Abstract

Anxiety is a common psychological response in preoperative patients, including those undergoing vitrectomy, and it can affect physiological conditions such as increased blood pressure. Unstable blood pressure before surgery may delay the procedure and influence the need for anesthetic drugs. This study aimed to determine the relationship between anxiety levels and increased blood pressure in preoperative vitrectomy patients at the Baitul Ma’ruf inpatient ward of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. This research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach involving 100 respondents selected through total sampling during July–August 2025. Anxiety levels were measured using the Zung Self Rating Anxiety Scale, while blood pressure was measured using a calibrated digital sphygmomanometer at 24 hours and 3 hours before surgery. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents experienced mild anxiety (65%) and mild increases in blood pressure (77%), with a p-value < 0.001 and a correlation coefficient of 0.574, indicating a significant relationship with moderate correlation strength. It can be concluded that anxiety is significantly associated with increased blood pressure in preoperative vitrectomy patients, highlighting the importance of nursing interventions to manage preoperative anxiety in order to stabilize blood pressure and prevent complications or surgical delays.

Abstract

The high number of maternal deaths in Indonesia demonstrates the importance of health promotion efforts, particularly regarding pregnancy planning and reproductive health. This study aimed to determine the effect of pregnancy planning and reproductive health education on the knowledge of fertile couples in the Dungingi Community Health Center (Puskesmas). The study employed a single-group pre-experimental design with a pretest and posttest, involving 30 fertile couples selected using a simple random sampling method. The instruments used in this study were a questionnaire and educational media in the form of a booklet. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the education, respondents' knowledge was categorized as poor (16.7%), sufficient (73.3%), and good (10%). After the education, the sufficient category decreased to 53.3%, the good category increased to 46.7%, and the poor category decreased to 0%. The average knowledge score also increased from 13.10 (SD=1.72) in the pretest to 15.30 (SD=1.44) in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of education in improving the knowledge of fertile couples. The conclusion of this study is that education about pregnancy planning and reproductive health is effective in improving the knowledge of fertile couples. This intervention should be implemented routinely, especially for young people and those with secondary education, using easy-to-understand media such as booklets. It is recommended for health workers to expand similar educational programs in primary care facilities to support healthy pregnancy preparedness and reduce the risk of unsafe pregnancies.

Abstract

Low hemoglobin levels in pregnant women are a common health problem and can increase the risk of pregnancy complications, preterm delivery, and maternal-infant mortality. This condition is mostly caused by iron deficiency. Although the government has implemented efforts to distribute Iron-Folic Acid tablets (TTD) to prevent anemia, some pregnant women have not adhered. Contributing factors include poor adherence to TTD consumption, and side effects experienced by some pregnant women. This indicates the need for administration of dietary alternatives. One such alternative is date fruit consumption, which contains iron and antioxidants that may help increase hemoglobin levels. This study aimed to determine the effect of date fruit consumption on hemoglobin levels among pregnant women in the work area of the Talaga community health center. The study employed a two-group pretest-posttest design, consisting of an intervention group and a control group. The results showed a significant difference in hemoglobin levels. The intervention group increased from 10.13 g/dL to 11.18 g/dL, while the control group increased from 10.27 g/dL to 10.29 g/dL. Statistical analysis revealed that the difference in hemoglobin levels in pregnant women who consumed dates was significant with a p-value < 0.05. In conclusion, seven days consumption of dates can serve as an effective nutritional supplement for preventing and managing anemia during pregnancy.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that 40% of maternal deaths in developing countries are related to chronic energy deficiency. The prevalence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women in Indonesia is 16.9%, a figure that has not yet reached the target of 10% set by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in the 2024 Ministry of Health Strategic Plan. One method of education to prevent CED is nutrition education which can be conducted face-to-face accompanied by the provision of booklets. This research analyzes the differences in knowledge and application of protein consumption among pregnant women before and after receiving nutrition education using booklets, carried out from March to April. This type of research uses a one group pretest-posttest approach before and after the intervention. The results of this study indicate that before being provided with nutrition education using a booklet, pregnant women had a lowest knowledge score of 47 and the highest score of 80, with an average score of 66.74, and the majority of mothers had an inappropriate protein consumption application. After being provided with nutrition education using a booklet, pregnant women had a lowest knowledge score of 60 and the highest score of 93, with an average score of 76.62, and the majority of mothers had an appropriate protein consumption application. The Wilcoxon test results showed a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a difference in knowledge and application of protein consumption among pregnant women before and after nutrition education was provided using booklet media. The researcher hopes that this study can be beneficial for the development of knowledge, pregnant women, healthcare services, and the community.

Abstract

Breast milk is a complete and essential source of nutrition for infants and is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be provided exclusively for the first six months of life to support optimal growth and development. Despite these recommendations, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia remains low, contributing to an increased risk of illness and developmental issues among infants. This study aims to describe the maternal characteristics and level of knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 6–12 months at UPTD RSUD Gema Santi Nusa Penida. A descriptive quantitative design was employed using a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 43 mothers with infants aged 6–12 months who visited the hospital on May 2025. The sample size was determined using Slovin’s formula and selected through purposive sampling. Primary data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. The results showed that the majority of mothers were aged between 20–35 years, were multiparous, had a middle level of education, worked as laborers or private employees, and had working hours of >8 hours per day, with a fairly good level of knowledge. Most mothers demonstrated an adequate level of knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding, despite the relatively low level of practical implementation, and a limited understanding of lactation management. It is recommended that midwives enhance lactation counseling services and expand educational efforts concerning expressed breast milk. Additionally, mothers are encouraged to actively seek reliable information sources regarding breastfeeding.

Abstract

The majority of women will experience pain during the childbirth process as a result of uterine contractions, and each mother in labor will interpret pain differently from the same stimulus based on the pain threshold they feel during the birthing process. Severe labor pain that is not appropriately managed will interfere with the smoothness of the labor process, thus pain management techniques such as white noise and labor dance are required. The purpose of this study was to determine how well the combination of labor dance and white noise therapy worked in reducing the intensity of labor pain during the first active phase in the PONEK ward of Mangusada Regional Hospital. This study used a quantitative research approach, a quasi-experimental research design, a nonequivalent control group design, and an accidental sampling strategy involving 30 giving birth women during the first active phase. The participants were placed into two groups: the control and the intervention group. The Wilcoxon Signed Test was used to compare the outcomes of the pre-test and post-test, and the Mann Whitney U-Test was used to compare the control and the intervention group. There was a difference in pain intensity between mothers in the first active phase of labor in the control group after being given routine care and the intervention group after being given a combination of labor dance and white noise therapy with a p value = 0.016 < 0.05 so it can be concluded that the combination of labor dance and white noise therapy was effective in reducing labor pain intensity inthe first active phase in the PONEK ward of Mangusada Regional Hospital. It is intended that the combination of labor dance and white noise therapy would be prescribed as a complementary therapy and used to alleviate labor pain, allowing labor to proceed gently and smoothly.
