Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning model on students™ learning outcomes in the subject of Work and Energy in class X SMA Negeri 1 Saipar Dolok Hole. This type of research is a quasi-experimental. The population of this research were all of students X MIPA and the samples were X MIPA 1 as the experimental class and class X MIPA 2 as the control class, each class consisting of 30 people. The instrument was in the form of 10 essay test which have been validated. Learning outcomes were measured through the pre-test and post-test. Based on the results of the study, pre-test mean value of the experimental class was 30,17 and for the control class was 26,33. The results of testing the hypothesis obtained tcount<ttable=1,750<2,002 using α=0,05, it means experiment class and control class have same ability. And for post-test, mean value of the experimental class was 81,60 and for the control class was 74,30. From the calculation of t-test one side, obtained tcount<ttable=2,895<1,671 using α=0,05 So, there was the effect of Discovery Learning model on students™ learning outcoes of Work and Energy material in class X SMA Negeri 1 Saipar Dolok Hole.

Abstract

This research aims to determine students' understanding of the equilibrium of rigid body topic by four-tier diagnostic test. This research was conducted in one of the schools in North Sumatra for students in class XI IPA in the 2023/2024 school year, totaling 53 students. Sampling was done by simple random sampling method. Data collection techniques include tests, interviews, and questionnaires. The test instrument used was a valid four-tier diagnostic test with a test reliability value of 0.719 which amounted to 20 items from 14 question indicators. Student results are categorized as student understanding which is divided into Scientific Conception (10%), Rarely Misconception (17%) caused by students being wrong in determining the reason, Negative False (14%) caused by students who are wrong in answering the question but correct in giving reasons, Lack of Knowledge (31%) caused by students who were unsure of the answer they chose, and Misconception (28%) due to students' ability to solve calculation-based problems and image analysis but have confidence in their answers on the topic of Equilibrium of Rigid Bodies.

Abstract

The ability to think at a higher level (HOTS) refers to the cognitive thinking process of students at a higher level, which evolves from various cognitive concepts and learning taxonomies, such as problem-solving methods. Based on the observations conducted by researchers at SMAN 5 Medan, the current assessment does not prioritize problem-solving skills. This research aims to develop a test instrument that can measure problem-solving skills in students with a high level of validity and reliability. The method used in this development is the research and development model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). In summary, the steps in this development include 1) problem identification and analysis. 2) designing a problem-solving test instrument. 3) developing the problem-solving test instrument to a suitable level. 4) testing the problem-solving test instrument on a small and large scale. 5) analysis the validity of the test instrument and the quality of test items. The result of this research is a developed problem-solving test instrument in the form of essays, meeting the criteria for a high-quality test instrument, and suitable test items.

Based on the data analysis, the results of expert validation yielded a material expert validation score of 88.16% with a category of very feasible, and a media expert validation score of 90.7% with a category of very feasible. The results of the practicality test on a small scale showed that the ease aspect obtained a percentage of 91.3%, the attractiveness aspect obtained a percentage of 91.8%, and the usefulness aspect obtained a percentage of 90.2%. The results of the large-scale trial showed that the e-module obtained a highly practical category, reaching 92.6%. The ease aspect obtained a percentage of 93.2%, the attractiveness aspect obtained a percentage of 94%, and the usefulness aspect obtained a percentage of 90%. Both small and large-scale tests yielded a highly practical category. The effectiveness test showed that the average pre-test score obtained by students was 37.66, and the average post-test score was 89.6%. Based on the N-gain test, it was found that the average N-gain score of students was 0.84 or 83.94%, which is interpreted as having high effectiveness. Therefore, the product developed in this study is considered feasible, practical, and effective in supporting students' self-directed learning process on the topic of work and energy and can improve students' learning outcomes
