify labour contracts. This paper proposes a methodological bridge of Marxist-feminist and deconstruction for cultural criticism that demands structural redistribution and recognition of affective labour as real work that is entitled to protection, compensation, and dignity. ABSTRACT INDONESIANFilm merupakan ruang diskursif di mana makna-makna budaya dibangun dan diperdebatkan melalui bahasa sinematik, sehingga mampu mengungkap kontradiksi dalam ideologi gender neoliberal dan mengungkap kekerasan struktural terhadap perempuan yang tersembunyi di balik narasi mobilitas sosial. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengurai kompleksitas wacana gender dan kelas dalam film Anora (2024) melalui analisis narasi “Neoliberal Cinderella” yang menggambarkan hubungan kerja sebagai romansa dan mengalihkan beban reproduksi sosial dalam tubuh perempuan. Metode penelitian menggunakan studi kualitatif interpretatif dengan dua alat analitis yang saling memperkuat. Dekonstruksi Derrida digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi dan membongkar oposisi biner yang dominan seperti cinta versus uang, spontanitas versus strategi, realita versus fantasi, melalui analisis mendalam mise-en-scène, dialog, dan tanda-tanda material di dalam film. Kemudian teori feminis-Marxis digunakan untuk memetakan ekonomi politik kerja afektif, mekanisme komodifikasi melalui hadiah dan akses kekuasaan, serta distribusi risiko dan “harga” yang harus ditanggung dan “dibayar” oleh karakter perempuan dalam fiim ini. Hasil dari analisis menunjukkan bahwa Anora membongkar fantasi Cinderella modern dimana mobilitas social yang dijanjikan hanya akan selalu mengorbankan stabilitas hidup, mengeksploitasi emosi dan menjadikan rasa aman sebagai komodifikasi. Film ini mengungkapkan bahwa mobilitas sosial adalah bersifat sementara, bukan hak yang berkelanjutan, dan cinta hanya digunakan untuk menghormati kontrak kerja. Penelitian ini menawarkan kerangka-metodologi teori baru (dekonstruksi-feminis-Marxis) untuk kritik budaya yang menuntut redistribusi struktural dan pengakuan terhadap pekerja emosional sebagai pekerjaan nyata yang berhak atas perlindungan, kompensasi, dan martabat.

Abstract

Discussions on gender equality continue to evolve and warrant further research in various settings, one of which is religious educational institutions such as pesantren (Islamic boarding school). The concept of gender equality is often perceived as conflicting with the Pesantren Salafiyah model, which typically features an authoritarian, conservative, and patriarchal culture. The objective of this study is to examine how gender equality is constructed at the Pesantren Salafiyah Kapurejo in Kediri Regency. The approach used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach that examines the construction of gender equality in social interactions within the pesantren from the perspectives of students, teachers, and the pesantren leader (Kiai). Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation at the Pesantren Salafiyah Kapurejo, Kediri Regency, East Java. This study involved 14 informants, consisting of boarding school administrators, teachers, and male and female students. The results indicate that gender equality values have developed unevenly within the pesantren environment. First, in the externalization sphere, a culture of gender equality has been established through pesantren regulations and daily activities that provide relatively equal opportunities for male and female students to participate in learning, organizational activities, and decision-making. Second, in the internalization sphere, these values have been accepted and practiced by members of the pesantren community, as reflected in cooperation, tolerance, and the division of responsibilities based on competence, not gender. However, in the realm of objectification, the institutionalization of gender equality remains limited. Although pesantren formally promote equal treatment, these values have not yet been fully embedded in organizational structures, written policies, or leadership arrangements; consequently, the implementation of equality still relies heavily on individual awareness and informal practices rather than on permanent institutional mechanisms.   Abstract IndonesianWacana tentang kesetaraan gender terus berkembang dan layak untuk diteliti di berbagai ruang, salah satunya adalah lembaga pendidikan berbasis agama seperti pesantren. Konsep kesetaraan gender sering dianggap bertentangan dengan konsep pesantren salaf yang umumnya memiliki budaya otoriter, konservatif, dan patriarkal. Tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana kesetaraan gender dikonstruksi di Pesantren Salafiyah Kapurejo, Kabupaten Kediri. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif yang mengkaji konstruksi kesetaraan gender dalam interaksi sosial di pesantren dari perspektif santri, guru, dan pimpinan pesantren (Kiai). Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi di Pesantren Salafiyah Kapurejo, Kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur. Penelitian ini melibatkan 14 informan, yang terdiri dari pengasuh pesantren, guru, dan santri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai kesetaraan gender berkembang secara tidak merata di pesantren. Pertama, di ruang eksternalisasi, budaya kesetaraan gender telah terbentuk melalui peraturan pesantren dan kegiatan sehari-hari yang memberikan kesempatan yang relatif sama bagi santri laki-laki dan perempuan untuk berpartisipasi dalam pembelajaran, kegiatan organisasi, dan pengambilan keputusan. Kedua, di ruang internalisasi, nilai-nilai ini telah diterima dan dipraktikkan oleh anggota komunitas pesantren, sebagaimana tercermin dalam kerja sama, toleransi, dan pembagian tanggung jawab berdasarkan kompetensi, bukan gender. Namun, dalam ruang objektivasi, institusionalisasi kesetaraan gender masih terbatas. Meskipun pesantren secara formal mempromosikan perlakuan yang setara, namun nilai-nilai ini belum sepenuhnya tertanam dalam organisasi, kebijakan tertulis, atau pengaturan kepemimpinan, sehingga implementasi kesetaraan masih sangat bergantung pada kesadaran individu dan praktik informal daripada mekanisme kelembagaan yang permanen.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of reality in the online media coverage by Detik.com and Tribunnews.com, from May 2 to 8, 2025 (coverage news period). The coverage focuses on the Regent of Cianjur Regency’s decision to send students alleged to be LGBT to military barracks. Using a qualitative approach and Robert N. Entman's framing analysis method within the constructivist paradigm, this study focuses on four components of framing analysis: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. Data were derived in the form of four news stories (two news articles from each media) and were selected purposively to allow for an in-depth analysis of the framing strategies used. The results show that both media frame the issue from different perspectives. The findings suggest that Detik.com constructs its coverage through an informative frame shaped by nationalist ideology and an orientation toward objectivity, while Tribunnews.com frames its reporting by foregrounding moral judgements and controversial aspects. These findings demonstrate that the media not only convey facts but also reconstruct reality according to their respective ideologies and news orientations. This research is significant because the LGBT issue remains a social and political debate in Indonesia, so media framing has been influenced and shaped public opinion, moral perceptions, and the direction of government policy. Thus, by understanding how the media frames this sensitive issue, readers and researchers can be more critical in interpreting information and its impact on the construction of social reality Abstract Indonesian: Penelitian ini menganalisis konstruksi realitas dalam liputan media daring Detik.com dan Tribunnews.com terkait isu pengiriman mahasiswa diduga LGBT ke barak militer oleh Bupati Cianjur dalam kurun waktu 2-8 Mei 2025. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode analisis framing model Robert N. Entman dalam paradigma konstruktivis, penelitian ini berfokus pada empat komponen analisis framing: definisi masalah, interpretasi kausal, evaluasi moral, dan rekomendasi penanganan. Data berupa empat berita (dua artikel berita dari setiap media) dipilih secara purposif untuk memungkinkan analisis mendalam terhadap strategi framing yang digunakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua media membingkai isu dari perspektif yang berbeda. Detik.com cenderung menampilkan frame informatif dengan ideologi nasionalis yang menekankan objektivitas, sementara Tribunnews.com menekankan aspek moralitas dan kontroversi. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa media tidak hanya menyampaikan fakta, tetapi juga merekonstruksi realitas sesuai dengan ideologi dan orientasi beritanya masing-masing. Penelitian ini penting karena isu LGBT masih menjadi perdebatan sosial dan politik di Indonesia, sehingga pembingkaian media berpotensi memengaruhi opini publik, persepsi moral, dan arah kebijakan pemerintah. Oleh karena itu, dengan memahami bagaimana media membingkai isu-isu sensitif ini, pembaca dan peneliti dapat lebih kritis dalam menafsirkan informasi dan dampaknya terhadap konstruksi realitas sosial.

Abstract

The strong patriarchal norms in Hindu-Balinese society are reflected in the belief that marriage is a stage of life and a moral responsibility to maintain the continuity of the family line, especially sons. For Hindu-Balinese women, this is a reproductive obligation in addition to domestic, public and customary burdens. Ironically, they often lack control over decision-making or ownership of resources, so the post-marriage crisis pushes Gen-Z women to redefine the meaning of marriage and family. This study aims to reveal the views of Gen-Z Hindu-Balinese women in interpreting marriage as a life choice. Through qualitative methods with a life history approach and Stuart Hall's identity perspective, this study shows that Gen-Z negotiates their identity as “Balinese women.” This negotiation process emerges from critical reflections on their experiences of growing up as Hindu-Balinese women, as well as from their observations of post-marital realities. For them, marriage is not simply a moral obligation or a stage in life, but rather a logical choice that aligns with their mental, economic, and personal autonomy. In other words, the uniqueness of this research lies in the efforts of Gen-Z Hindu-Balinese women to negotiate a space of independence without completely abandoning their cultural roots.   Abstrak Norma patriarki yang kuat dalam masyarakat Hindu-Bali memposisikan perkawinan sebagai tahapan penting dalam kehidupan sekaligus tanggung jawab moral untuk menjaga keberlanjutan garis keturunan keluarga, khususnya melalui anak laki-laki. Bagi perempuan Hindu-Bali, tuntutan ini menjelma menjadi kewajiban reproduktif yang berlapis dengan beban domestik, publik, dan adat. Ironisnya, di tengah berbagai beban tersebut, perempuan sering kali memiliki keterbatasan dalam pengambilan keputusan maupun kepemilikan sumber daya. Kondisi ini menyebabkan pengalaman pasca-perkawinan kerap memicu krisis yang mendorong perempuan Gen-Z untuk meninjau ulang dan mendefinisikan kembali makna perkawinan dan keluarga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pandangan perempuan Hindu-Bali Generasi Z dalam memaknai perkawinan sebagai sebuah pilihan hidup. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif melalui pendekatan life history serta perspektif identitas Stuart Hall, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan Gen-Z secara aktif melakukan negosiasi identitas sebagai “perempuan Bali.” Proses negosiasi ini berangkat dari refleksi kritis atas pengalaman mereka tumbuh sebagai perempuan Hindu-Bali serta melihat realitas kehidupan pasca-perkawinan. Bagi mereka, perkawinan tidak lagi dipahami semata-mata sebagai kewajiban moral atau tahapan hidup yang harus dilalui, melainkan sebagai pilihan rasional yang mempertimbangkan kesehatan mental, kemandirian ekonomi, dan otonomi personal. Keunikan penelitian ini terletak pada upaya perempuan Hindu-Bali Generasi Z dalam membangun ruang kemandirian tanpa sepenuhnya meninggalkan akar budaya mereka.

Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of double burden experienced by women in Jelun Village, Banyuwangi, who must carry two main responsibilities: working in the public sphere and managing household duties. Although they actively contribute to the family economy through farming, trading, and other informal jobs, household tasks such as cooking, washing, and taking care of children remain their primary obligations. This condition displays that social and economic changes in rural areas have not fully altered traditional gender-based role divisions. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews with three informants and documentation. The findings reveal that women in Jelun Village demonstrate high resilience in balancing these multiple responsibilities, even when facing physical exhaustion and emotional stress. Values of hard work, patience, and responsibility play an important role in helping them endure daily challenges. However, behind this strength, the influence of patriarchy remains strong, positioning women as the main caretakers of domestic affairs. This situation indicates that gender equality in rural areas has not yet been fully achieved. Therefore, there is a need to increase social awareness and encourage a fairer division of household roles, so that women can participate more equally in both public and domestic spheres without being overburdened.   Abstrak Penelitian ini mengkaji fenomena peran ganda yang dialami oleh perempuan di Desa Jelun, Banyuwangi, yang harus menjalankan dua tanggung jawab utama, yaitu bekerja di ranah publik dan mengelola tugas domestik. Meskipun mereka berkontribusi aktif dalam perekonomian keluarga melalui kegiatan bertani, berdagang, dan pekerjaan informal lainnya, tugas rumah tangga seperti memasak, mencuci, dan merawat anak tetap menjadi kewajiban utama mereka. Kondisi ini menunjukkan bahwa perubahan sosial dan ekonomi di wilayah pedesaan belum sepenuhnya mengubah pembagian peran berbasis gender yang tradisional. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam terhadap tiga informan serta dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan di Desa Jelun memiliki tingkat ketahanan yang tinggi dalam menjalankan berbagai tanggung jawab tersebut, meskipun menghadapi kelelahan fisik dan tekanan emosional. Nilai-nilai kerja keras, kesabaran, dan tanggung jawab memiliki peran yang signifikan dalam membantu mereka menghadapi tantangan sehari-hari. Namun, di balik ketangguhan tersebut, pengaruh patriarki masih kuat, karena terus menempatkan perempuan sebagai penanggung jawab utama urusan domestik. Kondisi ini mengindikasikan bahwa kesetaraan gender di wilayah pedesaan belum sepenuhnya tercapai. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan peningkatan kesadaran sosial serta pembagian peran yang lebih adil dalam rumah tangga agar perempuan dapat berpartisipasi secara lebih seimbang di ranah publik dan domestik tanpa mengalami beban yang berlebihan.

Abstract

Child marriage has shifted from a social phenomenon into a normalized community practice, creating a stark distinction and paradox with Islamic values that emphasize human welfare (maslahat al-ummah) and the protection of future generations (hifzh al-nasl). This practice also directly hinders the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Gender Equality and No Poverty. This study aims to identify the driving factors of early marriage and analyze the strategic role of the regional government as the authorized guardian (ulil amri) in mitigating its negative impacts to build a resilient society. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with key stakeholders (Population control and family planning Office, public health Office, and the Office of Religious Affairs in Empat Lawang Regency), participatory observation, and focus group discussions. The findings indicate that the normalization of child marriage is driven by social constructs that view early marriage as an instant remedy for low educational attainment, poverty, lack of parental supervision, and out-of-wedlock pregnancies. There is a stark distinction between the community's cultural justification and true Islamic principles; public misinterprets early marriage as a moral shield, whereas Islam substantively warns against creating a "weak generation" (dzurriyyatan dhi'afan). The regional government’s role as the authorized guardian (ulil amri) in mitigating these impacts through reproductive health education and family assistance programs remains fragmented. The integration of religious institutions like the KUA in deconstructing this flawed understanding is not yet optimal. These findings imply that future policies must shift toward bottom-up community engagement and aggressive pre-marital counselling at the village level.   Abstract Indonesian Pernikahan anak telah bergeser dari sekadar fenomena sosial menjadi praktik masyarakat yang ternormalisasi, sehingga menciptakan distingsi dan paradoks yang tajam dengan nilai-nilai keislaman yang menekankan kemaslahatan umat (maslahat al-ummah) dan perlindungan generasi masa depan (hifzh al-nasl). Praktik ini juga secara langsung menghambat pencapaian SDGs, khususnya Gender Equality dan No Poverty. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor pendorong pernikahan dini dan menganalisis peran strategis pemerintah daerah sebagai pemimpin otoritatif (ulil amri) dalam memitigasi dampak negatifnya demi membangun masyarakat yang tangguh. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, data dihimpun melalui wawancara mendalam dengan pemangku kepentingan utama (DPPKB, Dinas Kesehatan, dan KUA di di Kabupaten Empat Lawang), observasi partisipatif, serta diskusi kelompok terpumpun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa normalisasi pernikahan anak didorong oleh konstruksi sosial yang menganggap pernikahan dini sebagai solusi instan atas rendahnya tingkat pendidikan, kemiskinan, kurangnya pengawasan orang tua, dan kehamilan di luar nikah. Terdapat distingsi antara justifikasi kultural masyarakat dengan prinsip Islam yang sejati; masyarakat sering kali menyalahartikan pernikahan dini sebagai pelindung moral, padahal Islam memperingatkan agar kita tidak melahirkan "generasi yang lemah" (dzurriyyatan dhi'afan). Peran pemerintah daerah sebagai ulil amri dalam memitigasi dampak-dampak tersebut melalui edukasi kesehatan reproduksi dan program pendampingan keluarga masih terfragmentasi. Integrasi lembaga keagamaan seperti KUA dalam mendekonstruksi pemahaman keliru ini juga belum optimal. Temuan ini mengimplikasikan bahwa kebijakan di masa depan harus bergeser ke arah pelibatan masyarakat berbasis bottom-up (dari bawah ke atas) dan konseling pranikah yang agresif di tingkat desa.

Abstract

Large Language Models (LLMs) are rapidly being integrated into society. However, questions remain about their safety and appropriateness for minorities like the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ), especially for non-Western Transgender and Non-Binary (TGNB) individuals. Therefore, this study reviews research on the interaction of LLMs with LGBTQ and TGNB people, LGBTQ linguistic phenomena, and the linguistic phenomena of Filipino LGBTQ people. A qualitative systematic review was conducted on 36 studies published from 2019 to 2026. Using thematic analysis, harmful patterns of LLMs were discovered, such as the propagation of LGBTQ stereotypes, misgendering, and a lack of context and sensitivity to the TGNB experience. In the Filipino context, there are also problems due to the lack of TGNB terminology and local stereotypes. The study, therefore, proposes a conceptual framework based on Intersectionality to examine the overlapping biases that affect TGNB Filipinos LLM users. Using critical analysis, the study contributes to discussions for equitable and culturally sensitive LLMs, as well as research on minority language communities and non-Western contexts. Abstract TagalogAng mga Large Language Models (LLM) ay mabilis na ininintegra sa lipunan, pero may nanatiling kweston tungkol kung ligtas at angkop ito para sa mga minoridad na Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, at Queer (LGBTQ), espesyal ang mga hindi-Kanluranin na Transgender at Non-binary (TGNB). Kaya ang pag-aaral na ito ay sinisuri ang mga pananaliksik tungkol sa interaksyon ng mga LLM sa mga LGBTQ at TGNB, mga penomenong lingguwistika ng LGBTQ, at ang penomenong lingwistika ng Pilipino LGBTQ. Kwalitatibong sistematikong pagsusuri ang isinagawa sa 36 na pag-aaral na inilathala noong 2019 hanggat 2026. Gamit ang tematikong pagsusuri, na diskubre ang mga mapaminsalang pattern ng LLM tulad ng pagparami ng mga LGBTQ stereotype, at pag-misgender, at kakulangan ng kontekso at sensitibo sa karanasang TGNB. Sa Pilipinong konteksto, may mga problema din dahil sa kakulangan ng terminong pang TGNB at mga lokal na stereotype. Kaya nagmumungkahi ang pagaaral ng konseptwal na balangkas batay sa Interseksyonalidad, para suriin ang magkasanib na bias na umaapekto sa mga TGNB Pilipinong gumagamit ng mga LLM. Gamit ang pagsusuring kritikal, umaambag ang pag-aaral sa mga talakayan para sa patas at sensitibo-sa-kultura ng mga LLM, an mga subjke sa pananaliksik tungkol sa minoryang komunidad ng wika at mga hindi-Kanluranin kontekstong.
