ABSTRACT This study attempts to improve students’ achievement in writing procedure text through Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique. The result of writing test showed that the students score kept improving significantly. The mean of post-test I was 80,525 and the mean of post-test II was 92,98. The mean score of post-test II in cycle II was the highest. The mean of post-test I until post-test II increased significantly from 80,525 to 92,98. The students became active participants, enjoyable, and enthusiatis in teaching and learning process through Think-Pair-Share (TPS) Technique. The result of the research showed the progress of achievement scores, it can be concluded that Think-Pair-Share (TPS) technique gives contribution to improve students’ achievement in writing procedure text. This study focused on the readability of reading texts in English textbooks for grade XII students in the academic year of 2018/2019 based on Dale and Chall formula. This study was categorized as descriptive qualitative research. The source of the data were 5 reading texts which consist of report, news item and procedure texts selected from English for Senior High School Students XII. The average readability score report texts in textbook was 6.9, while news item and procedure text in were 7.45 and 6.15. The scores indicated that the report text, news item and procedure text in English for Senior High School Students XII textbook were too easy for the twelfth grade students since the textbooks’ level was for the seventh and eighth grade.

This research concerns on improving students’ achievement in speaking by using short movie media. The objective was to find out the improvement of students’ achievement in speaking. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the research was XI IPA-1 students of SMA Negeri 8 Medan. The numbers of students were sixteen students. They were taught speaking by using short movie media. The instruments used were diary notes, interview sheets, and observation sheets. In analyzing data, the mean of students’ score for the first competency test was 42,5 for the second competency test was 61,25 and for the third competency test was 85 and the total percentage of improvement from the first competency test to the third competency test was 68,75%. The conclusion is that students’ achievement in speaking can be improved by using short movie media. It is suggested that teachers should apply short movie media as one of media to improve students’ speaking achievement. Key Words: Students’ achievement, Speaking, Short Movie Media

The study was aimed to recognize how a teaching method could increase students’ competence in speaking. The objective of the study is to describe how the dubbing movie increases the students speaking skill of the tenth Grade Students of SMA N 15 Medan. The research design is a qualitative research. The data collecting methods were interview, observation, and documentation. The data gained was analyzed by using Miles and Huberman model of the data analysis. The research found that the students of the Grade X in SMA N 15 Medan enjoyed the process of preparing the video dubbing from the announcement, script preparing, and the practice. Some students who noticed difficult in speaking English were found increase in speaking competence especially in languages expression and found a fun way to practice English speaking. For short, the video dubbing teaching method increased the students of SMA N 15 Medan English speaking competence.

ABSTRACT This study was focused to improve students’ achievement in writing narrative text by using Think Pair Share Strategy. It was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research with two cycles and six meetings. The subject of this study is Grade X Students of SMA PAB 1 MEDAN ESTATE and consisted of 28 students. The instruments for collecting data used writing test for quantitative and used diary notes, observation sheet and interview sheet for qualitative data. The mean of the test shows the improvement of the students’ score from the first test to the third test. The mean of the students’ score for orientation test was (76,7), the mean in cycle I test was (78,3), and the mean in the cycle II test was (79,4). Based on the data above, it can be concluded that Think Pair Share Strategy is significantly improved students’ writing achievement especially in narrative text.

This study aimed at identifying the types of interpersonal function in Hamiton and focuses on Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) perspective of interpersonal function applied in Hamilton Lyrics. and how the interpersonal function realized in Hamilton Lyrics. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative methode. The source of the data were taken from collected by watching streaming platforms such as Disney+ Hotstar, one of which is dedicated to Disney films. The technique for analyzing the data is qualitative research. The results of this research showed the classifying of data from Hamilton Lyrics selected song lyrics, also analyzing the mood structure regarding the most and residue. It was found there were 171 clauses in the Hamilton Lyrics, with the mood types and residue, 57 clauses were from the first lyrics in Hamilton Lyrics entitled Alexandre Hamilton, 80 clauses from the second in Hamilton Lyrics entitled Satisfied, and 34 clauses are from Hamilton Lyrics entitled You’ll Be Back. The classification are : 136 clauses of Declarative Mood, 27 clauses of Imperative Mood, and 8 clauses of Interrogative Mood. The researcher concluded that the analyzed and classified the Hamilton Lyrics based on the order of subject and finite to find the mood types and modality in each clause. The interpersonal function analysis was described and provided the examples of how that sentence categorized into the specific mood types and residue.

Abstract This study deals with an attempt to improve students’ achievement in writing narrative paragraph through pictures. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class XI IPA of SMA Swasta Gajah Mada consisting of 32 students. The data for the research were writing test as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, interview sheet and questionnaire sheet. Based on the writing tests, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In the first cycle, the mean score was 53,18. In the second test the mean score was 64,87, and in the third test the mean score was 72,5. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet and interview sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process as the response to the applied media pictures. The result of the research showed that pictures can improve students’ achievement in writing narrative paragraph. Keywords: Writing, Narrative Paragraph, Picture

Abstract This study aims to find out the effect of applying community language learning method on the students’ achievement in speaking. The population of the study was the first year student at Man 2 Model Medan. In this study the sample is 50 students where 25 students took as experimental group and 25 students rest was control group. The data of this study was collected by oral test . It was applied in pre test and post test, then the scores were analyzes by using t-test formula. The result of the analysis showed that t-observed value is higher than t-table value ( 3>2.00 ) at the level os significant 0.05 with the degree of freedom 48. It means that there was a effect of applying community language learning method on the students’ achievement in speaking. Keywords: Community Language Learning, Students’ Achievement, Speaking

This study was conducted to find out the effect of using multiple intelligence strategy on students’ achievement in writing narrative texts. The population was the students of grade XI SMA SWASTA KATOLIK 2 Kabanjahe. There were 142 students and 60 of them were taken as the sample based on random sampling technique. Thirty students were taken as control group and others as experimental group (taught by using MI strategy). The instrument used to collect the data was a written test. The data were analyzed by using t-test to show the effect of MI Strategy on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. The results of the analysis showed that t-value 2.73 was higher than t-table 1.67 at the level of significance 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) 58. It means that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. In other words, it is obvious that MI Strategy can cause significant effect on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. ABSTRACT This study attempts to increase students’ vocabulary achievement by using flash cards. The objective of the study is to investigate whether the using of flash card can improve students’ vocabulary achievement. This study conduct by applying Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles in six meetings. The subject of this study of SD Negeri 174559 Siraituruk, Porsea which consisted of 34 students. For collecting data, the instruments used were quantitative (vocabulary test) and qualitative data (interview sheet, observation sheet, and diary notes. Based on the data, it was found that the mean of the second cycle (80, 44) is higher than the mean of first cycle (64, 85) and pre-test (44, 41). Based on interview sheet, observation sheet and diary notes, it was found thee students were more active and more enthusiastic during the teaching learning process in the second cycle than the first one. It was concluded that teaching vocabulary by using flash cards can improve the students’ vocabulary achievement. Keywords : Flash Cards, Vocabulary, Action Research
