Abstract

Restorative justice is a new paradigm in the criminal justice system that focuses on restoring harm and social relationships caused by criminal acts, rather than merely punishing the offender. This study aims to examine the implementation of restorative justice in Indonesia, particularly in cases involving juvenile and minor offenses, using a normative juridical research methodology and literature study approach. The findings show that restorative justice is effective in preventing children from entering the formal justice system, reducing psychological impacts, and strengthening substantive justice values and local wisdom. Its implementation is supported by several legal frameworks, including Law No. 11 of 2012, Supreme Court Regulation (PERMA) No. 4 of 2014, and National Police Regulation (Perkap) No. 8 of 2021. However, challenges remain due to limited understanding among law enforcement officers, low public awareness, and inadequate facilities and infrastructure. Therefore, systemic support through officer training, public dissemination, and infrastructure enhancement is necessary to realize the principles of restoration, reconciliation, and shared responsibility effectively.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has had a significant impact on various aspects of life, including Islamic preaching (dakwah). This study aims to analyze the opportunities and challenges of utilizing AI in the development of dakwah content in the digital era, particularly among the younger generation. Using a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with eleven participants consisting of students, lecturers, and dakwah activists within the Faculty of Technology and Science Education (FPTI) at the Indonesia University of Education (UPI). The findings indicate that AI is perceived as a potential tool to accelerate, expand, and simplify the dissemination of religious messages through creative formats such as short videos, podcasts, animations, and Islamic chatbots. Respondents believe that AI can make dakwah more adaptive, interactive, and relevant to the needs of the digital generation. However, the study also identifies several critical challenges, including the risk of misinformation, AI’s limitations in capturing spiritual dimensions and scholarly lineage (sanad), and the potential reduction of dakwah into mere superficial entertainment. Therefore, AI should be positioned as a strategic assistive tool in dakwah, not as a replacement for the authority of scholars (ulama) and preachers (da’i), who continue to play a central role in preserving the authenticity of Islamic messages. The study concludes that the use of AI in dakwah holds positive prospects if managed ethically, critically, and responsibly through collaboration among preachers, dakwah institutions, and technology developers.

Abstract

This article examines the historical background and main ideas of two major schools in classical Islamic theology, Jabariyah and Qadariyah. These theological movements emerged as responses to the fundamental question concerning the relationship between human free will and the absolute power of Allah SWT. The Jabariyah school asserts that all human actions are predetermined by divine decree (qadha and qadar), leaving no room for free will. In contrast, the Qadariyah school maintains that human beings possess freedom of choice and moral responsibility for their actions. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a library research approach to explore the theological foundations, historical contexts, and points of convergence and divergence between the two schools. The findings reveal that the debate between Jabariyah and Qadariyah was not merely theological but also carried political and philosophical dimensions, exerting a significant influence on the subsequent development of Islamic theology.

Abstract

The increasing population and intensity of food service activities have contributed to a substantial rise in cafeteria waste volume. This organic waste, characterized by its complex nutrient and moisture content, poses serious environmental challenges, particularly through greenhouse gas emissions resulting from conventional landfill practices. Within the framework of the circular economy, this study explores the potential of bioconversion of cafeteria organic waste using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae as an innovative and sustainable waste management solution. A quantitative experimental method was employed to evaluate the efficiency of waste mass reduction and to analyze the added value of the resulting BSF larvae as an alternative feed ingredient. The findings demonstrate a high effectiveness of BSF larvae in reducing waste volume, as indicated by an optimal Waste Reduction Index (13.98%), an efficient bioconversion rate (96.34%), and a favorable Feed Conversion Ratio (1.04). The process proved to be rapid and cost-efficient, with an operational cost of approximately IDR 3.5 million per month, generating both economic and environmental value.

Abstract

This research discusses the Maturidiyah school of thought (its history and teachings). The objectives of this study are: to understand the history of the birth of the Maturidiyah school, to understand the teachings of the Maturidiyah school, to identify the theological group of Maturidiyah, and to understand the doctrines of Maturidiyah theology. The author employs a qualitative research method. To collect data, the author utilizes literature by analyzing various references relevant to the topic discussed, both in Indonesian and foreign languages. In addition, the research sources also include primary data. The result of the research is that his full name is Imam Abu Mansur Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Mahmu Al Maturidi. He is called Al Maturidi based on the name of the small village where he was born, namely Maturid, which is located around Samarkand. Al Maturidi and the followers of the Maturidiah school believe in the existence of objective evil related to an action, and that the human mind is capable of judging the goodness or badness of an act. They seem to categorize actions into three groups: the category whose goodness cannot be fully understood through reason, the category whose evil cannot be fully understood by reason, and another category whose good and bad are not clear to reason. For this last category, goodness and badness can only be understood through sharia (religious law). The al-Maturidiyah school includes several points: First, the obligation to recognize God, where according to al-Maturidi, reason has the ability to inform the necessity of knowing God. Second, concerning goodness and badness, al-Maturidi (and also followers of Maturidiyah) acknowledges the existence of objective evil inherent in the act itself, and that reason can understand the goodness and badness of some actions.

Abstract

This study discusses the background of the emergence as well as the principals of thought of two early theological schools in Islam, namely Khawarij and Murji’ah. Both schools were born from political upheavals after the death of the Prophet, especially during the conflict between Ali ibn Abi Talib and Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan. The Khawarij flourished as a radical group that disbelieved perpetrators of grave sins and rejected rulers’ perceived unjust authority. Instead, Murji’ah presents as a reaction to a situation fraught with accusations of infidelity by postponing the assessment of one’s faith and leaving it to Allah. This research uses a literature study-based descriptive qualitative approach, with thematic and comparative analysis to understand the differences in faith concepts, political attitudes, as well as the theological impact of both schools. The results of the study show that Khawarij and Murji’ah occupy two extreme poles in understanding the relationship between faith and charity: Khawarij are hardline and revolutionary in nature, while Murji’ah tends to be moderate and tolerant. This study affirms the importance of moderation as a middle path in avoiding extremism and overly permissive attitudes in religion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating the tahfiz program into the learning of Qur’an and Hadith at Madrasah Mis Muhammadiyah Desa Foa. Such integration is considered essential, as memorizing the Qur’an not only serves as an academic achievement but also provides a solid foundation for deepening the understanding of Islamic teachings. This research employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the integration of tahfiz with Qur’an and Hadith learning significantly enhances students’ comprehension. This is evident from their ability to connect memorized verses with the context of the lessons, as well as from improvements in conceptual understanding and the application of Qur’anic values. Supporting factors include students’ intrinsic motivation, teacher competence, and a conducive school environment, while challenges involve heavy memorization loads and limited classroom time. The study concludes that integrating tahfiz into Qur’an and Hadith learning is an effective strategy to improve educational quality, provided that it is managed carefully to maintain a balance between memorization and comprehension.

Abstract

This one-cycle classroom action research (two meetings) aimed to improve the early reading skills of second-grade students at SDN Sonit through the implementation of picture series media with accompanying texts. The learning activities were carried out in four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 21 students. The instruments used included tests of reading accuracy, reading speed (words per minute), literal comprehension, and a checklist of reading errors (substitution, omission, and inversion). The results showed an increase in the total score from 58.6 in the pre-action stage to 73.2 in the first meeting and 81.9 in the second meeting. Reading speed improved from 37 to 60 words per minute. The use of picture series with accompanying texts helped students understand story sequences and connect sounds with meaning, thereby improving reading fluency without reducing accuracy. These findings suggest that integrating relevant visual and textual elements can serve as an effective alternative strategy for teaching early reading in lower elementary grades.

Abstract

Religious development among lower-income communities presents unique challenges and characteristics. The main issues encountered include cultural factors and limited living conditions, which often make these communities closed and exclusive. Therefore, implementing religious development within such communities requires a special paradigm and approach. This research is a field study employing a qualitative approach aimed at exploring data obtained directly from the field. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed descriptively to provide an overview of Religious Development through a Sociocultural Approach in the Community of Camba Berua Sub-district, Makassar City. The findings reveal that in the context of spiritual development—particularly among lower-income communities—the sociocultural approach model plays a crucial role. Every community possesses its own culture, which not only represents their creative expression but also serves as a social bond that fulfills their collective needs. The sociocultural approach in spiritual development is more accommodative toward specific cultural values in an innovative and creative way, without diminishing the essential aspects of religiosity. This model is particularly suitable for the community of Camba Berua in Ujung Tanah District, Makassar City. At least two forms of sociocultural approaches can be applied in religious development: the comprehensive approach and the sympathetic-suggestive approach. The comprehensive approach implies that the internalization of religious values within a community should consider the existing social and cultural values of its environment. The sympathetic-suggestive approach emphasizes creating a comfortable and non-threatening atmosphere during the process of religious development. Ultimately, religious community development aligns with one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting Quality Education.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively describe Sufism in the digital era: The Relevance of Maqamat Wa Ahwal in addressing the spiritual crisis of modern Muslims. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach through searching various documents, in the form of books, scientific journals, academic articles, and other scientific works that discuss the concept of maqam and ahwal in Sufism. The results of this study indicate that maqamat is a spiritual position or stage achieved through mujahadah and riyadhah which must be passed through stages, while ahwal is a condition or characteristic that is never attempted, but is purely a gift from Allah. Maqamat and Ahwal are very relevant in answering the spiritual crisis of modern Muslims by using the maqam (stages) Al-taubah, Al-Zuhud, Al-Wara, Al-faqr, Al-shabr, Al-tawakkal and Al-ridha and ahwal which have parts including Al-muraqabah, Al-khauf, Al-raja’, Al-syauq, Al-Uns, Al-Thuma’ninah, Al-Musyahadah, and Al-yaqin. These concepts will be a guideline for humanity to achieve true closeness to Allah SWT even though Muslims are often distracted by modern life.
