Abstract

Grit defined as persistence and passion for achieving long-term goals, has received increasing attention in psychology research due to its association with academic achievement, career, and resilience. Although the Grit-O Scale developed by Angela Duckworth (2007) has been widely used internationally, validated instruments for measuring grit in Indonesian cultural and linguistic contexts are still limited. Therefore, adapting and examining the psychometric properties of such scales is important to ensure their suitability for research and assessment in Indonesia. This research aims to adapt the Grit-O Scale of Angela Duckworth (2007) into the context of Indonesian culture and language. The study involved 153 respondents between the ages of 18 and over 28. The adaptation process is carried out through several stages: (1) translation, (2) synthesis, (3) back translate, (4) readability test, and (5) finalization. Reliability testing was performed using Omega McDonald and stratified alpha composites, while construct validity was checked using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results showed that the adapted scale showed high reliability, with a value of 0.850, and a validity indicating good two-factor model conformity, with RMSEA = 0.043, CFI = 0.990, SRMR = 0.068, and TLI = 0.987. These findings provide preliminary evidence that the Indonesian version of the Grit-O Scale demonstrates acceptable reliability and validity for use in the Indonesian context.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of perceptions of organizational culture on employee engagement, with work motivation as an intervening variable, among employees of PT X. This study employs a quantitative approach using a saturated sampling technique, meaning that the entire population of 160 employees served as respondents. Data analysis was conducted using the Partial Least Squares-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS) method. The results indicate that perceptions of organizational culture significantly influence employee engagement, with a coefficient value of 0.429 (T-statistic = 6.512; p-value = 0.000). Additionally, perceptions of organizational culture significantly influence work motivation with a coefficient of 0.494 (T-statistic = 9.344; p-value = 0.000). Work motivation was found to have a significant effect on employee engagement with a coefficient of 0.268 (T-statistic = 3.420; p-value = 0.000). The mediation test results indicate that work motivation significantly mediates the effect of organizational culture perception on employee engagement with a coefficient of 0.133 (T-statistic = 3.064; p-value = 0.001). The R-square value indicates that 53.1% of the variance in employee engagement is explained by the modelwhile 45.4% is explained by work motivation. Based on these results, it can be concluded that perceptions of organizational culture play a significant role in enhancing employee engagement, both directly and through work motivation as a mediator.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the COMBILE-T intervention in controlling consumer motivation in Gen Z, triggered by easy access to Pay Later services. This study uses a mixed methods sequential explanatory approach. The first stage was conducted using a quantitative experimental method using a pretest-posttest control group design. The second stage was conducted using a qualitative approach through interviews to explain and deepen the results of the quantitative research. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. A total of 16 students from a private university in Semarang who met the inclusion criteria were selected through a purposive sampling technique and randomly divided into an experimental group  and a control group ), each consisting of 8 participants. Data collection instruments were a consumer behavior scale (α = 0.802) and interviews. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test to measure differences within groups, and the Mann–Whitney U test to compare between groups. The results showed that the EG consumer score decreased by an average of 3.63 points, while the CG increased by 1.75 points. The difference in change between the experimental (EG) and control (CG) groups was statistically significant (p = 0.030; p<0.05). Although the decrease in EG scores was not statistically significant (p = 0.128; p>0.05), qualitative results revealed eight themes of positive change, including increased self-control, financial attitudes and literacy, rational decision-making skills, financial management, emotional well-being, self-awareness, and motivation to become an agent of social change. These findings suggest that the Combile-T intervention] is potentially effective in reducing consumer behavior, as indicated by the significant difference in change between the experimental and control groups. The Combile-T intervention demonstrated a significant differential effect compared to the control group in suppressing increased consumer behavior among Gen Z pay-later users.

Abstract

Emerging adulthood is a period of transition and exploration during which, as individuals fulfill developmental tasks, they are vulnerable to experiencing loneliness. This study aims to investigate the mediating role of self-esteem on the association between family functioning and loneliness among emerging adults. This study used a quantitative correlational method and a cross-sectional approach with 139 participants aged 18-29 years. The instruments used in this study consisted of the General Functioning Subscale (FAD-GF), the UCLA Loneliness Scale, and the Self-esteem Scale. The study found that self-esteem acts as a mediator in the relationship between family functioning and loneliness. This finding explains how positively functioning families build higher individual self-esteem, thereby reducing loneliness in emerging adulthood. The implications of this study are expected to serve as a reference for creating psychoeducation or designing family relationship-based interventions by optimizing family function as a core community to increase individual self-esteem and reduce loneliness.

Abstract

Loss is inevitable in human life. One of the most difficult forms of loss for individuals is the death of a parent. In addition to experiencing this profound loss, they also experience depression. Approximately 10-15% of individuals who experience loss experience pathological grief reactions such as depression and prolonged grief disorder. This study aims to understand the crisis experienced by individuals, the risks arising from grief, their adaptation and efforts to cope with grief, and the meaning of loss (of a parent, partner, or other family member). This study used a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with the criteria of adult individuals aged 18 to 40 who experienced the loss of a loved one due to a deadly viral infection during the pandemic. The number of participants in this study was three. Data analysis used phenomenological analysis through the stages of bracketing, intuiting, analyzing, and describing. The results showed four main themes related to loss: risk factors, impact of the loss, overcoming the loss, and meaning. Losing their parents has a significant psychological impact, but individuals are able to achieve psychological balance and build new meaning through an adaptation process that involves self-reflection, social support, and strengthening religious beliefs.
