Abstract

Tourism villages in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, promote economic diversification, cultural preservation, and community empowerment. However, research lacks connection between heritage and innovative business strategies, affecting livelihoods. This research aims to explore the connection between cultural heritage and innovative business strategies in tourism villages in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, focusing on sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurial ecosystems. The study employed VOSviewer analysis and a systematic literature review to explore entrepreneurial potential in tourism villages in Bantul Regency, utilizing Scopus and Google Scholar databases by using Publish or Perish application. 41 research articles were derived after conducting PRISMA analysis with some inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results show that the network visualization shows a central hub of medium to large-sized nodes, including "village," "tourism," and "Bantul Regency." Five clusters are identified, with gaps in cross-cluster integration, government-economic nexus, and capacity building metrics. The study emphasizes the need for quantitative metrics on capacity-building effects and interdisciplinary integration between cultural studies, business innovation research, and public policy analysis. Abstract

A controversial post by an X user regarding the sweetness level of a beverage sparked significant debate on social media. Public opinion was divided; some criticized the user for employing coarse language, while others defended the tweet as a factual description that should be viewed as constructive criticism of the brand. As the tweet could be perceived as offensive to the corporate entity, it raised concerns regarding its potential classification as defamatory speech. This study aims to identify and analyze the defamatory expressions within the tweets by the account from the perspective of forensic linguistics. The primary data source for this study was a specific post regarding a beverage variant from a popular brand in Indonesia. Data collection employed the documentation method utilizing the note-taking technique. Potentially defamatory expressions were analyzed through the theories of syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and discourse. The data were analyzed using a descriptive-qualitative approach. The results indicate that the post specifically targeted the corporate entity, as evidenced by the syntactic construction. Furthermore, the diction and phrasing employed carried pejorative and negative connotations. Although the post stemmed from the user's unpleasant experience after consuming the beverage, it exhibited elements of reputational injury, libel, and insult directed at the company. Consequently, the utterance warranted classification as defamatory speech.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, the role of global civil society is becoming increasingly important in shaping world politics, including global governance. However, how civil society can play an active role in global governance will be discussed in this study. This study aims to analyze how civil society organizations, such as the LKSA ‘Aisyiyah Orphanage Girls’, can influence the achievement of SDG 4, namely quality education. This study uses a qualitative analysis approach and quantitative data collection through interviews and direct observations, based on the concepts of global governance and global civil society. The results show that the orphanage performs two central roles as a global civil society actor: bridge and watchdog in contributing to the achievement of SDG 4. These roles collectively contribute to key SDG 4 targets, including expanding access to education, reducing educational inequality, and strengthening life skills through vocational and non-formal learning. However, the role of civil society does not eliminate the role of the state but rather forms a more complex and multi-layered governance system. This research provides an understanding of complementary actors, such as civil society, which can enhance governance practices and not simply replace international political institutions.

Abstract

Indonesia's rapid economic growth over the past two decades has had a significant impact on the increase of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, creating an urgency to integrate environmental dimensions into national economic policies. This study aims to analyze the role of carbon taxes as an instrument connecting environmental economics and the green economy framework in Indonesia. The method used is descriptive quantitative combined with policy analysis, allowing for the mapping of carbon emission conditions, energy structure, and the evaluation of carbon tax implementation in the context of sustainable development. Secondary data were obtained from BPS, KLHK, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as well as official policy documents related to carbon taxes and green fiscal measures. Research results show that the energy sector remains the main contributor to GHG emissions, with a high dependence on coal, resulting in relatively high carbon intensity. The initial imposition of a carbon tax rate of IDR 30,000 per ton of CO₂e provides only a limited price signal in driving changes in industrial behavior. Integrative analysis confirms that carbon taxes have strategic potential to promote green investment, energy efficiency, and structural transformation towards a low-carbon economy. However, their effectiveness depends on progressive policy design, institutional readiness, and fair revenue allocation. Compared to the current situation, the implementation of a carbon tax still faces socio economic and technical challenges, including a limited MRV system and the potential regressive impact on low income households.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine cultural management at the University of The Gambia (UTG), focusing on institutional policies, management practices, and employees’ perceptions. The research explores how cultural diversity is understood within a higher education context and identifies both its challenges and benefits. A qualitative research design was employed to gain a deeper understanding of how cultural diversity is managed at UTG. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and open-ended questions administered to administrative and academic staff. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data and identify key themes related to cultural diversity and its management. The findings reveal that UTG has a culturally diverse workforce in terms of gender, age, educational background, and work experience. Cultural diversity was found to positively contribute to institutional effectiveness by enhancing problem-solving, creativity, decision-making, and cooperation among employees. However, several challenges were also identified, including language barriers, limited awareness of diversity-related policies, and discrepancies between management intentions and employees’ perceptions. The study highlights the need for improved communication, inclusive institutional policies, stronger human resource management practices, continuous training, and increased awareness of diversity management. These measures are essential for effectively managing cultural diversity in higher education institutions. This research contributes to the limited qualitative studies on cultural diversity management in higher education in The Gambia and provides practical insights for university administrators, stakeholders, and policymakers.

Abstract

Hoaxes are among the major digital challenges with the potential to erode national values. The significant impact of hoax content has drawn the attention of many parties to further explore this issue. One of the most discussed topics in recent times is the Palestine–Israel conflict. Studies on hoax content related to the conflict on Indonesian social media remain limited. This study aims to examine which platforms are most frequently used in disseminating hoax content, identify the dominant themes, and analyze how hoax content constructs false realities based on McCornack’s (1992) Information Manipulation Theory (IMT). Content analysis and semiotic analysis were employed as the research methods. Data were obtained from hoax news reports published on the official government website (www.komdigi.go.id). The findings reveal that Facebook is the platform with the highest prevalence of hoax content, followed by TikTok, Instagram, X, WhatsApp, and YouTube. The military theme dominated, followed by humanitarian, political, religious, and other themes. The construction of hoax content aligns with IMT, demonstrating violations of quality, quantity, manner, and relevance. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how digital hoaxes operate in conflict-related contexts and provide insights for digital media practitioners in designing effective hoax mitigation strategies.
