Abstract

Jatropha curcas L. leaves are known as one of the traditional medicinal ingredients. Jatropha leaves contain nutritious substances such as Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Tannins, and Saponins which have the ability as an antibacterial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas ekstrak etanol daun jarak pagar terhadap bakteri Stapphylococcus epidermidis dan Propionibacterium acnes secara in vitro. The method used in this study is experimental, including the collection and processing of Jatropha curcas (Jatropha curcas L.) samples, macroscopic and microcospic examinations, phytochemical screening, antibacterial effectiveness testing using diffusion method using disc paper, and using one-way analysis of data analysis methods. (One Way Anova). The results of ethanol extract of Jatropha leaves were able to inhibit bacterial growth ranging from concentrations of 110%, 125%, 250%, 300%, 350% and as a positive control using a tetracycline comparison. This research shows that the higher the concentration, the wider the inhibition zone formed.

Abstract

Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) is a plant from tropical and sub-tropical regions, including Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential for roselle flower infusion (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. This type of research is experimental research. In this study, the infusion of rosella flower crown was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The process of making rosella flower crown infusion (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) using aquadest solvent. Using the disc diffusion method to measure the clear zone in millimeters (mm) for bacteria. Antimicrobial inhibition of rosella flower crown infusion (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at a concentration of 75%; 50%; 25% and 12.5% ​​had an inhibition zone diameter of 12.7 mm; 10.5 mm; 7.8 mm and 7 mm. Antimicrobial inhibition of rosella flower crown infusion (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) against Escherichia coli at a concentration of 75%; 50%; 25% and 12.5% ​​had an inhibition zone diameter of 12 mm; 11 mm; 7.5 mm and 6.6 mm. The results of the phytochemical screening carried out in this study showed that the roselle flower crown (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) contained flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. These results indicate that the infusion of roselle flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.

Abstract

Herbal ingredients can have potential as drugs that can be used in the health sector such as antibacterial. Tannins (Tanic Acid) are an example of a class of compounds that have the potential to be developed as herbal medicinal ingredients. Measurement of total tannin levels in this study was carried out on ethanol samples of marasi fruit (curculigo latifolia) using the Uv-Vis spectroscopy method. The sample preparation process is carried out in the stages of sorting, cleaning, washing, drying and making simplicia. The extraction method is carried out by the maceration method. The extraction results for 3 x 24 hours with a cycle of 3 times showed that the tannin content obtained from the sample was 2.09 ppm with the linearity curve obtained was y = 1.52 x + 0.015 and r2 = 0.997.

Abstract

Andaliman fruit (Zanthixylum acanthopodium DC) is known to have benefits for treating intestinal tracts, treating nausea, asthma, anti-cancer, antioxidants, high blood pressure, and canker sores. The purpose of this study was to determine whether andaliman fruit has antioxidant activity with the DPPH method. The method used in this research is an experimental method, with the stages of collecting plant material, identifying samples, making simplicia, making reagents, characteristics of simplicia, screening phytochemicals, making extracts from andaliman fruit, preparing tools, testing the antioxidant activity of andaliman fruit extracts with the DPPH method. The antioxidant activity test used the DPPH method and then made a control solution and a Vitamin C solution. In this study, the DPPH solution produced a maximum wavelength of 517 nm. The results obtained showed that andaliman fruit extract had very weak antioxidant activity seen from the IC50 value, which was at a concentration of 239.061 ppm. The results of the phytochemical screening of Andaliman fruit contain secondary metabolites, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, glycosides.

Abstract

Galangal leaves contain essential oil of approximately 1% greenish yellow essential oil which mainly consists of 48% methyl-cinnamate, 20% - 30% cineol, eugenol, 1% camphor, sesquiterpen, δ-pinen, galangin. Galangal raw materials can produce essential oil, besides that galangal raw materials are easy to obtain and cheap, so the processing can be developed to obtain an oleoresin product by an extraction process using the MAE (Microwave Assisted Extraction) method so as to produce oleoresin products. This study aims to determine the effect of extraction time using the Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE) method on total phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, and the antioxidant activity of red galangal oleoresin. The results showed that MAE long treatment had a significant effect (p <0.05) on all observed variables, namely phenolic levels, flavonoid levels, tannin levels and antioxidant activity. The longer the MAE time, the tended to increase the levels of the observed variables, all of the observed variables, namely the flavonoid level 0.6109 mg.QE / g.

Abstract

A study concerning the determination level total of flavonoid and phenolic of White Tumeric Rhizoma Extract. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels total, flavonoids and phenolics of White Tumeric Rhizoma Extract. Extraction of chemical constituents of White Tumeric Rhizoma Extract performed by maceration method using methanol until the filtrate was clear. Determination level total of flavonoid and phenolic was conducted using spectrophotometry UV-Vis. Total flavonoid was tested using a quercetin standard and total phenolic content was tested using standard gallic acid. The results were obtained with concentrations of total flavonoid is 4,8%.

Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the digestive disorders characterized by loose, liquid and watery bowel movements (defecation) with a frequency of three times a day accompanied by cramps in the stomach. This disorder is caused by a bacterial infection and an imbalance between the mechanisms of absorption and secretion of water and electrolytes in the intestinal tract and is accompanied by hypermobility. In Indonesia, diarrheal disease is the second cause of death for children under the age of 5 years. Indonesia is a country that has the 2nd highest biodiversity with a diversity of medicinal plants, especially in the treatment of diarrheal diseases. The research method is carried out using a literature review with online media based on the Web, Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, ResearchGate, Google Scholar used for publication. The results show that there are medicinal plants used as diarrhea medicine (antidiarrhea) consisting of 14 orders, 16 families, and 19 species, namely Acorus americanus (Far.) Raf., Ageratum conyzoides L., Blumea balsamifera (L).DC., Bischofia javanica Bl., Dioscorea alata L., Allium cepa L., Psidium guajava L., Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf., Kalanchoe pinnata (Lam.) Pers., Uncaria gambir (Hunter) Roxb., Lansium domesticum Correa., Nephelium lappaceum L., Strobilanthes crispus Blume., Solanum nigrum L., Solanum torvum Sw., Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam., Carica papaya L., Curcuma longa L., and Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.

Abstract

Red watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris (Schard.) Fursa. is a fruit that is very popular with the Indonesian people because of its sweet, crunchy taste and high water content, and is rich in vitamin C. The fruit is eaten fresh or made into juice. This study aims to know the vitamin C content in red watermelon juice with variations in temperature and heating time. The research method was experimental design using a thermoreactor to measure the vitamin C content at variations in temperature and heating time. The samples used came from the Berastagi Tanah Karo area. The results showed that heating the best watermelon juice at a temperature of 30°C and heating time can affect the decrease in concentration in watermelon juice with a good time to use 15 minutes and 30 minutes.

Abstract

Infectious diseases are one of the health problems because they cause new infectious diseases caused by antibiotic resistance. So it is necessary to search for new antibiotic agents that are sourced from natural ingredients such as jackfruit plants. Jackfruit plant (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) has many benefits ranging from roots, stems, leaves, fruits and seeds. Jackfruit plant has pharmacological properties as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimalarial, antifungal activity, cytotoxic, tyrosinase inhibitory activity and antimicrobial. The purpose of this study was to determine the study of jackfruit plants that have potential as antimicrobials. The research method was carried out using a literature review with online media based on the Web, Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, ResearchGate, Google Scholar used for publication. The results showed that jackfruit has antimicrobial activity due to the content of bioactive compounds such as: tannins, flavonoids, catechins, artocarpin and artocarpanone. Jackfruit plant parts that have the potential as antimicrobials are the leaves, jackfruit skin, seeds and roots. Jackfruit plants have potential as antimicrobials against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus mutans, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Plasmodium falciparum, and Vibrio cholera.

Abstract

Infectious disease is a serious health problem in the world of health. Escherichia coli causes diarrhea, Salmonella typhi causes typhoid fever, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa causes nosocomial infections which are Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria. Treatment with antibiotics is the therapy that is currently used, but other efforts in the use of herbal medicines are also being carried out in various studies. The purpose of this study was to analyze the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The method used is agar diffusion (Kirby-Bauer) with variations in the concentration of the test solution. The results showed that at a concentration of 500 mg/mL the three bacteria had an inhibition zone diameter of Escherichia coli with a value of 12.37±0.15 mm, Salmonella typhi with a value of 11.60±0.20 mm and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a value of 10.87±0.15 mm. The ethanol extract of avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) showed antibacterial activity against three Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria.
