Abstract

Scientific writing is the main academic expression for students to convey ideas, research findings, and intellectual contributions. However, the quality of scientific papers often faces linguistic challenges, particularly in word choice (diction) and sentence construction. Inaccurate diction may lead to ambiguity, imprecise terminology, and an unprofessional impression. For instance, using the term “river water volume” instead of “river discharge” may reduce data validity and cause misunderstandings. In addition, lengthy and ineffective sentences hinder readers’ comprehension and contradict the characteristics of academic language, which should be concise, formal, and objective. This study employs a library research method by reviewing books, scientific articles, and language guidelines, as well as analyzing sample sentences from students’ academic writings. The findings reveal that accurate diction improves semantic precision, while effective sentences strengthen arguments and facilitate understanding. These results emphasize the importance of linguistic competence as a fundamental factor in academic writing. Students need to develop the habit of using academic vocabulary, conducting self-editing, and referring to references such as the KBBI and PUEBI, so that their scientific works not only meet formal requirements but also achieve high quality and contribute to the advancement of knowledge.

Abstract

Comparative political studies confront a fundamental paradox: the similarity of authoritarian systems between two countries does not guarantee identical economic outcomes. In Southeast Asia, Singapore (implementing an authoritarian system, lacking natural resources but prosperous) and Myanmar (implementing an authoritarian system, rich in natural resources but experiencing economic crisis) are two examples. This study aims to analyze the disparity in economic outcomes using Douglass North's institutional theory. This study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach, and data collection was conducted through literature review. The findings suggest that Myanmar implements a hard authoritarianism (extractive state) where informal institutions (military patronage and kleptocracy) cripple formal institutions, creating destructive incentives. Conversely, Singapore implements a soft authoritarianism (developmental state) where informal institutions (meritocracy and anti-corruption) strengthen pro-market formal institutions, encouraging productive investment. Thus, the primary determinant behind the extreme disparity in prosperity between these two countries is not the type of political regime but rather the quality and congruence of institutions.

Abstract

The feed industry faces significant challenges in managing organic waste and ensuring a sustainable supply of animal protein. The implementation of circular economy principles through bioconversion using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae offers an innovative solution to reduce waste while generating high-value biomass. This study aims to evaluate and compare the performance of BSF larvae in processing two types of waste substrates—fish scale waste (P1) and canteen food waste (P2)—to identify the most optimal feeding medium. A quantitative experimental method with a comparative design was conducted within an operational feed production environment. Bioconversion effectiveness was assessed using three key indicators: bioconversion percentage, Waste Reduction Index (WRI), and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR). The results demonstrated the superior performance of canteen food waste (P2) as a feeding substrate. P2 achieved the highest bioconversion rate at 96.34%, surpassing P1, which reached 78.52%. Additionally, P2 exhibited a faster decomposition rate with a WRI value of 13.98% (P1: 12.79%) and better feed efficiency, as indicated by a lower FCR value (1.04) compared to P1 (1.27). These findings confirm that canteen food waste (P2) provides the most favorable substrate for enhancing BSF larval performance and optimizing organic waste bioconversion.
