Abstract

This study explores self-disclosure among adolescents engaged in interfaith friendships. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews with four purposively sampled adolescent females. Analytical techniques included pattern matching, expansion generation, and time series analysis, with source triangulation employed to ensure credibility. The study identified five main themes of self-disclosure in these interfaith friendships: honesty, accuracy, amount, frequency and duration, depth, intent, and the positive-negative nature. Additional themes included the process of self-disclosure, the duration of the friendship, trust, tolerance, and joint activities. The findings suggest that self-disclosure in interfaith adolescent friendships involves sharing and learning about each other's religions, which fosters greater appreciation and tolerance of religious diversity. Future research should examine the long-term effects of self-disclosure in interfaith friendships on adolescents' social and psychological well-being.

Abstract

Resilience, a core concept in positive psychology, plays a crucial role in individuals' ability to navigate and overcome challenges. It encompasses the capacity to adapt and recover from adversity while maintaining focus on personal goals. Key aspects of resilience include: (1) personal competence, high standards, and persistence; (2) reliance on one's instincts, tolerance of negative emotions, and the capacity to leverage stress constructively; (3) positive acceptance of change and secure interpersonal relationships; (4) self-control; and (5) spiritual influences. This study evaluates the construct validity and internal consistency of a resilience scale for adults in Indonesia using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability testing. The results indicate that the scale is both reliable (α = 0.887) and valid, with a well-fitting CFA model. Future research should explore the scale's applicability across diverse cultural contexts and its potential for longitudinal studies to assess resilience over time. Additionally, investigating the scale's sensitivity to different life events could enhance its utility in practical settings.

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out and understand more about self-regulated learning in students who have multiple roles (as housewives and nursing mothers) with good learning performance. Researchers use a qualitative-phenomenological approach to reveal this phenomenon. The research subjects were selected by purposive sampling technique and the data collection technique used was in-depth interviews. The results of this study found that 3 subjects used self-regulation learning in the form of cognitive regulation, motivation regulation, behavior regulation, and emotional regulation. In addition, the subjects also tried to optimize context regulation even though it was not optimal so their learning objectives could be achieved. Self-regulation in learning carried out by the subjects is influenced by several triggering factors and the characteristics of each individual. Social support from family and friends obtained is also considered very helpful for the subjects in the success of their learning regulation.

Abstract

The impact of social media use on mental health remains a contentious issue, with varying evidence reported across studies. Concurrently, the prevalence of adverse life events, a significant global social concern, has been increasing. This study investigates the influence of social media use and adverse life events on depression symptoms among individuals in Indonesia. Using a nationally representative sample of 29,793 participants from the Indonesian Family Life Survey Wave 5, depression levels were assessed via the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scale. To account for the overdispersed nature of count data, a negative binomial regression model was utilized to analyze the effects of social media use and adverse life events on depression. The findings reveal that both social media use and the frequency of adverse life events are significantly associated with higher rates of depressive symptoms. Additionally, the study indicates that depression rates are more pronounced among females and younger individuals compared to males and older adults. Educational programs should be designed to raise awareness about the potential mental health risks associated with excessive social media use. Policy makers should also consider integrating mental health support into disaster response plans to better support individuals experiencing adverse life events.
