Abstract

Young people, as a group vulnerable to stress, undergo a transition phase from adolescence to adulthood that introduces them to various pressures and new challenges significantly affecting their psychological well-being. In response to these challenges, they develop various coping strategies to manage issues and regulate their emotional state. This study aims to investigate the challenges and pressures faced by young Muslim individuals, as well as the coping strategies they employ. This research used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data for this study were obtained through interviews conducted with 21 young Muslim individuals (8 males and 13 females). The interview data were subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that young Muslims experience three main stress-inducing issues: personal problems, family issues, and financial difficulties. In tackling these challenges, they adopt diverse stress coping strategies. These coping strategies encompass religious and non-religious approaches that effectively help them manage stress. However, the research also identifies maladaptive coping strategies that do not assist them in effectively dealing with stress. Overall, this study provides insights into how young Muslims confront and respond to the pressures they encounter during the transition from adolescence to adulthood, offering strategic implications for improved psychological interventions and support.

Abstract

Logotherapy, developed by Viktor Frankl, is a psychotherapeutic approach that focuses on the search for the meaning of life as central to the process of healing and mental well-being. The need for an approach that integrates spiritual and cultural values is increasing in the contemporary era. Islam-based logotherapy offers an approach that blends logotherapy principles with Islamic values and teachings, which provides a strong spiritual foundation for individuals in their search for the meaning of life. This approach emphasizes the importance of faith, hope and love as sources of strength in facing life's challenges. Through this integration, Islam-based logotherapy can provide a relevant and effective alternative in the context of an increasingly pluralistic and complex modern society. This research aims to explore the concept and application of Islam-based logotherapy and its benefits in supporting the mental and spiritual health of individuals in the contemporary era. The method used in this research is literature review. The results showed that this approach can enhance psychological well-being by connecting individuals to spiritual values and a greater purpose in life, as well as building resilience in the face of the pressures of modern life. The result of this research is a finding of the Islamic Logotherapy Tree concept scheme which is a theoretical contribution to the stages in implementing logotherapy integrated with Islamic values and organized based on a tree scheme.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine; (1) the effect of self-esteem on optimism, (2) the effect of gratitude on students' optimism, (3) the effect of self-esteem and gratitude on optimism. This study used a quantitative correlational method. Data were collected through a psychological scale of self-esteem totaling 19 items, a psychological scale of gratitude totaling 29 items, and a psychological scale of optimism totaling 35 items that had been tested for expert judgment, tested for validity and reliability so that they were suitable for use. The number of samples taken was 76 which were selected using simple random sampling from a total population of 318 MA Hidayatullah students. Data analysis used multiple linear regression to determine the effect of self-esteem and gratitude on students' optimism. This study found that self-esteem had an effect on optimism with a coefficient value of 0.280 and a sig value of 0.046 <0.05. Then gratitude had a significant effect on optimism with a coefficient value of 0.757 and a sig value of 0.000 <0.05. Self-esteem and gratitude have a positive and significant influence on students' optimism by 53.7%, with self-esteem contributing 28% and gratitude by 75.7%. The remaining 46.3% is influenced by other variables outside this study. This means that every 1% increase in self-esteem will increase optimism by 28%, as well as with the thanksgiving, every 1% increase in gratitude will increase optimism by 75.7%. The results of the F test (42.289) > F table (3.12) and a significance value of 0.000 <0.05, the analysis shows that self-esteem and gratitude together influence optimism so that the Ha3 hypothesis is accepted, which means that self-esteem and gratitude together influence optimism. Based on these findings, BK teachers need to develop programs to improve students' self-esteem and gratitude to increase their optimism, so that students can be more confident and positive in facing challenges.
