Abstract

This study aims to find out whether the application of film as a learning medium can improve the English vocabulary skills of the subjects. The subjects of this study were students of the Bahasa Inggris D4 or commonly called Business English Communication study program class of 2020. The sample consisted of 30 students from class A and B. In carrying out this study, data was obtained by giving 2 tests and treatment. The treatment in question is watching a movie called The Founder. The results of the study show that the 2020 students' Business English Communication vocabulary skills are still lacking . This can be seen from the results of test 1 which only obtained an average result of 69.7 while test 2 was 62.8 and the use of film as a learning medium. still has a small impact on the vocabulary mastery of Business English Communication 2020 students. Based on the findings above, the researcher concludes that the use of film as a learning medium does not have a major impact on the vocabulary of Business English Communication 2020 students because it can be seen from the low test results they obtained.Keywords: English, Vocabulary Mastery, Impact, Movie

Abstract

This research is based on students’ motivation is still low, it is necessary to update in improving students' motivation and teachers' creativity in managing learning process. The purpose of this research was to identify whether the use of Quizziz application increases the students’ motivation in learning English at the 11th Grade of SMK YPKK Limbung and whether the use of Quizziz application as a medium for giving English exercises increases the students’ motivation in learning english at the 11th Grade of SMK YPKK Limbung. This research uses a quantitative approach method. The subjects of this research were all 24 students from XI.5 of SMK YPKK Limbung. the result showed that the mean of pre-test was 66,67% and the post-test was 80,42% and overall average score of students questinnaire obtained is 51.20. It means students’ motivation of the used Quizziz application are positive. Keyword: quizizz, students’ motivation, student’s achievement

Abstract

The aim of this research was to discover the perception of administrative employees at the Ministry of Religion in Gowa regarding the use of the Microsoft Excel application, as well as the types of work that use Microsoft Excel and how the data or work is processed using Microsoft Excel at the Ministry of Religion in Gowa. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method with data collection through interviews and data analysis carried out through data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion/verification steps. The results show that the majority of administrative employees of the Ministry of Religion in Gowa have a positive perception of the use of the Microsoft Excel application. The Ministry of Religion affairs employees acknowledges that the Microsoft Excel application helps in completing administrative tasks, especially in employee data management. Work that is commonly done with Excel includes grouping data, making calculations, processing documents, and making attendance lists, and policies. In the Diniyah Education and Islamic Boarding Schools (PD Pontren) field, Excel is used to process letters and received documents, check and classify data, and type Excel formulas. The processed data is sent through the WA application (WhatsApp), the Kemenag website, or the institution's email due to changes in flow caused by the pandemic. Based on these results, the Microsoft Excel application is very helpful for employees to complete their work with better effectiveness and efficiency. However, there are still difficulties and mistakes in using formulas and functions, especially for those who are less familiar with Excel. Some employees still need further information on how to use this application. Therefore, training or further introduction to the Microsoft Excel application is needed to improve the skills and administrative performance of employees in the Ministry of Religion affairs in Gowa. It is suggested that the Ministry of Religion affairs in Gowa provide facilities to improve computerization, especially in the use of Microsoft Excel, and hold training programs to help employees improve their skills in using the software.Keywords— Microsoft Excel, Administration, Data Processing, Perception

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the teachers’ questioning strategies during the classroom Interaction and the reason why the English teacher used their questioning strategies. The English teachers at SMAN 4 Takalar were the subjects of this study. In this study, the method conducted descriptive-qualitative. The instrument of this study was used observation checklist and interview protocol. Observation and interviews were used to collect data on all activities in the classroom. The results of the study indicate that teachers employed several questioning strategies in the classroom, including rephrasing, simplification, repetition, decomposition, and probing. These strategies were used for various purposes based on the functions associated with each strategy. The reason why teachers used these specific questioning strategies is likely due to the functions associated with each strategy. Teachers may have used rephrasing, simplification, repetition, decomposition, and probing to assess students' comprehension, draw their attention, support their contributions in class, and seek clarification or confirmation. These strategies help teachers gauge student understanding, encourage active participation, and create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.Keywords— Teachers’ questions, questioning strategies, classroom interaction

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the students’ achievement and anxiety by the implement of the think pair share method teaching speaking skill at SMA Insan Cendekia Syeh Yusuf Gowa. The study is designed in this study was quantitative with post-test and pre-test of the students tenth grade SMA Insan Cendekia Syeh Yusuf Gowa's academic year 2022-2023. The population of this study is class X was used as the sample, and it was chosen using a random selection procedure. The findings demonstrated that the mean scores of post-test of students was greater than the mean pre-test scores; the post-test mean score was (90.5333), whereas the mean score pre-test was (81.0667). The score from the alternative hypothesis (H1) is approved, hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The results of this study indicates that implementing THINK PAIR SHARE to students in Class X of SMA Insan Cendekia Syeh Yusuf Gowa was significantly improved the students’ achievement and reduce speaking anxiety. Abstract

This study aims to determine whether using pictures improves students' vocabulary mastery. Using research method pre-experimental research design conducted with a sample of 27 class VII.A students using a purposive sampling technique. Researcher used pretest and posttest to collect data. The results of data analysis show that by using pictures improved students' vocabulary mastery, even though the improvement in students’ vocabulary was a slight improvement. This is evidenced by the students' mean score before treatment (48.00 points), lower than the mean score after treatment (71.62 points). Because this study's significance value  (0.000) is less than  its significance value (0.05), H0 in this study is rejected, whereas Ha is accepted.. So it can be concluded that using pictures can improve the vocabulary mastery of class VII.A students at SMP Negeri 3 Marioriawa.Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Picture

Abstract

Bangladesh is one of many such countries that are in immediate need to imply concepts of environmental to deal with crises like water, climate change, and so on. Green pedagogy is a permanent process in which individuals and communities become aware of their environment and learn the knowledge, values, skills, and determination to act individually and collectively to solve present and future ecological problems. The purpose of the incorporation of ecological education into teaching English language is to raise ecological awareness of global ecological problems. To be able to take part in this solution process English language learners should especially have critical thinking and critical reading skills. Ecological education practices can be incorporated in English language teaching by fostering critical skills with the suggested approach and authentic texts on ecological issues can be used as classroom material for this purpose. Thus there is a need for a practical framework to guide teachers in the effective implementation of environmental and sustainability concepts in English as a second language.Keywords: Teaching, second language, green pedagogy, sustainability, environment, Bangladesh

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to find out (1) the teacher classroom implementation of storytelling strategy in speaking class in Junior High 17 Barru; and (2) the student’s perception on the impact of storytelling strategy to their speaking achievement in Junior High 17 Barru. This research applied qualitative method. The participants of the study were two English teachers and five students from Junior High School 17 Barru. The subjects were chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The data collected were observation checklist and interview. The results of this study showed that (1) the teacher classroom implementation of the storytelling strategy in teaching the speaking class, teacher A choose discussion group as strategy in class and teacher B provides individual attention and based on the strategies used  had the potential to improve vocabulary to the students and helped the students to build confident in speaking (2) the students perceptions on the impact of the storytelling strategy on their speaking achievement are that it helps build their confidence in speaking by telling stories in front of the class and enables them to expand their vocabulary by creating their own stories.Key words--  Blindfold,  Junior  high  school,  and  Vocabulary  mastery

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out the implementation of Quipper School platform in English teaching as used by the teacher, to find out the students’ perception toward the implementation of Quipper School platform, and find out inhibiting and supporting factors in implementing Quipper School in English teaching. The researcher used mixed method. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Makassar. The subject of the research consisted of one English teacher and 25 students from class XII IPA 3. The data were obtained through observation checklist, interview, and questionnaire. The result of this research revealed that the teacher implemented five stages in the implementation of Quipper School as platform in English Teaching. Then, the students’ perception of the implementation of the Quipper School platform in teaching English used two instruments i.e., interview and questionnaire. Based on the students’ interview, most gave positive perception toward the platform used by the teacher in teaching and learning. The students’ perception regarding Quipper School was very good to use. The students feel very interested in learning English. Quipper School can increase the students’ learning motivation. Then, Quipper School platform makes it easier for students to understand learning and adds insight. Meanwhile, the questionnaire shows that the students’ perception of interest and motivation were neutral, and the students’ perceptions of the facilitating condition was neutral. The last, the inhibiting factors in implementing Quipper School platform are network problem, and internet quota. The supporting factors in implementing Quipper School platform as used by the teacher in class are the material and system quality.Keywords: Implementation, Perception, Quipper School Platform, English Teaching

Abstract

This study aims to identify employee activities in working out the English document. This study used a qualitative method with descriptive design and conducted at Dinas Penanaman Modal dan Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (DPMPTSP) Prov. Sulawesi Selatan. The data of this research were collected through interviews and documents. The data were analyzed in four steps: data collection, data condensation, data display, drawing, and verifying conclusion. The results revealed that English working activities have the basis of writing components that are conceptualizing and writing the content of the documents, arranging and confirming the idea of organization, looking for the meaning and matching appropriate vocabulary, correcting and re-checking English grammar, and correcting the document' mechanism. Based on these results, the English working activities in the office are dominant in a writing activity. The biggest challenge faced by the employee is that there are a lot of Economic topics and terms unfamiliar to the employee and the use of structure. The suggestion is that the employee emphasizes self-study about writing and its components and learns more about the investment field. Moreover, the office provided English training for employees to increase employees' skills and motivation in working.Keywords: English in the workplace, Writing component, Difficulty in writing
