Abstract

This research explores the role of local wisdom and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in stunting prevention within the Arjowinangun community, Malang. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through interviews with parents of stunted children and healthcare workers, as well as through document analysis. The findings reveal that a lack of parental awareness and knowledge about stunting, compounded by the disruption of healthcare services during the pandemic, contributed to the persistent prevalence of stunting in the community. The pandemic further exacerbated the problem by causing interruptions in vital public health campaigns and community support systems. Misinformation surrounding COVID-19, fear of visiting healthcare facilities, and traditional practices not aligned with modern nutritional guidelines also hindered effective stunting prevention. This study underscores the need for enhanced education and culturally sensitive interventions that integrate local beliefs with evidence-based health strategies. By adopting a multifaceted approach that combines local knowledge, community engagement, and modern healthcare, efforts to combat stunting can be more effective, even in times of crisis.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of local government in Malang City in addressing poverty through a collaborative governance approach. Malang remains a key contributor to East Java's poverty rate, making it a complex case for poverty alleviation. Using qualitative methods, the research evaluates institutional frameworks, structural relations, and advocacy coalitions in the government's poverty reduction strategies. Findings show that although poverty reduction is aligned with key documents like the RPJMD 2016–2021, there is no formal legal framework for collaboration. Cooperation between government bodies occurs mostly horizontally, with minimal involvement from NGOs and the private sector. Additionally, a lack of integrated coordination limits the effectiveness of collaborative governance. The limited participation of external actors weakens advocacy coalitions, reducing the impact of policies. This study contributes to the discourse on improving institutional performance and collaboration in poverty alleviation, emphasizing the need for a stronger multi-sectoral approach. The findings suggest practical recommendations for reinforcing collaborative frameworks to address poverty challenges more effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to re-evaluate the quality of public services provided to hotel and restaurant taxpayers in Malang City. Using comparative analysis, this study examines the differences between perceived and expected service quality by taxpayers. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey involving 100 hotel taxpayers and 95 restaurant taxpayers. The survey measured five dimensions of service quality, namely reliability, responsiveness, certainty, empathy, and physical evidence. The results showed that although the majority of service users were satisfied with the quality of service received, there was a significant gap between taxpayers' expectations and perceptions, especially in terms of speed of service and transparency of information. These findings highlight the importance of innovation and the application of digital technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public services, as well as the need to simplify administrative procedures. This study provides strategic recommendations for local governments, especially the Malang City Regional Tax Service Agency (BPPD), to improve service quality through digitalization, improving information systems, and increasing staff capacity. This study also underlines the importance of better communication with the public and developing policies that support transparency and accountability in the delivery of public services.

Abstract

This study explores soil fertility optimization strategies in Bandulan Village, Sukun District, Malang City, through a chemical analysis approach. The main focus of this study is to identify soil chemical parameters such as pH, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), which affect agricultural productivity in urban areas with limited land. The methods used include laboratory testing and field observations to provide a comprehensive assessment of soil conditions. The results showed that soil fertility in the study area was at a moderate level, with pH varying from moderately acidic to slightly acidic, and N, P, and K contents ranging from low to moderate. These conditions can inhibit plant growth if not managed properly, especially in soils with a more acidic pH. This study offers recommendations for farmers and policy makers to improve efficient soil management through the use of organic fertilizers, technology-based soil fertility monitoring, and the adoption of environmentally friendly agricultural practices. Thus, it is expected to support the sustainability of agriculture amidst the pressures of urbanization and environmental change.
