Journal of Educational Management Research is an international peer-reviewed journal which publishes original and significant contributions to educational management, administration, and leadership, in its broadest sense, from all over the world. This includes primary research projects in schools and further vocational and higher education institutions. This journal encourages contributions that respond to important issues in management education. Contributions may be either conceptual or empirical and are welcomed from any topic area and country so long as they primarily focus on management or organization in education. Although our core areas of interest are organizational behaviour and management in education, we are also interested in leadership, public relation, human resource management, social issues in management, financial management, organizational development, critical management studies, etc. Authors are strongly encouraged to have their work reviewed and evaluated by their colleagues prior to submission for formal editorial review.

Abstract

Indonesian pesantren play a pivotal role in Islamic education, particularly in shaping the moral and spiritual character of the younger generation. Amid rapid modernization and technological advancement, pesantren are challenged to remain relevant while preserving their traditional values. This study examines the Qur’anic learning model at Pondok Pesantren Zainul Hasan Genggong, which integrates classical methods such as bandongan, sorogan, and wetonan with innovative, technology-based approaches. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving teachers and students. Findings reveal that the synergy between tradition and innovation enhances the quality of Qur’anic instruction, broadens access to global Islamic scholarship, and strengthens students’ moral and spiritual foundations. From a management perspective, this integration demonstrates how adaptive leadership, resource optimization, and strategic curriculum design can preserve institutional identity while fostering innovation. The model offers a replicable framework for developing holistic, context-sensitive Islamic education systems capable of navigating both heritage preservation and future readiness.

Abstract

This study aimed to enhance young children’s gross motor skills through the traditional “Cat and Mouse” game, which fosters agility, balance, speed, and coordination. Adopting the Kemmis and McTaggart Classroom Action Research model, the intervention was implemented over two cycles with 18 participants (8 girls and 10 boys). Data were gathered through structured observation and systematic note-taking. Results demonstrated marked improvement in gross motor performance, increasing from 44% before the intervention to 66% in the first cycle and 88% in the second cycle. These findings highlight the effectiveness of traditional games as pedagogical tools for physical development in early childhood. From a management perspective, incorporating culturally rooted, low-cost, and easily organized activities into curriculum planning not only enhances developmental outcomes but also improves efficiency in program implementation, resource allocation, and engagement strategies. This approach offers an adaptable model for educators and administrators seeking to balance developmental objectives with practical management considerations.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of leadership on employee work commitment at the Social Affairs Office of West Sumatra Province. The research aims to assess employee commitment levels, evaluate the leadership quality of the head of the department, and examine the significant effect of leadership on work commitment. Using a quantitative correlational design, the study involved 40 employees selected from a population of 67 through proportional random sampling. Data were collected via a Likert-scale questionnaire, preceded by a pilot test with 20 employees. Analysis using SPSS 27 revealed that employee commitment was high (88%) and leadership performance was good (85%). The correlation coefficient between leadership and work commitment was 0.392, indicating a significant positive relationship. The coefficient of determination showed that leadership accounted for 39.2% of the variance in work commitment. These findings highlight the substantial role of effective leadership in enhancing employee commitment within public sector organizations, particularly in the Social Affairs Office of West Sumatra Province.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon that shows that there are still employees whose work productivity and discipline are not optimal in carrying out their duties and responsibilities. The purpose of this study is to obtain data and information about work productivity, discipline and whether or not discipline influences employee work productivity in carrying out their duties in Educationoal Office. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The population in this study was 90 people with a sample size of 73 people based on the Krejcie & Morgan Table taken using a proportional random sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire with a Likert scale that has been tested for validity and reliability.The results of data analysis show that work productivity is in the good category with a TCR of 89%, discipline is in the good category with a TCR of 88%. There is a significant influence between discipline and work productivity with r count 0.588> r table 0.227 and t count = 6.218> t table = 1.992 at a significance level of 5% and an Adjusted R square of 0.337 or 33.7%. Based on the results of the study. The conclusion is that discipline is one of the factors that influence employee work productivity at the Batam City Education Office.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic role of madrasah ibtidaiyah in strengthening character education to shape students’ ethics and morals from an early age, particularly amid growing concerns over moral degradation among the younger generation. Adopting a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with teachers, principals, and students, as well as analysis of learning documents and school programs. The research focuses on the application of a behavioristic approach, emphasizing habituation and reinforcement in shaping student behavior. Findings reveal that character values—such as discipline, responsibility, politeness, and honesty—are integrated into both classroom instruction and daily school routines, including greetings, congregational prayers, and community service. Positive reinforcement through rewards and corrective measures via punishment are applied consistently to encourage desired behaviors. Continuous repetition, modeling, and reinforcement are found to be effective in embedding these values, creating a systematic and well-directed framework for moral and ethical development. The study concludes that a behavioristic approach, when implemented strategically within a religious-based elementary education setting, offers a practical and impactful method for fostering students’ character, ensuring alignment between moral values and daily conduct.

Abstract

This study aims to identify strategies, barriers, and the impact of community empowerment on stunting prevention and provide recommendations for strengthening community-based programs. The method employed was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of scientific publications from 2018 to 2025, obtained through Google Scholar, with strict selection based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analysis results indicate that community empowerment is carried out through three stages: building awareness, increasing capacity, and facilitating independence. Activities include nutrition education, childcare training, yard utilisation, and the formation of local food business groups. The main obstacles faced were low community participation, limited facilities, and socio-cultural constraints. Positive impacts include increased nutritional knowledge, improved healthy lifestyles, and family economic independence. This study emphasises the importance of educational management in the success of the empowerment program. Relevant curriculum management, ongoing training, and data-driven evaluation are key to increasing community capacity and ensuring program sustainability. Cross-sector collaboration and a locally focused, potential-based approach are necessary for achieving long-term benefits.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the fact that some students still behave impolitely when speaking to their peers. Some speak loudly, while others use profanity or social media slang (e.g., “anjay,” “you ask”). This study employs a concurrent mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation. The population consisted of 2,663 students, with a sample of 95 determined using the Yamane/Slovin formula. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS, while qualitative data underwent condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. Results show that teachers’ Human Resources (HR) and parenting quality significantly influence children’s manners. Teachers’ HR mostly met good criteria (68%), parenting quality was mostly very good (70%), and children’s manners were mostly very good (60%). There is a significant influence between teachers’ HR and children’s manners, as well as between parenting quality and manners. Managerial implications suggest that educational institutions should integrate HR management strategies—such as targeted training, performance evaluation, and supportive work environments—to strengthen teachers’ interpersonal and pedagogical skills. This alignment between HR policies and classroom practices can foster a culture of courtesy, thereby shaping students into individuals with strong moral character.

Abstract

This study examines how Social Media Marketing (SMM), Green Consumer Behavior (GCB), and Fashion Involvement (FI) influence Generation Z’s thrifting purchase decisions in Sumbawa Regency. Driven by the rise of the digital economy, growing social media use, and increasing sustainable fashion trends, the research applies an explanatory quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A purposive sample of 100 Gen Z respondents completed a validated 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after classical assumption testing. Findings reveal that SMM, GCB, and FI each have a positive and significant effect on thrifting purchase decisions, both individually and collectively. FI emerges as the strongest driver, showing that passion, interest, and engagement in fashion most strongly shape buying behavior. SMM enhances product awareness and fosters interactive relationships, while GCB motivates eco-conscious choices. These insights offer strategic value for thrifting businesses in non-metropolitan areas: leverage digital platforms for targeted engagement, promote sustainability narratives, and align product offerings with evolving youth fashion trends.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the implementation of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) empowerment program and identify factors that inhibit its implementation. The study used a qualitative case study approach, with data collection through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies. The results indicate that the program has been implemented based on a clear legal basis. Core programs include business management training, the development of new entrepreneurs, and the facilitation of halal certification. Obstacles encountered include budget constraints, low community participation, minimal marketing support, and product legality issues. This study recommends increasing cross-sector collaboration, strengthening post-training mentoring, and optimising digital technology to expand the market for MSMEs. This study offers implications for the importance of integrating practical entrepreneurship into the curriculum, strengthening post-training mentoring, and incorporating digital technology into learning. Vocational education needs to collaborate with the industrial sector and government to create relevant programs that prepare MSMEs to face the challenges of the global market.

Abstract

This research examines the role of authentic leadership in fostering trust and collaboration among teachers in Indonesian school environments. By employing the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research analyses various studies on the application of authentic leadership in the educational context. The research results indicate that school principals who prioritise transparency, integrity, and openness can increase teacher trust and foster a more harmonious work environment. In addition, authentic leadership encourages collaboration between teachers by providing freedom to innovate and share learning strategies. This approach also helps school principals face the challenges of cultural diversity and limited resources through innovative solutions, such as the use of technology and involvement of the school community. Thus, authentic leadership has been proven to contribute to increasing motivation, discipline and the quality of education in Indonesian schools. The implications of this research indicate that implementing authentic leadership can be an effective strategy for increasing teacher trust, collaboration, and motivation in Indonesian schools. Therefore, principals need to develop authentic leadership skills to create a harmonious work environment and encourage quality educational innovation.
