Abstract

Garena is a global game developer and publisher. Garena provides users with access to popular and engaging online games for mobile and PC, developed, curated, and localized for each market. The Battle Royale genre is relatively new, and this research will evaluate Free Fire, one of the games in this genre made by Garena. Analyzing end-user reviews is considered important for evaluating software quality. Researchers need to understand which aspects need to be evaluated based on player reviews on Google Play and how the model's performance is generated using feedback from players who have played Free Fire. In this study, researchers use the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method to model topics and generate clusters in discussions for each topic. LDA is a generative probabilistic model of a corpus. This research on topic modeling using Google Play reviews and LDA has identified the topics users are most concerned with. The research shows three main aspects: bugs, graphics and performance, and game rules/punishment policy, as aspects that need to be evaluated based on player reviews on Google Play.

Abstract

In the digital era, many manipulative design tactics, commonly referred to as ‘dark patterns’, have emerged. These tactics are designed to hide, mislead, deceive, and even exploit users while using an application. This study explores the dynamics of user perception and their ability to recognize these dark patterns. The study involved evaluating 11 participants through in- depth interviews and exposure to 12 screenshots from Indonesian e-commerce platforms containing these design tactics. Not all participants were able to recognize dark patterns in the screenshots. Those who were able often attributed their awareness to personal experience, highlighting the importance of experiential learning in identifying and understanding deceptive interface elements. However, factors such as unclear interface information, user trust in the interface, and the blending of marketing strategies with dark patterns contribute to the difficulty users experience in recognizing these manipulative tactics. Beyond Indonesia, the findings of this study have broader implications for countries with similar digital ecosystems or socio- economic contexts. Understanding how dark patterns are perceived by users in Indonesia can provide valuable insights for countries with comparable characteristics, particularly in terms of digital literacy levels, trust in online platforms, and regulatory frameworks, where similar manipulative tactics may be prevalent, necessitating a focus on improving understanding of manipulative tactics when interacting with e-commerce applications. This analysis underscores the urgency of increasing user awareness to prevent fraud in design manipulation in e- commerce applications, thereby avoiding user harm. The implications of this study advocate a focus on improving understanding of manipulative tactics when interacting with e-commerce applications, urging digital product practitioners to apply ethical and transparent design principles to improve user satisfaction. There is a need for stricter regulations and clear guidelines to protect consumers from unethical manipulative tactics.

Abstract

The increase in cross-border data transfers has resulted in a surge in data breaches in various jurisdictions. This study seeks to examine the pattern of data breaches in notable incidents, including Facebook (2019), SolarWinds (2020), Tokopedia (2020), and LinkedIn (2021). This research uses a qualitative case study methodology to assess prominent vulnerabilities in data security systems and look at recurring patterns based on the CIA TRIAD (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability) theoretical framework. The findings show that the main weaknesses in data breaches are inadequate encryption, weak software supply chain security, and inadequate API protection. This paper recommends mitigation techniques based on the findings, which include improving encryption, integrating blockchain into the software supply chain, strengthening API authentication, and using artificial intelligence (AI) to identify cyber threats and contributes to improving the understanding of regulations such as GDPR, PIPL (China), and PDP laws (Indonesia) in mitigating the dangers of global data breaches.

Abstract

Malaria remains a serious health threat in Indonesia, particularly in the West Papua Province. To address this, the Indonesian Ministry of Health developed the Malaria Surveillance Information System (E-SISMAL) to monitor and prevent the disease. However, the effectiveness of this system needs to be evaluated to determine how well it performs in addressing the intended problem. This study aims to investigate the system’s performance by integrating the Task-Technology Fit (TTF), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and DeLone & McLean Information Systems (D&M IS) Success models. Data from 108 government health clinics in West Papua Province were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using a partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM). The findings revealed that both service quality (p = 0.035) and ease of use (p = 0.014) significantly influenced user satisfaction (R² = 38.4%), which subsequently affected system performance (p < 0.000, R² = 11.6%). However, information quality and usefulness were not primary concerns for the health clinics in this context. Given these results, it is unsurprising that malaria prevention efforts in this region remain challenging. These findings raise questions about the alignment of the developed system with its objectives, suggesting that it may need reassessment and reconfiguration to achieve its overarching goals. The study concludes with implications and future research directions.
