Abstract

Technological progress is accelerating causing changes in various things. One of the impacts of technological advances is the rapid use of the internet. Talking about the internet, of course, it is very closely related to social media, Instagram for example. Instagram is one of the social media platforms that is currently loved by the public. Many active users on Instagram use this flatform as a medium of personal or business information. This study aims to find out how much influence Instagram has on the formation of self-identity that occurs in Generation Z in Communication Science Students FISIP Gunung Jati University, after knowing and using Instagram as a place to build self- identity. This was triggered by Generation Z who flocked to use Instagram as a place to build their identity. The Instagram application is also one of the applications that are popular with Generation Z because it has many interesting features in it. Generation Z often accesses Instagram features, causing them to experience changes in terms of attitudes, behavior, and even language. The method used is qualitative research, in this study using the type of qualitative research initiated by Sugiyono (2014) in (Kristanto, 2018) that the qualitative research method is a method based on the philosophy of post positivism used to examine the condition of an object that is natural rather than experimental. Data collection techniques are combined, data analysis is inductive/qualitative and qualitative research findings emphasize meaning rather than generalization. The conclusion of the results obtained from this study is that generation Z in using Instagram is meant to be in intense use. The motive shown by generation Z is the formation of self-identity by performing selves. They have certain goals that will ultimately affect the formation of their Self-Identity.

Abstract

Saat sekarang, kebutuhan coworking space mampu menjadi tempat bagi para pekerja kreatif untuk menghasilkan karya kolaboratif yang cerdas dan inspiratif. Ruang tersebut perlu dimanfaatkan salah satunya dalam pembinaan seni dan budaya masyarakat khususnya angklung sebagai salah satu konsep pengelolaan wilayah bagi pengelolaan aset, infrastruktur, dan fasilitas, yang terprogramkan pula di Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati sebagai dunia pendidikan dengan berbasis kearifan lokal dan di Dinas Komunikasi, Informatika dan Statistika Kota Cirebon yang memiliki binaan dan program layanan publik dengan mensosialisasikan kembali angklung dalam beragam media dan kegiatan. Metode yang digunakan dengan melakukan sharing, simulasi, pengambilan gambar dan tanya jawab disesuaikan dengan tema yang meliputi :sharing, simulasi dan pengambilan gambar Pagelaran Angklun, serta tampil di Televisi pada acara talkshow yang tayang di RCTV Kota Cirebon secara live pada hari Rabu 8 Desember 2021 pukul 20.00 sd 22.00 WIB dan YouTube serta Facebook. Adapun Masyarakat merekomendasikan memelihara eksistensi seni angklung sebagai ekstrakurikuler di sekolah-sekolah, beragam event, ataupun tampil di cafe. Dkis juga memberikan kesempatan pada Mahasiswa MBKM Magang Industri maupun yang Jobtraining untuk turut serta.

Abstract

This study is entitled "Semiotic Analysis of Existentialist Feminism as the Character "Judy" in the Zootopia Animation Film for Students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Swadaya University Gunung Jati". The animated film Zootopia produced by Clark Spencer is an animated adventure-comedy genre film produced by Disney in 2016. The film Zootopia tells the story of a rabbit named Judy Hopps who lives in the town of Bunnyburrow. Judy has a dream to go to Zootopia, a city where all animals can coexist harmoniously and Judy has a dream to become a rabbit policeman for the first time in that city. So in this case, the researcher formulates the problem, namely how the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth of existentialist feminism character "Judy" in the animated film Zootopia. The purpose of this study is to find out the meaning of the scenes in the animated film Zootopia by looking at the denotative meanings, connotative meanings and myths related to Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminism values ​​in the character Judy. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis. Based on the results of research conducted by the author, it can be concluded that the meaning of denotation in each scene already describes the value of existentialist feminism in the character Judy. Focusing on each scene that depicts Judy's expressions and conversations in determining the path of life she aspires to. Then the connotative meaning, in every scene in the film is related to the value of existentialist feminism, namely how the hidden meaning contained in each scene is like how Judy as an existentialist feminist shows and fights for her existential freedom. Meanwhile, the meaning of the myth that the author finds in every scene in the film is related to the value of existentialist feminism, namely things that are believed by film audiences, for example, as a woman, you must know the purpose of life as well as struggle and maintain your ideals. Through the myth built by the character Judy in the animated film Zootopia, there is a myth that spreads with the term 'Assembling upstream, swimming to the shore' in other words, if you want to be successful, you have to be brave enough to work hard first. Abstract

YouTube has become a platform that makes it easy for its users to exchange messages. On this platform, a new phenomenon has emerged regarding virtual streamers who use avatars to interact with viewers on their YouTube channels. This study uses a qualitative method with a netnographic approach that emphasizes direct observation with visual materials in collecting data and in-depth interviews with 2 informants. The researcher aims to formulate an interaction process that is woven from existing communication patterns, which will produce certain outcomes. The researcher made the virtual idol PLAVE the subject of the study and found that the interactions carried out by the virtual idol with his fans formed a communication pattern that encouraged the formation of a virtual community. In this community, there was finally an exchange of messages that influenced each other. Therefore, a strong sense of loyalty and emotional synchronization was formed between the virtual idol and his fans.

Abstract

Instagram is just one of several social media programmes made possible by the latest developments in digital technology. Instagram is more than just a virtual communication tool, but helps teenagers also build their self-image through its many functions. This study aims to uncover how Cirebon teenagers' self-image building works on Instagram, as well as their purchasing habits. The research methodology, particularly the qualitative approach. Results were obtained from an extensive literature review, in-depth interviews, and participant observation. Erving Goffman's dramaturgical perspective was used to examine the data obtained. Teenagers in Cirebon use Instagram as a dramaturgical tool to shape their self-image, according to the research conclusion. Their front stage consistently displays positive aspects and the best material, helping them cultivate a positive self-image and get positive reactions from fans. In addition, Instagram users' real lives are very different from their Instagram appearances, and often users do not want other users to know the ins and outs of their personal lives, including the steps used to create their Instagram appearances.

Abstract

The Korean Wave (Hallyu) phenomenon is the impact of the presence of the internet, one of which is Korean drama.  The great interest in Korean dramas has led to the formation of the K-Drama Lovers community.   Korean dramas can be accessed by viewers via legal streaming platforms.  However, this platform is starting to be challenged by the existence of illegal platforms via social media, such as TikTok.  The distribution of Korean dramas via the TikTok account @ngedrakor_yukk is done by uploading parts of Korean drama episodes in a row in short video format.  The research aims to understand the motives for using the TikTok account @ngedrakor_yukk as a Korean drama streaming platform through the Uses and Gratifications Theory approach.  The research subjects were followers of the TikTok account @ngedrakor_yukk. The research used qualitative methods with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and literature studies.  The research results show that the motive for watching Korean dramas on the TikTok account @ngedrakor_yukk is driven by four motives, most followers use the information motive to look for recommendations and ratings of Korean dramas on the TikTok account @ngedrakor_yukk, some followers use the personal identity motive to seek inspiration from the drama's moral values  Korea on the TikTok account @ngedrakor_yukk,  some followers use social integrity motives to interact with fellow Korean drama viewers on TikTok, and most informants use entertainment motives to seek enjoyment from entertaining Korean drama content accompanied by attractive TikTok features.

Abstract

Bullying is one of the social deviant behaviors that often occur in all environments, including schools. This study aims to determine the description of bullying and the meaning of signs contained in the series “Pyramid Game” on social media X through semiotics using Charles Sanders Pierce's theory. Each scene in this drama is decomposed into signs, objects, and interpretations that describe the dynamics of bullying behavior. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with a semiotic approach to analyze and explain how the meaning of signs regarding bullying occurs. The results of the analysis show various forms of bullying, ranging from physical violence, threats, sexual harassment, to social exclusion. Teachers have a major role in creating a safe, comfortable, and moral learning environment. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the importance of awareness and action to prevent and overcome bullying behavior, both in the school environment and society at large. Netizens responding to these scenes provide a deep understanding of the importance of awareness about negative behavior: bullying.

Abstract

Background: The digital era has changed the behavior of students who are very responsive to technology, especially social media. However, social media has a different role and impact on their life. Purpose: This study aims to find out the interest of Indonesian and Philippines students in using social media, to find out their activities and their opinions about their social media usage. Method: This study used qualitative descriptive with purposive sampling resulting in eight people as informants spread across Indonesia and the Philippines. Results: This study found that almost all students use and have social media accounts. They use it to access education, and entertainment and to increase their local, national, and international knowledge, especially among those who participate in the Merdeka Learning program, while Philippines students participate in the international lecture program. With the existence of social media, they rarely watch television, radio, and newspaper, although there are some Indonesian informants who still like to read newspapers, there are differences in the interest in using social media by Indonesian and Philippines students. Indonesian students use social media such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Telegram, Meanwhile, Philippines students use Facebook more when interacting with their campus friends. The students see social media changed the pattern of their daily life, for example, the lack of direct social interaction and the increase of cybercrime, while the positive impact of social media is the ability to do storytelling on social media, making it easier to communicate. Conclusion: Philippines students use Facebook more than popular social media such as Instagram and Tiktok, in contrast to Indonesian students who primarily use Instagram and Tiktok. Implication: That both Filipino and Indonesian students utilize social media, but there are differences in their preferences and usage pattern.

Abstract

This research aims to find out and examine the role of leadership in improving employee work discipline in the Cirebon City Transportation Service, whether it is going well or not. The research method used is a qualitative research method. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, interviews and documentation. The location of this research is the Cirebon City Transportation Department. Researchers determined informants using purposive techniques. In this research, the informants were divided into two, namely key informants, Head of the Cirebon City Transportation Service and secondary informants, employees of the Cirebon City Transportation Service. Data analysis techniques, data collection, data reduction or simplification, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Researchers obtained data and information obtained from various sources with in-depth knowledge, including the Head of Department and his employees. The results of research regarding the leadership role of service heads in improving employee work discipline in the Cirebon City Transportation Service must be able to improve work discipline so that employees work in accordance with the regulations in the Cirebon City Transportation Service.

Abstract

Media convergence is the integration of various platforms in the presentation of information that has become a phenomenon of the journalism industry. This research aims to analyze media convergence in improving the quality of journalistic work and the journalism industry's interpretation of media convergence. With a focus on changes in readers' content consumption habits. This research uses a qualitative approach. This data collection technique uses observation, interviews using purposive sampling techniques, and written document analysis. The unit of analysis of this research involved the general manager and journalists of Radar Cirebon as well as 3 students as news readers. The results showed that Radar Cirebon has implemented media convergence as a response to technological developments and changes in reader consumption patterns that want fast access to news and various formats. However, some aspects of convergence such as information presentation and ad bundling tactics still need to be optimized. The conclusion of this study confirms that although all dimensions of convergence have been implemented, evaluation and training of competent human resources are needed to improve the quality of journalistic works on various platforms of Radar Cirebon
