Abstract

According to the World Bank’s (2019) study, poverty accounts for more than 70% of the total population in Nigeria, implying that over 130 million people in the country, live in poverty. This pathetic situation is further aggravated by financial exclusion whereby low-income people are neglected away from the financial system because they are considered uneconomical to serve or too difficult to reach. According to the World Bank’s Global Findex, 1.7 billion adults globally are financially excluded, living without formal credit or savings (FINCA International, 2024).  Recently, microfinance has emerged as an important instrument of poverty alleviation in the developing countries with more than 7000 micro lending institutions providing loans to more than 25 million poor individuals across the world (Dahiru and Hassan, 2008). Despite the number of microfinance banks in Nigeria with over 800 of them in the country, Microfinance banks’ contribution to Nigeria’s economy is less than 1% (National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 2020). The question now is, where lies the problem? Through a doctrinal approach, it is observed that the system of operation and management of Microfinance banks in Nigeria has eroded their primary objective (financial inclusion). This is mainly due to the imposition of high interest rate by Microfinance Institutions, poor risk management mechanism, weak organizational structure, insufficient capital, shortage of experts, among others. With its success in some parts of Nigeria such as Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank in Lagos state, Islamic microfinance is recommended to be the real solution in achieving financial inclusion through its products that are interest-free and customer-friendly to the poor and middle-class citizens, in a bid to ensure optimum poverty alleviation in a well regulated and ethical business environment.

Abstract

Afghanistan's predominantly rural population faces severe economic and social challenges, such as poverty, unemployment, and migration to urban areas due to over-reliance on agriculture. This study explores the role of rural industries in addressing these issues by examining their potential to improve economic conditions in rural areas and their contribution to the national economy. It also identifies the primary challenges to developing these industries and proposes strategies for overcoming them. Findings suggest that rural industries have the potential to reduce poverty, create employment, and increase household income, contributing significantly to Afghanistan’s rural development. However, inadequate infrastructure, limited investment, and market access remain substantial barriers. This study aims to examine the role of rural industries in the development of rural areas and their impact on Afghanistan's national economy. Additionally, it seeks to identify the challenges and opportunities for developing these industries and propose strategies for improving their current state. In this study, I aim to address the following questions: What role do rural industries play in the economic development of rural areas in Afghanistan? What are the major challenges to the development of rural industries in Afghanistan? And how can the potential of rural industries be harnessed to strengthen the national economy?, This review study utilizes both analytical and descriptive approaches and relies on credible scientific sources and field data. The information collected includes academic articles, government reports, and statistical data related to rural industries in Afghanistan. Data analysis is conducted descriptively and analytically, focusing on the economic, social, and environmental impacts of rural industries. The findings indicate that the development of rural industries can significantly improve the economy of Afghanistan's rural areas. These industries, by creating employment opportunities, increasing income, and reducing poverty, play a key role in strengthening the national economy. Additionally, the identification of challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and insufficient investment highlights the primary barriers to the development of rural industries in the country.

Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, organizations face the challenge of improving operational efficiency and fostering innovation while maintaining service quality and employee well-being. This conceptual study develops a comprehensive framework that integrates leadership styles, technology integration, Total Quality Management (TQM), and sustainable business practices to drive organizational performance and innovation. The framework draws on existing literature to explore how transformational, servant, and knowledge-oriented leadership styles influence employee well-being, creativity, and organizational learning, and how these leadership approaches moderate the effects of technological advancements, such as Business Intelligence (BI) tools and blockchain. The study highlights the role of TQM in enhancing service quality, customer satisfaction, and retention, particularly in sectors such as healthcare. Additionally, sustainable business practices, including environmental and human resource sustainability, are shown to foster innovation, reduce operational costs, and improve organizational reputation. By focusing on multi-sector contexts, particularly in developing economies, the research provides insights into how organizations can achieve long-term growth and competitiveness by integrating these key elements. The study also suggests future research directions, including empirical validation of the framework, sector-specific studies, and investigations into the role of emerging technologies. This research contributes to the growing body of literature by offering a holistic approach to understanding the interconnectedness of leadership, technology, TQM, and sustainability in driving organizational success.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Shopee's digital marketing strategy from a business law perspective, focusing on the interaction between innovative marketing practices and compliance with applicable legal regulations. Shopee, as one of the leading e-commerce platforms in Southeast Asia, has succeeded in attracting consumers through various digital marketing strategies, including the use of social media, influencer marketing, and data-driven promotions. However, in implementing these strategies, Shopee is faced with significant legal challenges, including personal data protection, fair marketing practices, and compliance with consumer protection and e-commerce laws. The research method used is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach, involving an in-depth analysis of Shopee's marketing policies and a review of related legal regulations. Data were obtained through literature reviews, analysis of Shopee's policy documents, and interviews with practitioners in the fields of law and digital marketing. The results of the study show that Shopee implements various innovative and responsive marketing strategies to consumer behavior. For example, the integration of big data technology in understanding user preferences and creating a personalized shopping experience. However, this study also found potential violations of the law, such as the risk of misuse of consumer data and lack of transparency in marketing practices. This raises questions about Shopee's responsibility as an e-commerce platform provider in protecting consumer rights. This finding indicates the need for a more proactive approach in ensuring regulatory compliance and creating a balance between marketing innovation and legal protection.
