The researcher selected two classes as samples: VII-5 served as the experimental group, comprising 30 students, and VII-4 acted as the control group, also consisting of 30 students. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests administered to both groups. The mean score for the experimental class on the pre-test was 50.70, while the control class had a mean score of 48.70. Conversely, the mean score for the experimental class on the post-test was 75.70, compared to 63.43 for the control class. To gather data, the researcher utilized tests as instruments. The t-test result was 3.676>1.672 at the 5% significance level. This outcome indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, while the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Roundtable Technique has a significant effect on the writing abilities of seventh-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 10 Pematangsiantar.

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of using Canva as teaching media on students' ability in writing descriptive text in the eighth grade of SMP Swata Teladan Pematangsiantar in 2024/2025 academic year. This research used a quasi-experimental design with quantitative methods. For the sample, in the experimental class and control class the number of students was the same, namely 30 people. The experimental class VIII-B and the control class VIII-2 and to analyze the data, researchers used a t-test formula to find out whether using Canva influenced students' writing ability in descriptive text. In the experimental class the average pre-test score was 60.9 and post-test was 77.2 and, in the control class the average pre-test score was 60.8 and post-test was 71.2. For the standard deviation in the class experimental is 369 and the standard deviation in the control class is 296. The result is that the t-test must be the highest of the t-table with a significance level of 5% (6,781 > 1,672). Based on the findings of this research, the researcher concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that using Canva affects students' descriptive text writing skills, particularly in the eighth grade.

The samples were class VII-1 as a control class of 30 students and class VII-5 as an experimental class of 30 students. The experimental class was taught using video tutorial media while the control class was taught using conventional methods. Data was collected by giving pre-test and post-test to both the classes. This research instrument is in the form of essay questions with a total of 1 question. The results showed that the average score of the experimental class was higher than the average score of the control class. The average score of the experimental class in the pre-test was 48.06 and the average score in the post-test was 77. While the average score of the control class in the pre-test was 50.7 and the average score in the post-test was 71.46. Then, after conducting a t-test, the researcher found that the t-count was higher than the t-table (2.91>1.672). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this study was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Abstract

This research aimed to assess the impact of dictation techniques on the ability of students in class VII to write descriptive texts at SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar. The theoretical framework was based on the work of Macon, Bewell, and Vogt. A quantitative research methodology was employed for this study. The population consisted of class VII students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar during the 2024/2025 academic year. The researcher selected two classes as samples: VII-1 served as the experimental group with 32 students, while VII-2 acted as the control group, also comprising 32 students. The experimental group received instruction using the dictation technique, whereas the control group continued with conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests administered to both groups. The average score for the experimental group in the pre-test was 67.46, while the control group had an average score of 68.125. Conversely, the average score for the experimental group in the post-test rose to 84.31, compared to 82.15 for the control group. To gather data, the researcher utilized tests as instruments. The t-test result of 3.00 exceeded the t-table value at a significance level of 5% (1.670). The significance value indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, while the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. This finding suggests that the dictation technique significantly influenced the writing abilities of grade VII students at SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar in composing descriptive texts.

This research aimed to find out the effect of Pick, List, Evaluate, Activate, Supply, End (PLEASE) teaching strategy to writing ability of tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pematangsiantar in writing descriptive text. This research was quantitative research. To get the answer for this research, the researcher used quasi-experimental design. This design involved two classes of the same level. The population of this research was tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pematangsiantar that tenth class. The sample of this research consisted of two classes, namely class X-6 using PLEASE teaching strategy as the experimental class and class X-2 use guided teaching strategy as the control class. To collect the data, the researcher used the test. The researcher used essay test as the instrument of the research. The result of the research showed that the effect of PLEASE teaching strategy was more significant than guided writing teaching strategy. It was proved by then t- test value (2,972)>t-table (1,995). It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.  The ability of students in writing a descriptive text in the experimental class was improved since they were taught by PLEASE teaching strategy. It can be conclude that Pick, List, Evaluate, Activate, Supply, End (PLEASE) teaching strategy has an effect to the writing ability of tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pematangsiantar in a descriptive text. Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of jigsaw teaching techniques on reading comprehension of Grade VII students at UPTD SMPN 5 Pematangsiantar in 2024/2025 school year. This research uses a quantitative research design by applying a quasi-experimental design. In this design, the research subjects were divided into two groups: VII-1 as experimental group and VII-2 as control group. The treatment was given only to the experimental group. The experimental group was treated with the jigsaw technique while the control group was treated without the jigsaw technique. The subjects of this research were seventh grade students (VII-1 and VII-2) of UPTD SMPN 5 Pematangsiantar with 62 students. The researcher used multiple choice questions as an instrument to assess students' reading comprehension. The results of data analysis showed that the mean score of the experimental class increased from 67.81 up to 81.25 while the mean score of the control class increased from 69.21 up to 73.43. A t-test was performed at the 5% significance level. The calculated t-value of 4.25 exceeds the t-table value of 1.670 (t-test > t-table). This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of jigsaw teaching technique has a significant effect on the reading comprehension of seventh grade students at UPTD SMPN 5 Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) To find out the types of figurative language used in Bruno Mars’ song album. (2) To find out the most dominant type of figurative language used in Bruno Mars’ song album. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The type of data for this research is Bruno Mars' songs from the album 24K Magic, namely 24K Magic, That's What I Like, Calling All My Lovelies, Chunky, Versace on the Floor, Finesse, Perm, Straight Up & Down, Too Good to Say Goodbye. In this research, the researchers used Keraf's theory. From the analysis, the results of this research show that the total data of types of figurative language used in the album 24K Magic by Bruno Mars is 32 (100%). The most dominant figurative language style is Eponym. There are 11 (34%) Eponym in the song lyrics, 6 (19%) total personification data, 10 (31%) total metaphor data, and 5 (16%) similes in the song lyrics. The presence of figurative language in songs makes the conveyed message more interesting for the listeners. The author suggests that other researchers continue to analyze figurative language as it can help readers understand the meaning contained in the song lyrics. Another suggestion is for researchers who want to analyze figurative language in song lyrics to use other objects such as novels, films, poetry, etc.
