Abstract

This study conducts a systematic literature review to synthesize the financial and marketing determinants of banking performance in Indonesia. Drawing on Scopus-indexed empirical studies, the review integrates evidence on how traditional financial fundamentals, such as capital adequacy, asset quality, liquidity, and operational efficiency and marketing-based constructs, including service quality, customer satisfaction, loyalty, trust, and digital banking adoption, shape bank performance outcomes. The findings indicate that financial determinants remain the dominant predictors of profitability and stability, reflecting the prudential orientation of Indonesia’s banking regulatory environment. At the same time, marketing determinants increasingly function as strategic complements by enhancing customer retention and revenue stability in a competitive and digitally mediated market. However, the literature remains fragmented, with limited integrative models explicitly linking financial robustness to customer-based value creation. This review contributes by mapping dominant determinant clusters, identifying methodological and conceptual gaps, and proposing directions for integrative future research. The findings offer practical implications for bank managers and policymakers in designing performance strategies that are simultaneously financially robust and market-responsive to support sustainable competitiveness in Indonesia’s banking sector.

Abstract

Sarcasm has become a prominent linguistic phenomenon in digital communication, particularly in netizen comments on social media platforms. The absence of face-to-face interaction and non-verbal cues encourages users to employ indirect and implicit language strategies, including sarcasm, to express criticism, dissatisfaction, and social attitudes. This study aims to examine sarcasm in netizen comments from a pragmatic perspective in order to understand how meaning is constructed beyond literal interpretation. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach using a literature review method. Data were collected from relevant books, peer-reviewed journals, and previous studies focusing on pragmatics, sarcasm, and digital discourse. The analysis synthesizes theoretical concepts and empirical findings related to sarcasm as a pragmatic strategy in online communication. The results indicate that sarcasm functions as an indirect speech act influenced by contextual factors such as social norms, shared knowledge, and communicative intentions. Sarcasm is commonly used to convey criticism, express emotions, and negotiate social identity in digital spaces. In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of pragmatic analysis in interpreting sarcastic expressions in netizen comments and contributes to a deeper understanding of meaning-making processes in online discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze influencers' linguistic strategies in building digital public opinion through a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The background of this study is based on the increasing role of social media influencers as digital opinion leaders who not only convey information but also construct social reality through persuasive and ideological language practices. Although various previous studies have highlighted aspects of credibility and engagement , the linguistic dimensions and power relations in influencer discourse are still relatively understudied. This study uses a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach with Fairclough's three-dimensional model that includes text analysis, discursive practices, and social practices. The research data consists of 15 public opinion content from three social media influencers selected purposively based on the level of interaction and issue relevance. The data were analyzed through transcription, discourse segmentation, thematic coding, and critical interpretation stages to identify lexical strategies, syntactic structures, modalities, framing, and representations of social actors. The results show that influencers systematically use evaluative diction, high modality, metaphors, and polarization strategies to frame issues and build certain ideological positions. At the level of discursive practice, the use of inclusive pronouns and personal narratives strengthens the legitimacy of opinions and creates symbolic closeness with the audience. At the level of social practice, influencer discourse operates within a hybrid digital power structure—encouraging public participation while simultaneously reproducing the logic of attention commodification. This study concludes that digital public opinion is formed through structured, rather than spontaneous, discursive processes, and that influencer language plays a strategic role in the construction of social reality. Theoretically, this study expands the application of Critical Discourse Analysis to the study of digital influencers; practically, these findings contribute to strengthening society's critical literacy regarding social media discourse.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital communication has significantly transformed students’ written interaction patterns, particularly through messaging platforms such as WhatsApp. This study investigates changes in sentence structure in students’ WhatsApp communication from a digital syntax perspective. Employing a quantitative descriptive analytic approach, the research analyzes 1,850 sentences extracted from 1,200 text messages collected from three academic WhatsApp groups over a three-month period. The analysis focuses on syntactic completeness, structural reduction, and dominant sentence patterns. The findings reveal that 58% of the analyzed sentences exhibit structural modifications, including subject ellipsis, predicate omission, fragmentation, and simplified single-clause constructions. Subject ellipsis emerges as the most frequent pattern, indicating a strong reliance on shared conversational context. Complex compound sentences appear less frequently, reflecting a tendency toward syntactic simplification and communicative efficiency. Reliability testing demonstrates high inter-coder agreement, confirming the consistency of classification results. These findings suggest that syntactic changes in digital communication are systematic adaptations to the characteristics of instant messaging environments rather than random deviations from formal grammar. The study provides preliminary evidence that digital syntax forms a distinct communicative pattern within semi-formal academic contexts. The results offer a foundation for further validation and extended investigation into the broader implications of digital communication practices on students’ formal writing competence.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of local cultural values in digital poetry in the post-Instagram era. The rapid development of digital media has significantly reshaped literary production and distribution, particularly poetry, which has shifted from print-based formats to multimodal digital platforms. In this context, local cultural values are no longer presented solely through textual symbolism but are reconstructed through visual, audio, and performative elements influenced by algorithmic systems and audience engagement patterns. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using critical discourse analysis and digital semiotics. The data consist of 50 digital poems published after 2022 across various social media platforms, selected based on their incorporation of Indonesian local cultural elements and significant audience interaction. The analysis focuses on identifying forms of cultural representation, examining patterns of transformation, and interpreting their implications within the digital ecosystem. The findings reveal three primary forms of transformation: symbolic reduction, contextual reinterpretation, and aesthetic commodification. Symbolic reduction occurs when complex cultural meanings are simplified to align with fast-paced digital communication. Contextual reinterpretation reflects the adaptation of traditional values to contemporary issues such as identity and social awareness. Meanwhile, aesthetic commodification emerges when cultural elements are strategically utilized to enhance visual appeal and digital visibility. The study concludes that digital poetry serves as both a space for cultural preservation and a site of negotiation between tradition and digital modernity. While digital platforms expand the reach of local culture, they also risk simplifying its depth due to algorithm-driven visibility and audience preferences. This research contributes to the interdisciplinary study of digital literature, cultural transformation, and media sociology in contemporary Indonesian literary discourse.
