Abstract

Purpose of the study: To analyze the students' gendered expectations and evaluation on advising skills and mentoring practices of the Local Thesis Advisory Committee (LTAC) members in the Camarines Norte State College situated in Daet, Camarines Norte, Philippines for academic year 2022-2023. Methodology: The study used descriptive quantitative research design. The respondents of the study were comprised of 42 male, 55 female, and 8 LGBTQ+. A face-to-face interview using survey questionnaire was employed to gather the data and data gathered were analyzed using frequency and percentage distribution as well as the computation of mean. The results were presented in tabular format. Main Findings: The findings revealed differences in preferences for advisor traits as males expected expertise and logical presentation skills, females wanted more guidance in developing the topic and structuring analysis, while LGBTQ+ students desired compassion, interest, and constructive feedback. The male group evaluated advisors as excellent in intelligence and inquisitiveness, while female group in honesty, explicitness, and refined feedback, and for LGBTQ+ advisers as excellent in compassion. All groups faced challenges securing approval and navigating panel perspectives. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study reveals that students, regardless of gender, recognized the importance of advising and mentoring in successfully completing the undergraduate theses. It also emphasizes how higher education institutions can address gender equality and improve thesis writing policies, ensuring that all student across gender groups receive tailored support for a more effective advising experience.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research study aims to explore the specific roles women play in this field, the disparities they face compared to men, and their coping mechanisms. Methodology: A mixed-methods approach was used for this research, combining quantitative data from household surveys and desk reviews with qualitative data from key informant interviews. The study reviewed relevant research papers, articles, and reports, including project progress reports, published journals, guidelines and policies related to waste collection, and research reports from other researchers and policymakers. Main Findings: The research findings revealed that women's family status significantly impacts their economic decisions, often leading them to work for pay to support their families. Household surveys showed that women comprised 64% of respondents, and 54% had no schooling. Additionally, 37% of respondents were aware of women's roles in providing for their families, while key informant interviews with community organizations confirmed this understanding. While the study found that 60% of respondents believed that increased women's rights would not compromise men's rights, 40% disagreed. Some respondents expressed concerns about men losing their privileges if women gained more rights. However, the study concluded that women's contributions to household income should be valued more, and that collaborative efforts are needed to achieve gender empowerment and economic management. Novelty/Originality of this study: Through this research, the master plans for solid waste management will be developed and the partnership with private sector will be strengthened to improve waste management practices and increase income for waste collectors.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The main purpose of the study was to examine the extent of service-learning integration and the enhancement of global citizenship competencies. Methodology: Descriptive-correlational research design was employed in this study. Four hundred six (406) respondents from the different institutes of Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmarinas, a locally funded higher education institution, were surveyed. Pearson product-moment correlation and stepwise multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the collected data. Main Findings: Results revealed that HEI teachers integrated service-learning approach into instructional materials designing and development, course expectations and learning standards, assessment tools and procedures, classroom management and learning environments, and lesson planning and teaching strategies to a great extent. Direct learning and research-based activities were the dominant service-learning types used for the HEI curricula. Furthermore, the global citizenship competencies indicated a significant relationship with and were influenced by the components of service-learning. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research provides a theoretical perspective about how service-learning approach influences the acquisition of global citizenship competencies among students, making them more ready and eligible for thriving in the demands of the future.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study investigates first-year students' perceptions and the impact of technology integration on English language learning at the National University of Battambang (NUBB). Methodology: The research garthered data from 205 students across various majors through purposive sampling and a structured questionnaire. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, independent sample t tests, one-way ANOVA, and regression analysis. Main Findings: The findings indicate that online searches and computer software are the most frequently utilized tools, with mobile apps and software perceived as highly effective for enhancing language skills. Students exhibit positive attitudes toward technology, contributing to improve learning outcomes. While no significant gender differences were observed in most areas, female students demonstrated lower levels of technology integration compared to males. Additionally, age did not significantly influence general technology use but affected perceptions of its effectiveness in supporting language learning. Notably, technology-assisted language learning (TALL) had the strongest positive impact on English learning outcomes. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study is original as no prior research at the National University of Battambang (NUBB) has focused on first-year students' perceptions or the impact of technology integration on English language learning. By surveying 205 freshmen from various majors using a quantitative approach, it provides a unique baseline for understanding how technology supports language acquisition in this context, addressing a critical research gap at the institution.

Abstract

Purpose of the Study: This study aims to explore the Bara’an tradition of the Bengkalis Malay community and analyze its character values to be utilized as a source for strengthening character education in Islamic Religious Education learning at schools. Methodology: This research employs a qualitative approach with an analytical-descriptive method. The study was conducted in Pangkalan Batang Village, Bengkalis District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. Data were collected through field studies, literature reviews, and interviews, which were then analyzed in accordance with the research objectives. Main Findings: The findings reveal that the Bara’an tradition is similar to halal bi halal but has unique local adaptations in Bengkalis. The tradition involves handshaking and seeking forgiveness, sharing meals, reciting shalawat (Marhaban), and concluding with a prayer led by an imam or group leader. The core character values reflected in the Bara’an tradition include religiosity, nationalism, independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity, which align with Indonesia’s national character education framework. Novelty/Originality of this Study: This study provides a new perspective on integrating indigenous Malay traditions into character education, specifically in Islamic Religious Education learning. It offers a thematic integration model, demonstrating how traditional cultural values can be systematically incorporated into the Islamic Religious Education curriculum to strengthen students' moral and ethical development.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to explore Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialist perspective on human existence, emphasizing radical freedom and the responsibility of individuals in defining their own meaning in life. The research investigates how Sartre's concept of existentialism positions humans as autonomous subjects in constructing their essence. Methodology: This study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing a literature review method. The primary sources include Sartre’s major works, such as Being and Nothingness, along with secondary analyses from contemporary existentialist scholars. Data are analyzed through content analysis to examine Sartre’s views on freedom, responsibility, and self-determination. Main Findings: The findings reveal that Sartre perceives human existence as devoid of inherent meaning, compelling individuals to create their own purpose through conscious choices. His concept of bad faith illustrates the tendency to escape from existential responsibility, whereas authentic existence requires embracing radical freedom. Sartre’s framework highlights the psychological tension between autonomy and existential anxiety. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers a fresh interpretation of Sartre’s existentialism by relating his views to contemporary issues of identity, freedom, and personal responsibility. It extends the discussion of existentialist ethics in modern society and provides a deeper analysis of Sartre’s influence on current philosophical and social discourses on human autonomy.
