Abstract

This article aimed at analyzing the reflection of social stratification in a twentieth-century-spectacular movie, TITANIC. The study used descriptive method, and the data were analyzed using genetic structuralism approach which is essentially the combination between intrinsic approach and extrinsic one. The analysis showed that in social life, the members of society were divided into some classes (high and lower classes). This classification differentiated the degree of life of human being and surely affected the condition of people's life: the way they acted, the way they talked, the way they treated and viewed others, and even in love. A high class girl, Rose DeWitt Bukater, met with a third class passenger, Jack Dawson. They were in love, but because they came from different family background, they had to face challenges which prohibited them to be together, especially from Rose's family. They never gave up until they were finally separated by destiny. Jack became one of the victims who died in the great disaster when the ship sank. Keywords: Reflection, social Stratification

Abstract

Greek literature, originating in Greece, has influenced generations across Europe, introducing genres like poetry, tragedy, comedy, and western philosophy. Ancient Greek mythology often depicted women as deceitful and manipulative, reflecting patriarchal society. This study contrasts the portrayal of women in Ancient Greek literature and modern-day literature, focusing on the female protagonists Medea, Clytemnestra, and Jocasta. It examines how these women, through their actions in Medea, Agamemnon, and Oedipus Rex, challenge societal norms and grapple with issues of power, identity, and autonomy. Feminist perspectives highlight how these ancient figures resonate with modern concerns about individuality and gender equality, revealing a long-standing tension between societal conformity and personal agency. This research will delve into the roles of female characters aware of their social position and, thereby, gradually emerging as rebellious and defying figures in their society. This paper  elaborately discusses how societal conventions define women as either ideal or evil, based on male standards. By exploring gender expectations across literary eras, the study offers insights into how women navigate these constraints and highlights new avenues for feminist literary discourse. Abstract

This study examines the use of code mixing on the YouTube channels of beauty vloggers Tasya Farasya and Nanda Arsyinta. It seeks to examine the various forms of code mixing according to Muysken's (2000) theory as well as the fundamental causes of the two beauty vloggers' language mixing in their videos according to Saville-Troike's (1986) theory. Based on Saville-Troike's theory (1986), 3 types of reasons were also found that underlying speakers' code-mixing, namely to strengthen requests or commands (5), lexical need (84), and to exclude other people (54). Additionally, the researcher found one reason that was not included in the Saville-Troike theory because the researcher felt that the three reasons put forward by Saville-Troike were not enough to cover all the extracts found. Apart from that, to strengthen the new reasons found, the researcher watched other videos from the two beauty vloggers and then concluded that because of habits are one of the appropriate reasons to use as a basis for speakers to mix their languages.
