Abstract

This study investigates topic continuity and referential cohesion in the song “Perfect” by Simple Plan using Givón’s quantitative model. The objective is to analyze how various types of anaphoric references, including zero anaphora, definite pronouns, third-person pronouns, and possessive pronouns, function to maintain coherence and convey emotional meaning within the lyrics. Employing a qualitative descriptive design supported by quantitative analysis, the research examines the referential distance (JR), potential interference (PI), and topic continuity (TC) in each clause of the song. The data consist of all anaphoric expressions identified in the lyrics, collected through close reading and clause segmentation. The findings reveal that the song heavily relies on first and second person pronouns to construct an intimate and emotionally charged discourse. Zero anaphora is used selectively to create immediacy, while third-person and possessive pronouns support abstract and personal references. The absence of indefinite pronouns reflects the song’s focus on specific interpersonal conflict. These results suggest that Givón’s model is applicable to expressive, non-traditional texts such as song lyrics. The study contributes to the field of stylistics and discourse analysis by demonstrating how referential cohesion shapes meaning in emotionally driven narratives.

Abstract

Cirebon City has high local cultural wealth, ranging from batik, craft art, to traditional culinary, seen from this potential, the creative economy sector in Cirebon City is still relatively small contribution (BPS, 2022) . The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a purposive approach through interviews, observations, and analysis using content analysis. This research shows that creative economy actors in Cirebon City have a high enthusiasm for advancing local culture, through product innovation. However, intersectoral coordination remains weak. The government has facilitated programs such as training and product promotion, but understanding of the concepts of the creative economy and city branding remains unequal. Cross-sector collaboration and strengthened communication strategies are needed to optimize the potential of local culture in building a city's image.

Abstract

Power losses in electrical distribution systems are a major challenge that can reduce the efficiency of energy delivery. This study focuses on reducing such losses in medium-voltage distribution networks, particularly on the Sindanglaut Feeder at the Ciledug customer service unit of the State Electricity Company. The analysis employed load flow simulations using ETAP 12.6.0 software, with an optimization strategy of increasing the cable cross-section from 150 mm² to 240 mm² to assess its impact on voltage drop and distribution efficiency. Simulation results indicated that, prior to optimization, the average active power was 1.40 kW, reactive power was 5.75 kVar, and voltage drop was 3.28%. After optimization, these values decreased to 1.13 kW, 5.16 kVar, and 2.76%, accompanied by a significant reduction in total power losses. These findings demonstrate that cable size adjustment based on technical analysis is effective in improving distribution system performance and can serve as a reference for developing efficient, data-driven distribution networks.

Abstract

Currently, the use of social media is increasing, with Instagram being popular in Indonesia. In October 2023, there were 104.8 million Instagram users in Indonesia. The Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program launched by the government aims to provide healthy food for vulnerable groups, especially children. This study aims to analyze the meaning of posts related to the Free Nutritious Meal issue on Instagram using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. This study is qualitative descriptive, describing and analyzing the meaning of Instagram posts about the MBG program. This method focuses on the interpretation of visual and textual signs, and their influence on public understanding. This study shows that visual and text posts on the Instagram account @tempodotco related to the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program not only function as information media, but also form deeper meanings through visual and narrative signs. By using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, namely through three levels of significance: denotation, connotation, and myth, it was found that the MBG discourse strategically presents the state as the main actor that is "present", "cares", and "saves" the people from the nutritional crisis.
